I’d give them 6 stars if I could. Everything was incredible — every detail was thoughtful and appreciated by us. Location was amazing with the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts right next door and the amazing downtown scene all around. Just a delightful stay for us. The owners really have hospitality figured and made our stay one we will hope to repeat soon.

The Kalamazoo House B & B was a fantastic place to stay. No complaints about the stay at all. The staff were attentive, accommodating and the house is just a lovely place. No details were left out, from chocolate chip cookies at night, to robes in the rooms, to the hot tasty coffee in the mornings. It made the trip to Kalamazoo a great experience. Would definitely stay here over any of the local hotels. We’ll be back!

Excellence. We stayed her while traveling for business and it was so comfortable. Garrett, the house manager was so attentive to detail from the morning breakfast to evening cookies. You felt like you were at home, yet being treated so special. The place was clean and close to downtown. Evening walks to the restaurants or brew pubs were perfect. Highly recommend.

We recently stayed at The Kalamazoo House for the sixth time this past weekend, and as always, we were extremely satisfied with our stay. Every time we visit Kalamazoo, we like to stay at our favorite B & B because we know we’re going to have a great room, terrific experience and enjoy all the amenities the Kalamazoo House has to offer from their comfortable (to die for) soft sheets to the sumptuous breakfasts. This time we had a a fireplace in our room which, given the cold weather, we kept on all night.
Nothing is cozier than having a fireplace on while you sleep. It’s quiet, yet warm enough to keep you snug and comfy while you enjoy the luxury of a wickedly comfortable bed. We enjoyed the parlor where we played games on our first night, then went upstairs to enjoy a movie (they have free movies to choose from) and of course, the famous chocolate chip cookies and a glass of ice cold milk made the movie watching much more enjoyable!
I highly recommend anyone who wants a nice weekend to get away, enjoy the sites and many restaurants (within walking distance) to go to Kalamazoo and stay at this marvelous bed and breakfast, The Kalamazoo House. Trust me when I tell you it’s the most enjoyable pampering you can get for yourself and your significant other! They now offer a package that includes a couples’ massage. We indulged in that too, and it was like heaven on earth! We plan on going back to the Kalamazoo House in June for the Bronson Art Fair, which is literally a half block away from the B & B. Just park your car once, and walk all over! Also, if you’re an art buff, the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts is right next door! What a great place to fill up your «culture» slate while enjoying a great urban experience. Thanks Stephanie and Steve for taking the reigns from Laurel and Terry and keeping our favorite B & B at the top of our «to do» list! We’ll be back! (Keep that fresh fruit French toast in mind for future breakfast offerings!)

My good fortune that the Radisson was overbooked for a conference I was attending. The Kalamazoo House turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Will return again. The Inn Keeper is the best!

We had such a lovely weekend here. I surprised my hubby with the Warm Hearts, Hot Glass package. The glass blowing workshop was a blast and we spent the rest of the weekend crawling brewpubs and seeing a show at the State.
The room was beautiful and really comfortable. The location is perfect.

My boyfriend and I recently spent 5 nights at the Kalamazoo House Bed and Breakfast while we were looking for housing before I start attending the new medical school in the fall. We had such a great time at this lovely B&B. Laurel & Terry are the nicest people ever; sociable and accommodating. They know the area well and can offer good tips on what to see/​eat/​drink during your time in Kalamazoo. The breakfasts were to die for and were very filling; complete with fruit, homemade bread, juice, and the main course. I was really impressed with all of the different options for breakfast; we stayed almost a week and we never had the same thing twice. They even served yummy cookies and milk every evening. The building, rooms, and garden are beautiful and the location is very central. They have a wide selection of DVDs to choose from for when you get tired of walking around all day and they always have coffee, tea, sodas, and water available downstairs. The collection of menus of local restaurants was a nice touch as well. We stayed in Room #3, the Fireplace King, and we really enjoyed it. The linens and robes were very comfy and the provided lotion, body wash, and hair dryer were nice. Free wifi too.
The only tiny negatives were: if you happened to lie on the crack between the two twin beds it wasn’t that comfortable, the faucets in the sink and shower were creaky, the water pressure in the shower wasn’t ideal, and it took me a while to figure out how to turn it on to the right temperature.
My family will be staying here in September when they visit for the white coat ceremony, this B&B is highly recommended!

My new husband and I absolutely loved our stay at Kalamazoo House. The rooms were clean and comfortable, the breakfast selections were vast and all delicious, and the fresh-​baked cookies and milk every night were an icing on the cake. Laurel and Terry were incredibly friendly and accommodating, and full of lovely suggestions for how the locals enjoy Kalamazoo and the surrounding area. If you’re looking for some relaxation and pampering, this is your place.

This was our second stay, and we’ll come again. The house is interesting, very well maintained and well-​appointed, lush period décor and furnishings. Laurel and Terry are very focused on service and providing helpful information (including a highlighted downtown map of restaurants and attractions, a collection of restaurant menus). Delicious breakfast food including home-​baked breads, and cookies and milk in the evening.
Only small negative: the bed was lush and romantic, but not the most comfortable mattress (we’re picky, both of us having some back issues), and a bit small (we were in one of the «queen» rooms, but the bed seemed noticeably narrower than our queen at home — unless maybe it felt that way because it’s one of those pillowtops where you can’t like near the edge because you feel like you’re falling off?).

My husband and I were in Kalamazoo for a doctor’s visit, and decided to stay over so we wouldn’t have to drive home through a snowstorm, and boy howdy, we’re glad the Kalamazoo House had a room open. As with other guests, it’s spoiled us for other B&Bs.
From the warm cookies and cold milk bedtime snack to the breakfast the next morning, it was a delightful experience. Fluffy towels, sheets to die for, firm mattress. Walls thick enough to keep out noise. The rooms have DVD players, and the B&B has a collection of DVDs, but I’m assuming it’s OK to bring your own. There’s a collection of menus from local restaurants, though it’s OK to bring takeaway into the ‘living room’ opposite the breakfast area if you want to eat in. We’ll be back in April.

My husband and I stayed one night at the charming Kalamazoo House Bed & Breakfast as we had business at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, conveniently right next door. When we arrived, proprietors Laurel and Terry were personable, welcoming and gave us a tour and history of the house. Our room (#3) was beautifully appointed and the bed was very comfortable with fine linens. The en suite bathroom was brightly lit and included embroidered robes for our use. Fresh flowers were by the bedside. A carafe of water was nearby. We ordered our breakfast and time the day before from Terry’s varied menu. Breakfast was served promptly in a lovely dining room by the fireplace. The omelet and frittata were handsomely presented with homemade bread, delicious and filling.
The electric, remote controlled fireplace added a safe, cozy touch, especially since the weather was frigid. When our car wouldn’t start and we were about to call for road service, Terry volunteered to jump start it. That worked and saved us a lot of time.
The B&B is near The Park Club of Kalamazoo, where we dined as guests, and the Central City Tap House, among other attractions.
We would highly recommend the Kalamazoo House Bed & Breakfast for anyone travelling to or near Kalamazoo, MI.

My husband and I ended up here one weekend when we were doing a nostalgia tour of Kalamazoo — we were college sweethearts who met at WMU and later moved away from the area, but have a special place in our hearts for Kzoo.
We were there during the off season (some time in October) and didn’t call ahead for reservations and just figured we’d be able to get a room at one of the B&Bs in town, since we knew there were several.
Well, it turns out that the one we knew best was undergoing repairs and was otherwise deserted, and a second only had one room left, and you had to leave your room and go down a flight of stairs to get to a communal bathroom. So, nope on that one.
Lucky us, Kalamazoo House had a cancellation and fit us in. The room was tiny, and there’s a fair bit of traffic noise since it’s right downtown (including hearing a couple police or ambulance sirens in one night) but those are, literally, my only complaints.
Our host and hostess were WONDERFUL, the breakfast was tasty and filling, and the location is perfect if you want to explore downtown on foot. It’s almost literally next door to the Kalamazoo Institute of Art. The price for our tiny room seemed reasonable as well.
Highly recommended.

Stayed here over Thanksgiving 2013 for the holiday, my husband’s birthday and to check out all of the Kalamazoo breweries.
This place is amazing. A beautiful example of turn of the century opulence and architecture. Many features are true to the late 1800’s and others are modern. Very well maintained home.
Our proprietors Laurel and Terry were a wellspring of information and recommendations. They were friendly and accommodating and we felt like we were guests in their home vs customers. The cookies and milk and delicious breakfasts were really great. They also had evening (local) beer, wine and cheese and snacks about 530pm. We were waited on like royalty and truly felt pampered. They have cable, internet, dvd’s, books and magazines. We wanted for nothing. The linens and bathrobes were the highest quality and also available for sale to take home.
We stayed in room #9 in the third floor converted attic (if you don’t do stairs this room will be a HUGE challenge if not impossible) — Our king size bed was super comfy. All amenities were considered and provided. The bathroom was designed with a shorter person in mind but very functional (6’3″ and 5’8″ here). The thermostat was possessed by a heat devil and we had to regulate the room temp by keeping the window cracked. But the room itself was so beautiful it was a small issue in the overall experience.
Only things we would change — a public restroom on main floor near the dining areas hiking up all the stairs to our room for a lavatory kept things exciting. A coffee maker (maybe a single serve Keurig) in the room or in the common area on each floor — again hefting those stairs for a coffee was forcing me to decaffeinate.
Overall we loved the time we stayed here and would definitely consider staying again on the second floor, but will have to book way in advance. This is a B&B done right and it is in high demand.

Spent two nights here recently and really enjoyed the experience. Laurel and Terry are perfect hosts. They are knowledgable and willing to provide whatever you need — including a fantastic breakfast.
A couple of quibbles, mostly related to staying in an old house. As a tall person, the shower was a challenge. There are also the obligatory creaks and groans whenever anyone else is moving around the house. As a light sleeper, I was woken up a couple of times but nothing major.
Our bed was quite comfortable and the location is great — an easy walk to downtown.
Should we find ourselves in Kalamazoo again, we’ll definitely stay here.

This is an absolutely lovely B&B and I would highly recommend it to anyone. The house is beautiful and beautifully appointed. Our room was so nice and we were really very very comfortable.
Terry’s breakfast options made choosing just one really difficult — but don’t worry, you can’t go wrong. I had french toast one morning, and eggs the next and they were both fabulous.
The location is great — quiet at night, but close to downtown shops and restaurants. Terry was very helpful pointing out different places we could go for dinner and lunch. I booked our stay over the phone with Laurel and she was great about making sure we had the room we wanted and that we had all the details about checking in and arriving.
Great place, great location, FIVE STARS without a doubt!

Great place to stay and the owners are both so warm and friendly! It’s like coming home from work after a long day and chit chatting with friends. Must stay for those visiting kazoo.

When I think B&Bs, I tend to think of mismatched furniture, tea cosies, overcooked eggs, and overall discomfort. However, this was the PERFECT place to stay in Kalamazoo, and probably the best B&B experience I have ever had. I was working at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts (which is literally next door), so the location was ideal, but the B&B itself was absolutely wonderful.
Laurel was waiting for me at the door when I arrived (they ask your arrival time in advance to be sure to be there to greet you). She showed me around – the DVDs I could borrow, the fridge with sodas, the water cooler, glasses, coffee and teas, etc. She explained that I signed up for my desired breakfast time and food choice that evening, and let me know there would be a happy hour at 5. She was friendly and helpful without being overbearing. She showed me how to use the door code, then showed me up to my room – the Fireplace King Room #3. It was cozy but still upscale for what I think of as far as Bed and Breakfasts are concerned. It had every amenity I have come to expect from hotels – wireless (free), nicely appointed bathroom, nice linens, flatscreen tv, individual temperature controls. But it also had the charm of an old home with a fireplace, nice furniture, etc.
I spent the afternoon wandering around, but returned at 5 for the happy hour on the porch, which was delightful. Laurel is clearly a great gardener, and it was nice to enjoy it. The other guests there were friendly and apparently frequent visitors, but Laurel and Terry were fun to talk to. The house itself dates to the 1870s and was the home of a wealthy cigar manufacturer (apparently the largest of about 50 cigar producers in Kalamazoo alone!). It was fun to learn about the house, about their experience in running it as a B&B, and enjoying a glass of wine in the beautiful spring weather.
I went out for dinner that evening (a nice stroll over to the Bell’s Brewery café), and when I returned, there was a plate of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies with my name on it in the hallway. It was the perfect way to finish the evening while watching a DVD from the collection they have for guests to borrow.
Breakfast in the morning was wonderful. I was impressed that they had extensive options for almost every conceivable diet – gluten free, veggie friendly, low carb, etc, etc. I chose the omelette, which was delicious – and had a kick! But to start, you were served a nice little place of fresh fruit with a mini muffin, along with coffee or tea and juice. Honestly, it was one of the best breakfasts I’ve had in a long time – including fancy-​pants brunch places! It was lovely, and great since I was headed out on a really long road trip and wouldn’t be having real meals for a couple of days.
There were lots of spacious common spaces throughout the house, which made me wish I was going to be there a bit longer to curl up with a book and a cup of tea and enjoy the surroundings. If you are in the area, stay here. You will not regret it!
