Tante’s Restaurant

The view was by far the best part of dinner. I had the passion fruit ribs, tasty but no hint of passion fruit flavor in the bbq sauce.

There were ants on the table, and when we changed the table, the other table also had ants. The food was minor quality and at the end, my plate has been taken away while i was still eating my toast!
I will never return to this place!

Nice and friendly staff. Food was ok. I had the Hawaiian Luau Plate from the server’s recommendation. Some of the items were good, some ok. Nothing to really write home about.

Not very good food. Veg pasta and another Japanese fish appetizer both were tasteless. Location is great but the premises is not clean. Won’t go again.

Awesome place for breakfast. We went like 4 time while we were on the island. The local lady that played music in the morning was funny and nice. Mac Nut pancakes were my favorite!

Come in for breakfast and enjoy gorgeous ocean view with infinite refill of Kona coffee. My last visit here was several years ago, but both my husband and I remembered how good the breakfast was, so we came back. The décor is kind of warn out but has a old school charm, and the ocean view in the morning is still stunning.
I tried pork adobo fried rice with two sunny side up. The chef made my eggs exactly the way I wanted, which made me eat more than I thought I could manage!

Recommended by a local lady for their food, because this other place wasn’t open… the service is wonderful and the young waitresses really friendly and accommodating. I ordered the adobo fried rice for breakfast based on reviews and I have to say that I was sadly, sadly disappointed. My rice was too sticky, clumpy and just had no flavor. A few sad chunks (4 – 5), not nice bite sizes pieces were dumped/​stuck to my rice. I was eating too sticky rice, rather than pork adobo. Terrible. I didn’t eat it.
It’s open air and a nice place to sit with nice service, but my food was blah.

Great view, good old-​fashioned ambiance, fast service, reasonable prices. During a recent trip to Kona, we ate Tante’s for dinner and then breakfast the next morning. The quality of the ingredients seemed ok, but food preparation was lacking. The vegetables in my vegetable pasta were awkwardly cut and the sauce was oily. My friends liked their hamburgers. The next morning my pancakes were very good but my «cheese omelette» was a rubbery and flavorless. So, I guess it’s a matter of knowing what to order.

First off this is a Filipino family owned restaurant — asian is what they do best. If you are not familiar with asian foods then just go with the $ 5 breakfast if you are more adventurous try the char sui pork fried rice — OMG, it is so dee-​lish! a good size portion of rice plus 2 eggs your way. It is so filling you’ll have to have a late lunch or have a late breakfast and skip lunch altogether. The view is awesome and there is a cute Hawaiian woman who sings and plays the ukulele. She has lived here for a long time and has great stories of the local area. (she gets 6 stars)

We went here on the recommendation of a local lady outside the bowling alley. Funny yeah? She said they get good breakfast. Not sure if we’d take a recommendation again. Granted I just got pancakes, but they were alright. One of the bright spots is that it does serve locally caught inshore fish, such as opelu and menpachi.
For the Oahu locals, I would equate it to Kenny’s (
) on School Street.
We had to park on the free side lot and walkover because there is no parking along the waterfront. The service was good and you get a nice open air view of the pier, palace, and waterfront area.

Ate here twice. Both times for breakfast.
Much of the menu for breakfast has strong influence of Filipino cooking. Pork Adobo fried rice, longinisa, and more.
The first time here, I had the Ali’i Breakfast (King breakfast). Two eggs, Kalua pork, two pancakes, toast, choice of rice, and two choices of breakfast meats.
First off, it already comes with really good Kalua pork. Why does one need to have two more breakfast meats? Cause they are awesome, that’s why!
When given the pancakes, I was offered coconut syrup. Oh swoon, I’m in heaven. I love coconut syrup.
The fried rice was cooked perfectly with a bit of crispiness done to it. Win! Auntie knows how to fry rice.
The Portuguese sausage was also cooked with a bit of crisp to it. They also used a slightly higher quality sausage that was less fatty. Cheap Portuguese sausage will usually have larger chunks of white fat within it. They also used the spicier version of the sausage. Again, win!
The fried rice pork adobo was very good. Again, the rice crisped up some when frying. the pork was was very tender and falling apart. Hard to believe when it’s breakfast and hasn’t been stewing for hours already! What set off the dish was the whole peppercorns in the fried rice. yes whole peppercorns were used in the cooking, and left in it when fried up. They are slightly softer since stewed with the pork, and when bitten into have a great flavor added into the mix.
The coffee was pretty good too. Not weak at all.
After going there, we tried our hotel’s buffet. It was terrible, so on day 3 in Hawaii, we went back to Tante’s it was so good.

i admit it. their marketing works.

and i read the reviews of THIS tante’s on Unilocal (seems to be two of them) instead of the other one otherwise, i wouldn’t have gone. anyway, i figured a loco moco is something they can’t go wrong with … and it was okay. nothing special about it. egg was not prepared the way i requested, and the meat was fairly bland.
i would suggest going off the ali’i strip to somewhere better.

The service was good, considering we showed up with a party of 10 right before they were supposed to close between lunch and dinner. Unintentionally, of course. Oops.
Food was just okay, as were the drinks. I don’t think I’d return or recommend, but it’s fine if you just happen on to it. For us, we got in right around when all the restaurants were closing down for the mid-​day crawl, so it was essentially our only option.

Tante’s is awsome! We came here for breakfast a few days in a row and after our first time we were immediately remembered and so were our drink orders. This place is a hole in the wall right on the water but the food is great and the view is spectacular.
They have an older woman playing her little ukulele and singing every morning. She is super sweet and has a nice voice.
The food itself is Hawaiian standard and good. We tried a bunch of things on the menu. From pork fried rice and eggs, to eggs benedict. Everything we tried was delish, filling and reasonably priced.
The staff was great, always checking on you, very friendly just all around wonderful!

I went here because the shady hotel I was staying at gave me a free breakfast deal. I had some sort of egg thing that was supposed to resemble an omelette. I have no idea what it was, but I ate it and then regretted eating it. I’ll put it this way, I’m glad I didn’t have to pay for it
On the bright side the the view was good and the waitress was somewhat attentive!

5 stars for the price of $. This is a rarity, but Tantees brings the family feel with a beautiful ocean scene to back it up. The Filipino family owned restaurant is well known for their large sized breakfasts and $ 4 sangrias. I was tempted to get a sangria for breakfast, but I decided it was a little too early. I was tempted to get a breakfast special, but the Pineapple Pancakes caught my eye. I was actually ordering to go, and I ordered a Pineapple juice while I was waiting. The juice was freshly squeezed and tasted like I was in at the Dole Pineapple plantation.
About 15 minutes later, my pancakes arrived. I went up to the room to eat it fresh and hot. The pancake had walnuts, cinnamon, and pineapple chunks integrated into the pancake batter. The pancake was cooked evenly and tasted naturally good without butter or syrup. This has to be one of the best pancakes I have ever had that is not a chocolate pancake. Actually, a little bit of chocolate melted into the pineapple and batter would have been decadent!

This place has excellent value for the meal and some super awesome strong mai tai’s. I had the 5 course dinner and I think I paid 15 buckaroos and got calamari, soul, salad, steak with steamed veggies and dessert. I enjoyed this place the best because it seemed like an authentic mom and pop restaurant konastyle. I could see the ocean and feel the breeze. When your hungry and want a good drink and don’t want to break the bank but still get that down home hawaiian feel go to Tante’s.

The food was so gross. We got it as the breakfast for our stay at the hotel next door, so at least we didn’t have to pay, but wow was it yucky! Eggs were undercooked and the staff was so busy they didn’t even listen to our order long enough to get it right. She was actually walking away while we were still saying our order and she was basically doing the little wave saying «blah, blah, I get it». Of course the order was wrong. The whole thing was a gross disaster :(

Tante’s is a family owned restaurant that offers decent food and a live ukulele/​guitar player. Like I said, the food was mainly mediocre with a few good items like the loco moco, fried rice, and macadamia nut chicken. I’ll admit the macadamia nut chicken was probably the best thing on the menu, it just doesn’t carry enough weight to support the place. Don’t get the ox tail soup since it’s very garlicky and salty unless you’re into that sort of thing. Also, the drinks weren’t mixed well especially the lava flow.

We had lunch here because it looked decent and we were hungry. It had a nice view of the ocean from its open air seating restaurant.
I had the fried rice, and he had the loco moco.
The food was just ok but the prices were decent. Still I think I wished that we had better representation of local food dishes.
