Precise Carpentry

Josh is a great carpenter. He can come up with a solution for whatever project you have in mind.
First project: I bought a new house with a black chain link fence that spanned most of my ocean view. After discussing with Josh we came up with a plan to turn that chain link fence into a contemporary redwood and cable fence so the view wood be un-​obstructed. We were able to reuse the chain link fence’s posts so we didn’t need to pour any new concrete. Josh also rebuilt two gates in wanted to have replaced. As you can see from the pictures the results were beautiful.
Second: I wanted 2 Barn doors installed in my house to add more of the contemporary feel that matches my style. Josh custom made these barn door from scratch, and I love the way they turned out.
Third: Josh made new custom stair rails for us to give the stair a clean contemporary look.
We couldn’t be happier with the way everything turned out.
He is very professional, trustworthy, and backs his work with follow ups to assure quality.

not very friendly on the phone. said he was booked till december; no niceties and was quick to jump ahead of me and answer the question he thought i was asking. no apologies no thanks given. closure was «yep». pretty much end of story. i guess handyman now turned rennovator earns a good living and doesn’t have to play nice with others…

owner sent me a msg stating that i should have remembered that i called him at 8 pm before giving him a one star review… hmmm. i was looking for some kind of apology… like sorry i was tired i’m not normally like that sort of thing but it never happened and in fact appears that the owner doesn’t care to smooth this issue over but in fact wanted me to apologize! so therefore, the star rating remains at 1 and should be nonexistent at this point given his response.

I recently hired Josh to remodel a guest bathroom. I found him to be honest and hard working. I am happy with the outcome and look of our new bathroom. I had spent a bit of time trying to get someone reliable to do the work. Josh accepted the job and worked quickly and efficiently.
Also, I was also impressed with his willingness to follow up with a drip that developed under the sink. He stop by on the day he was leaving for vacation to tighten everything up.

Josh is amazing! I would highly recommend him to anyone on the island!

Josh is great! I had louver windows above all my bedroom door frames, which meant no privacy. We could hear everything. Josh removed the windows and put safety glass in. The sound difference is amazing. It has made a huge difference.
As he was packing up, he saw one of my doors that was broken. I had gotten so used to the door not working I had forgotten about it. He was like, «What’s up with your door?» He went out to his truck, came back, and BOOM… Fixed… in like 2 minutes.
He’s very honest and reasonable. I will definitely be calling him again for future projects.

Josh did a great job in helping us to cut up a cabinet for a dishwasher install. He took pride in his work and was a real problem solver. I thought Josh was «only» a carpenter, but he did more than the basic plumbing work for the dishwasher too. Overall communication was excellent!
Josh matched his price quote for the finished project. I can’t say if it was cheap — or expensive — as we contacted two other carpenters and neither followed up on our calls or e-​mails. Also, his quote include the plumbing work — which would have been an additional expense.
At the end of the day, we are happy with the outcome and will contact Josh should we need additional carpentry work.

Quality work and professional service! I contacted Josh to address drywood termite damage on a lanai post and beam, and to replace an old door to my water heater. We discussed options and Josh provided me with a timely and fair quote. These were relatively small projects and he was able to get to them in between his other jobs. A few weeks later, I informed Josh that the door was binding and he responded quickly. He even returned to help me install a door drip at the base to minimize future moisture related problems. Here’s a small gesture that impressed me — when I commented that the kit screws were probably not stainless steel, Josh went to his van and returned with stainless steel screws. He’ll be my go-​to guy for future work!

The thing about Josh that sets him apart from most others in his field is his «anything is possible» attitude. We had other contractors and carpenters come by to see if they could fix/​refurbish our old heavy custom wooden sliding doors/​windows and they all told us that it was beyond repair and that we needed to replace them completely with new ones. Josh was the only professional who was able to take on this task. I know that it was a bear to refurbish them but he put them all in good working order and life is so much better now! Not only is he a skilled carpenter, he is extremely skillful with electrical work. He replaced many of our old electrical outlets and at least a half dozen light fixtures. Communication and timeliness are key assets that Josh possesses. He always stays on point in keeping you informed and looped in. Not only is Josh straightforward, honest, ridiculously patient and knowledgeable, but he is also friendly and intelligent. Translation: A cool guy you won’t mind having around. We have a mid/​late 1950’s house and it needs work! We initially called Josh out to price out 12 new cabinet doors, and get his advise on removing two portions of hanging cupboards. Josh was up font and honest. After listening to our plans for the updating of cupboards and doors, he quoted us for each. Then he turned around and politely showed us where the best value of work would be (considering what we can and cannot do ourselves). He advised us to have the the two hanging cupboard pieces fixed first — the lesser cost of the two, but the one my husband and simply could not do. Josh worked diligently, arriving promptly and cleaned up the area before leaving.
My husband was very impressed with the workmanship, honestly, and professionalism of Josh, and asked for Josh to come and work on a few of our window sills which were showing bad wood rot. Josh came back, looked over the windows we were concerned about, then proceeded to thoroughly check all the window sills around the house. We appreciated his thoroughness because we would not want to have to keep calling Josh out for the same job, just a different location on our house. We initially thought he would need to cut out portions of the window sills, but as he worked on them, Josh found all the problems actually had to do with the paint and not so much with the wood. Again Josh arrived on time, worked diligently, and cleaned up well before leaving.
This second time through Josh also caught sight of a serious problem with our front porch and foundation. Although I had seen the issues, I really did not have a good grasp of the severity until Josh showed me. He was not drumming up more business as the work required is not in his field, but was simply his concerned for our house, and for us.
Precise Carpentry will always be our first call for help, assistance and guidance. Josh has proven to us that he cares more about our needs (financial and physical house) than profit. Don’t mistake me, he is fully worth the cost of his work and then some, but he will not gouge you nor will he trump up further work. Honesty, integrity, and professionalism all the way!

«Got a bang, see …»
Growing up in Hawaii, we’d always hear those car repair slogans but, I would extend it to Josh as an all-​around handyman who is as meticulous and skilled as a finish carpenter. He is reliable and honest. We had several house issues that we had put off because we hadn’t found the «right» person, until we checked Unilocal.
Josh came over to our home, surveyed the work and emailed us a quote that evening. We were impressed by his friendliness, professionalism and attention to detail. Several issues that he addressed were 1– our front entry door frame and threshold needed replacing due to weather and environmental damage, 2– replacement and installation of a new aluminum frame lanai screen door, 3– removal and replacement of outdoor door knobs and lock sets and 4– removal and replacement of floor wood slats in our kitchen that were damaged by a leaky ice maker. Josh was efficient and was able to find local or online replacements that matched the existing product. His quality workmanship shows that he really knows his trade.
Our home has been refreshed and renewed… we have Precise Carpentry to thank for that!

Josh was great! Very nice guy and The hindges on our gates rusted off and we needed them to get fixed ASAP. Hindges were replaced and Gates were fixed by end of day. We will definitely be using his services again!

Josh is an incredibly honest and hard working guy. He is very reliable and knows how to fix a lot of things, from carpentry to electrical. He rebuilt part of our deck which was a huge project for a one-​man operation but he did it beautifully. Simply amazing. I would highly recommend Josh to anyone who needs any home repair. He’s trustworthy and does an awesome job.

Josh & his kindness was my saving grace the other day. I’m renting an older wooden home & the sliding glass patio door had hardware that became loose and then lodged in the track, making the door unable to close (and therefor lock my house). Obviously this was a huge security issue for me. Even though his day was full, he graciously came over after hours to help fix the door & had it completed within an hour. He seems very knowledgeable in various areas of home maintenance and I will definitely be using him again for my next home need.

Very reliable, honest carpenter. He replaced 32 windows in our house as well as a full renovation of our kitchen. He has also refinished our decks fixing drainage and waterproofing issues not addressed by previous installer. We have not found a task that he was not able fix around our house and has a lot of electrical knowledge.
