Miyoshi Ramen

We saw this place randomly one day and decided to try and eat there for dinner last night. I was surprised. It was pretty good. The seating is small. But typical to most Kailua places. Service was great and friendly.
My husband and I got tan tan ramen. It had the perfect spice in it. Thick broth, 1 piece of char siu, and the fixings. We also got the combo with included 4 pieces of gyoza. We also tried a side dish of fried oysters. Gyoza wasn’t handmade but it was decent. Fried oysters was delicious though. Nice and crispy with a dipping sauce on the side. The ramen wasn’t too salty either. The bill for the both of us came out to $ 32. Not too bad considering the amount of food we got.
We’d definitely go back.

This is always my go to for ramen when I’m right in kailua. Always come back for more when I have a big appetite! Very polite servers.

Stopped by for lunch and ordered the shoyu ramen and a side of gyoza. The BF ordered the tan tan ramen with the mini chicken katsu curry. Service was friendly, attentive, and quick. Food was delicious comparable to goma tai!
UPDATE 12 Feb 2016 — Had dinner here on a Friday night. My date brought another chick along but I was okay with it… considering she was 9. Food was FAAAANTASTIC as usual.

We came here because Rai Rai was closed and were pleasantly surprised. The char siu in the char siu ramen was better at Rai Rai but the broth and the noodles were excellent!!! The char siu fried rice was off the hook!!! One of the best I ever had at a ramen place. Gyoza was nothing spectacular but you can’t really mess that up so all in all I would definitely go there again!

I went here on my last day in Kailua. Had Kimchi Ramen. Delicious. Loved it. A small quaint place with AC and good service. My friend had seafood ramen. Hit the spot when craving noodles.

Love all Miyoshi Ramen Dishes and their curry too. Always hot to serve and service is fast! Never a wait and always friendly. Calm relaxing and filling. My favorite ramen is Their Black Sesame Ramen and their Seafood Ramen.

I had the tan tan ramen which was good but not quite da bomb. The broth had a disconcerting orange sheen to it. The meat was tender. Service was friendly and prompt.

Not the best ramen. Tan Tan Ramen is tastes like Louisiana sauce. BTW don’t leave any tips because 15% gratuity is already included in the check.

This is an excellent choice for dinner in Kailua! We went on a horribly hot day — not the greatest kind of day for HOT ramen! — but they have AC which is a huge plus! My husband had the chicken fried noodles because it was too hot for him to get soup, but I couldn’t resist: I had the kimchi ramen.

I’ve been salivating over this stuff every day since we were there two weeks ago! I can’t get it out of my mind, it was SO GOOD! The server/​hostess told us they make the kimchi there, and it shows, the spice and flavor and quality were just incredible. I could have eaten an entire bowl piled high of just that heavenly kimchi! It should also be mentioned that we had gyoza and they were very good, too. The food was FAST but tasted fresh. Over all it was a great experience and if we’re ever in Kailua again we will be sure to visit!

Yummy ramen with good prices! So perfect. This location is by the CPK in Kailua. I would recommend to park in the structure next to Longs Drugs and walk, unless you find street parking.
When we went, it wasn’t crowded at all so our food came fast and service was fast. I ordered the kimchee ramen, with added egg and a side of gyoza which was a huge serving, but really good!

I’ve had better ramen, but this is definitely some of the better ramen I’ve had on the east side. I came during an off hour so there was no one in the restaurant. They have a small but reasonable amount of side dishes on the menu (the gyoza was pretty good) and they have Japanese soda as well. It didn’t take too long to get my food (about 10 – 15 minutes); during that time you can watch TV or look at some of the unique art they have in the restaurant. The broth was typical, but the noodles were better than expected. they were a little wider than your typical ramen noodles and were a bit more chewier. I would come back primarily for the noodles. If you are in Kailua and are on a budget, this isn’t a bad place to go.

One of my favorite Japanese noodle places to eat at! The location is pretty convenient as it is in the heart of Kailua town with lots of parking available around the complex. It’s a bit of a hole in the wall, but I never had any complaints about the food. It’s next to CPK so it can be overlooked.
I usually get either the Curry Udon with an extra egg (for some reason, I just love their egg!) or the chicken katsu curry. One of my favorite chicken katsu curries on the island! The servings are pretty generous. The gyoza and fried rice are also very delicious!
I had one incident where the the waitress had really no idea what we were saying and vice versa. She didn’t know what chicken katsu was… I only had her as a waitress once, and all the other times I’ve been here have been good as far as service goes. The food is served fast.

Great place to get ramen. Loved that the special came with gyoza. Really nice that the miso could be made slightly spicy so I could get the special. Quick service too. Just what we were looking for.

Very pleasantly surprised with this ramen. The noodles were chewy good. The black sesame broth was the bomb! I would’ve been happy with the mabo broth as well. The shoyu egg was perfect! Had no idea this place would be so good.

Miyoshi is a little ramen restaurant, although they serve non ramen items such as fried rice and fried noodles, located next to Whole Foods in Kailua. I went for dinner with my family and some friends and there was only one other couple in the restaurant. Since it’s in the Whole Foods shopping center, there is ample parking.
Food:
As someone who’s eaten many bowls of ramen at many ramen places on Oahu, I thought the ramen was excellent! I (and others in my party) ordered the tan tan with a side of cha siu, while other members of my party had the Miyoshi Ramen, the Fried Rice, and the chicken fried noodles. We also had gyoza. The tan tan broth was a standard tan tan broth — a little spicy, great sesame flavor. However, what really sets Miyoshi’s ramen apart is the soft boiled egg and cha siu. The egg was perfectly soft boiled, as the yolk was so creamy. Similarly, the cha siu was deliciously fatty and when the extra side of cha siu was added to the hot broth, it made the fat melt like butter. Delicious! I’ll quickly dispose of the fried rice, fried noodles, and gyoza by saying that they were good, but not memorable.
Price/​Value:
It’s about $ 10 for the tan tan ramen, $ 3.50 for a side of extra cha siu. The menu says that it’s a 4 piece side, but they gave us 5. There’s also a combo for a bowl of tan tan and 4 piece gyoza for $ 12. I recommend skipping the gyoza and getting the extra cha siu instead — definitely worth it! In essence, standard price of ramen for a standard size bowl of ramen.
Service:
A man who I believe was the owner served us. He was incredibly nice and attentive, although there was only one other table in the restaurant.
Ambiance:
It’s a tiny restaurant in a shopping center and looks as expected for a ramen shop, not fancy but clean (I didn’t use the restrooms).
As I said, I’ve eaten at many ramen places and I now rank Miyoshi among my favorites. If I’m in Kailua and craving ramen, this is where I’m going. 4 stars.

Chances upon this place on a late night after a long drive from nth shore. Really good ramen. Staff was very nice and simple. We got a tofu ramen. No frills place. But excellent food!

I recently came back to eat here the other day and was a bit disappointed. Let me start off by saying that I would give them 3.5 stars if I could. I used to be a huge fan of Miyoshi Ramen and would have rated it 4 stars before but coming back I noticed that they raised their prices and the ramen didn’t seem as tasty. The food was still good. It was just a bit of a let down to come back to somewhere that I have always thought of as being consistently good, and feeling that it didn’t live up to the expectation I had for it. I’ll still come back but probably less often. Personally I suggest getting their Miso broth and one of the ramen’s with the egg. I really like the way they cook their egg!

Since I grew up in Japan, I’m very picky when it comes to ramen. Despite some great reviews on Unilocal,I was so disappointed .
When we walked in there was 1 table occupied. The waitress wasn’t too bright, I know that’s mean and I’m sorry. Maybe she was having an off day. I ordered the special which was Tan Tan ramen with 4 piece gyoza. The waitress mumbled something about it not being available and I could order a 3 piece gyoza instead of four. I didn’t understand it and told her my friend and I were going to share the gyoza and wanted to order what was on the menu. She told me I couldn’t get the 4 piece, it had to be 3 even though the menu says 4 pieces. Not wanting to keep going around in circles, I asked if I could order the 6 piece gyoza and cancel the combo. I’d order ala carte instead. She mumbled something which I assumed was an ok. I didn’t get why I couldn’t get the special which was on the menu but I could get the 6 piece. Oh well.
Typically ramen is made fast but this was way too fast. When my meal hit the table about 5 minutes after placing our order, there were 4 pieces gyoza! I asked her about that and she told me she changed it because the 4 piece was cheaper than the 6 piece. Huh? There was no 4 piece gyoza option on the menu, it only came with the special. I didn’t understand. I asked her about it and she said it wasn’t the combo nor was it the special. To this day, I still don’t get it.
My ramen sucked. Can I say sucked? It was terrible. My chasui tasted as if it sat in the freezer ever since chasui was first discovered. It had some horrible freezer burn taste. My ramen was luke warm at best. The broth was alright, but not what I expected. It wasn’t flavorful. After a few bites, I gave up.
Good thing the waitress gave us 4 piece gyoza instead of 6 because our gyoza was cold and I mean refrigerator cold. Maybe they forgot to heat it up. It was bland. We ended up not eating it.
My friend didn’t finish his udon either. We were both disappointed. Maybe I went on a really bad day.
When we paid I asked the waitress about the gyoza being 3 piece instead of 4 when the menu offers 4 piece as it’s combo. She couldn’t articulate to me why it was only 3. Then I had a thought, I asked her if it was because of the weekend and she said it was and brought us a completely different menu that’s for the weekend… er um ok. I think you should’ve given us that menu from the start.
The nice thing about this place is the ambiance. It’s set up just like a ramen shop in Japan. Just didn’t like the ramen. Since I live on the other side of the island, I probably won’t be back here. I don’t know why I always have bad luck with these kinds of ramen places. It’s menu is just like ramen ya. which should’ve been my clue. Rod U? Where were you when I need ramen advice?

I like this place but I’ve had better. I got the kimchee ramen once and it was a whole lot of kimchee. You’d have to be a kimchee lover to enjoy this dish. So proceed with caution. The other day, I got the miso ramen and it was a little salty but still pretty good. But like I said, I’ve had better. The service brings this place down. The waitress/​hostess seems overwhelmed with taking care of an entire restaurant. Poor thing I understand this might suck, but would it kill her to crack a smile? Or perhaps be more personable? She didn’t say anything pleasant to us, she was just like, «Can I take your order now?» And that was it. Zippo. Nada.
Yep, I’ll definitely try other ramen places.

I enjoyed my lunch at this small, cozy, clean restaurant located next to Whole Foods in Kailua. There’s about eight small wooden tables, which were pretty much filled during the time we were there. There were quite a few Japanese tourists having lunch here, I guess because of their familiarity and comfort level with ramen. (There are also a lot of Japanese tourists sightseeing and shopping in Kailua.)
I had the shoyu ramen and mini chicken katsu curry rice combo ($ 10.95), which was artistically served in a large black ceramic bowl with a black ramen soup spoon. I loved the ramen, which was a little chewy and not overcooked. The broth was very tasty (no msg) and was served hot, however, I prefer it piping hot so that it doesn’t get cold by the time you’re finished. There were lots of bright green choi sum, large pieces of char siu, and a few kamaboko garnishing the ramen. The chicken katsu curry over rice was also very good, as the curry was very flavorful, and the chicken katsu had the right amount of panko crunch.
There is a reasonably-​priced daily special, such as ramen or some type of rice with three pieces of gyoza, ranging from $ 6.95 to $ 7.75, which seems to be a good buy. They also offer some chef specials which I would like to try the next time I’m there: black sesame ramen, shio ramen, unagi combo, shrimp tempura udon, shrimp tempura curry rice, and veggie croquette curry rice.
Our server was friendly and accommodating. Our orders promptly came within five to ten minutes after ordering.
Prices are reasonable for what you get. An added bonus was using the Unilocal check-​in for 10% off of the entire bill!
We parked in the Kailua Shopping Center parking lot, behind of Whole Foods and walked to the front towards Kailua Road. This might be a problem for those who might have difficulty walking, as the parking spaces are really close to the restaurant.
Overall, a nice place to have lunch if you’re in Kailua.
