History

Established in 1981.

Who Was Jack? Jack Clothier was one of the pioneers of sport diving in Hawaii. In the 70’s he was a NAUI Course Director, and one of the original owners of BoJack’s Dive Center on Oahu. He later moved to the Big Island with his wife, Tina, and they established Jack’s Diving Locker in 1981.

Around the same time, Jeff Leicher, one of Jack’s former students, was also planning a move from Oahu. Recently married, he and his wife Teri felt that the Big Island was the perfect place for scuba diving, and raising their young son Kawika.

Sadly, in March of 1982, Jack passed away after suffering an aneurysm while jogging. In August of 1989, Tina decided to start a new career with the American Cancer Society. She sold the rest of the business to Jeff & Teri and they moved into a new location at Coconut Grove Marketplace.

As time went on, Jack’s developed a reputation for having the friendliest dive crew around, and the business got busier and busier.

Meet the Business Owner

Jeff and Teri L.

Business Owner

Jeff started diving in 1961 at age 6 (after threatening to run away from home if his parents didn’t buy him a skin diving suit). He graduated from Stanford in 1976 and headed for Hawaii. He’s been blowing bubbles ever since and has logged over 11,050 dives. Jeff’s matchless patience and easygoing nature make him a perfect Instructor for Intros and others who want to surrender to the spell of our tranquil liquid paradise. Jeff will also capture your most treasured moments on video, edit and set it to enchanting music so that you can relive your diving experience again and again.

Originally from Oregon, Teri grew up in Oahu and did her first Intro dive with Jeff as her instructor. These two were surely meant to be, for it was Jeff’s last day on the job at that particular dive shop, and she was applying for a job to teach snorkeling. Teri may be the mother of two children, Kawika and Miles, but she is also mother to us all.
