This review is for the obon festival. ATMOSPHERE: The mission is oddly located at the end of a residential street. The grass lawn where the dance is held is tiny and intimate. There’s a small temple and hall where the bento foods are sold. FOOD: Shoyu chicken — The large, single bone-in, skin-on thigh was overcooked but tender and full of flavor. Comes with rice and canned corn. Sushi — The infamous Hawaii-style roll with vinegar rice, tuna, carrots, cucumber, and shiitake mushrooms. Very good. Manju — Not my favorite. The exterior wasn’t tasty nor flaky. The black bean filling was okay. TIP: Enter on West Hawaii St where there is a dirt parking lot in the back of the mission.
