Love the chicken hekka. It was yummy. Mark is located at kahului beach harbor look for the food truck. You must try his other food to like hamburger steak, chow funn, oyakadon, fried rice and I’d course dry tako. Go check him out.

Stopped at the shrimp truck next door for the mr and me. Had to find something for the kiddos w shrimp allergy. Was initially happy to find chicken hekka and willing to try based on the Unilocal reviews. Haven’t met a local food I have not loved until today. If I were to guess what goes in chicken hekka, I would guess leftover shoyu chicken, leftover inari (tofu), rice vermicelli noodles and random leftover veggies slow cooked in a slurry of water, shoyu, sugar and rice wine to attempt mask the leftover identity. Tasted super salty, super sweet and super old. Did not let my kids finish it.

The food truck scene is getting huge on Maui, and I wholeheartedly approve! The harbour is the epicenter of the action. It is handy to be able to catch a couple trucks for lunch and try multiples. Husband got the hekka chicken, with no idea what he was in for. Luckily, it worked out great. Sweet, salty chicken in a sauce with noodles and bamboo. Served with rice and, of course, mac salad. We have had a lot of mac salad this trip and thus did not measure up, skip it abd ask for another scoop of rice. Dump some rice in the chicken, thank me later.

The food here is pretty darn good! I must say the first time I went there was to redeem a fundraiser ticket. The chicken Hekka, although good, is a little sweet, but I’ve had other dishes there, including the roast pork plate — which weighed about 10 pounds! The food is home cooked and very affordable, especially for the size of the portions.

We went here on the recommendation of our zipline guide when we asked «where can we get some good local non-​touristy food?» He said, «Lau Hee Chicken Hekka … it’s hecka good.» Seriously. Delish. Hecka messy too.

Best Chicken Hekka on Maui. Prices are cheap.

This truck is a fixture on Kahului Beach Road. It’s also got some of the best plate lunches in town at a darned good price. The chicken hekka is the really good, almost as good as Mom’s. I’ve had the hamburger steak plate and couldn’t finish it all the serving was so big. The shoyu chicken is tasty too, though not the most appetizing to look at, but great taste. Definitely worth pulling over to pick up lunch at!

Hamburger steak — Two good-​sized homemade patties, smothered in brown gravy, topped with optional grilled onions, two scoops of rice and mac salad. Patties were soft, rice cooked perfect, gravy is definitely packaged which I don’t mind, and the mac salad is pretty good.
Chicken hekka — The first time I tried his hekka a few years back, it was too sweet for my taste. I tried it again and the flavor was more salty which I prefer.

Great food, great price and fast service = a definite return. OMG the roast pork looked so ono!
