History

Established in 1983.

Begun by an eccentric philosopher and self-taught naturalist who came to maui in 1977 to operate a charter sailing business. After the boat was destroyed in a major hurricane in 1980, he disappeared into the wilderness for a few years of self-study and exploration. After re-joining society, and knowing that he had become essentially unemployable, he decided to share his passion for the wild places and his knowledge of the workings of nature. Hike Maui is the result. Today all of our guides share that same passion for nature, fun and inspiration, and they’re filled with fascinating knowledge, which they love to share.
