The Square Grouper Tiki Bar and Castaways Marina has grown to become one of the most popular watering holes in the United States. It is the home of Alan Jackson’s, «Its’ Five O’Clock Somewhere» video with Jimmy Buffet, the Grand Slam/Castaways KDW, Bluewater Babes and Jupiter Billfish Fishing Tournaments and much more. The Square Grouper also hosts numerous fundraisers each year, benefitting local non-profit and charitable organizations. Live music can be heard four nights a week, from local bands and some of the music industry’s most famous artists.
A little piece of paradise, with wide-water views of the Jupiter Inlet and its famous lighthouse, this local landmark boasts the 19-ship Castaways Marina and stunning scenery.
History
Established in 2003.
In the summer of 2000 while vacationing, I got a call that the owners of Capt. Paul’s Landing (formally Capt. Cal’s Bait and Tackle) were looking to sell the property located at the end of Love Street on the Jupiter Inlet.
As soon as I got home, I went straight there. All I could see was trash, abandoned boats, dilapidated sheds and a thick forest of plants and trees. By the end of the day I had arranged the purchase of the property and we closed the deal on September 8, 2000. From that first day, people always suggested I put in a bar and restaurant. It became a labor of love. First I put in a deck and a new seawall, and left everything else pretty much the way I bought it. Then we cleaned up, added an old keg cooler, second hand chairs and televisions. We just put cash in a bucket for a beer and when the beer ran out we took the bucket and went and got another. I knew something was getting going when I stopped watching a game and realized there were nearly fifty people hanging out.

Business Owner
Look around the Square Grouper Tiki Bar on any Friday night and Jim Burg blends in with the crowd, relaxing in flip flops, enjoying the evening and taking in the scenery. His laid-back attitude has helped define the casual atmosphere that has made the Square Grouper both a local landmark and one of the nation’s most famous bars. Born in Tampa, Jim moved to Jupiter at just six weeks old. After graduating from Jupiter High, he attended the UF, where he graduated with a degree in Building Construction. Determined to be his own boss, he jumped into the real estate industry and after a long, successful career that included both building high-end custom homes and land and real estate development, Jim stumbled upon an opportunity to buy a piece of property on the Jupiter Inlet. It was just a neglected piece of land that housed a bait and tackle shop, but with his creative vision and a lot of hard work Jim transformed the property into what is now the Square Grouper Tiki Bar & Castaways Marina
