Massage by the Fire is nestled in a serene wooded area in the Cleveland National Forest just seven minutes outside of the historic town of Julian-​it is secluded and calm here and you feel the aliveness of nature all around you. We’re also located a mere twelve minute walking distance from the historic Pine Hills Lodge which is known for it’s romantic atmosphere and is a famous location for weddings.

This was my first experience getting a massage, so I was slightly nervous. Before you even show up, you fill out a questionnaire on the website so Becky knows what to expect, which I think is a great idea. We showed up and I was instantly calmed by Becky’s presence. She’s very kind and attentive, and was completely understanding of my trepidations with my first massage. Once she went to work, I was completely relaxed. Her techniques were exactly what I wanted and needed. If you are in the area, definitely stop by!

Becky was great! I had coordinated a weekend trip at The Cabin on Strawberry Hill as part of proposing to my girlfriend then reached out to Becky for a couples massage. She was prompt via email (which is a big plus in my book), professional, and extremely accommodating with my last minute and finicky requests. We accidentally arrived 15 minutes early but she was ready to go and got us taken care of.
This was my girlfriends first massage and she was very nervous going in. Becky was her masseuse and she came out happy and relaxed. A colleague of Becky’s did my massage and was equally wonderful. I am athletic and have a very tight neck and back. She did some serious digging (at my request), exposed me to some completely new techniques, and I left happy and limber. The entire experience, from ambiance to the actual massage, was great. I totally recommend Massage By the Fire!

I’ve had every type of massage from everyone from a spa trained masseuse (basically just lie there and nap for an hour while they trail their hands over your body) to hard core massage therapists (one actually gave me a nose bleed) and acupuncturists (my fear of needles somehow doesn’t extend to acupuncture).
I have to say this is the most amazing massage I’ve ever had! The woman used a couple techniques I’d never had before and a few of my favorites. I was incredibly relaxed even when she was doing the deep work. She took the time before we started to find out why I was there, not just what was physically bothering me but any stress I was carrying. I went in with lower back, neck, and shin pain as well as nervous/​anxious energy about an upcoming event I didn’t feel prepared for.
I walked in a ball of nerves and pain and left floating. I felt emotionally clearer and physically pain free.
I will definitely be back again. Gonna make this a regular monthly treat.

This place is wonderful. It is located in a very peaceful forest not too far from downtown Julian. The actual room where the massage takes place is cozy, clean and has a very nice fire place that I am sure is very enjoyable during the colder months. My Massage Therapist /​Holistic Adviser, Becky, was simply perfect. She made me feel very welcome and comfortable and spent time to find out what areas were bothering me and what type of massage I liked. I like deep tissue and I was happy to discover that Becky is not only very strong and but also highly skilled. My 90 minute massage pure heaven. The next time I visit Julian, I very much look forward to going back to Massage By the Fire.
