I absolutely adore this cabin!!! We made a reservation for the first annual Sip of Julian a little late in the game but Chuck accommodated our overnight need in spite of originally requiring a two night stay and boy did we get lucky. The cabin is not far from historic Julian which is a treasure and lovely place to visit, learn and dine. The drive to it is beautiful, through trees and around hills where you see other lovely residences and getaways. We saw at least eight deer just driving to and from the cabin! When you arrive, you call Chuck from the cabin phone and he comes to greet you and explain certain aspects of the cabin such as how to use the amazing 1920s stove, etc. Chuck is the best host I’ve ever encountered, he is very knowledgeable on the area having lived there for a long time and just a total sweetheart. The cabin is so beautiful, it sits on stilts nestled in amongst trees across the driveway from a giant metal water dish which attracts all manner of wildlife so you see everything from deer to wild turkeys coming to get a drink! Great photo opportunities. The construction of the cabin is a great mesh of old school with new design and functionality, the interior roof is a wonder to behold. There is plenty of room for two, very cozy and extremely romantic. I love the clawfoot tub in the bathroom! There is an enclosed patio where you can restrict insects and critters while you rock or enjoy a cup of coffee while taking in the beautiful surroundings. The hosts have thought of everything for your stay: CD player with lots of lovely mellow music to enjoy, binoculars to spot nature on the move, the coolest wood burning stove for warmth complete with wood and starter materials, stocked kitchen for breakfast, delicious welcome loaf of bread handmade by a local artisan, and best of all: quiet! It is utterly charming and a definite value for the beauty you enjoy. We were visited by «Magic» while we were there having coffee Sunday morning. My husband loved the stove so much he made himself breakfast with the ample fixings provided by our hosts and probably would have baked a cake if I’d have let him. You really don’t need to bring anything but yourself and be prepared: you are going to love it! Thanks Chuck, we will definitely be back, can’t wait to visit in winter, maybe for our anniversary Oct 31st :)

I save my 5 star reviews for very special places and this is one of them. My husband and i have stayed here 4 – 5 times in the past 15 years and each time has been the mental re-charge and re-boot I needed. We have also stayed once at their other cabin«Big Cat». Strawberry Hill comes with every creature comfort you need to relax. A super comfortable bed, well equipped kitchen, firewood, stereo system with 100+ cd’s, etc. Just bring yourself, your comfy jammies and some food to cook. The kitchen is appointed with all the basics to finish off your meals so all you need are the few things you want to make it special. You get some farm fresh eggs, fresh baked bread and juice in the fridge waiting for you. The cabin is located about a 10 minute ride from downtown Julian in the quiet Pine Hills area. You wake up surrounded by grazing deer and possibly wild turkeys. The silence and stars at night is what it is all about up here. This is not your traditional«Bed&Breakfast» where you live in one big house and dine with fellow travelers. This is all about solitude and privacy. The owners are special people. To us they feel like family even if we have not been up the mountain in a few years. Don’t balk at the price, it’s worth every penny.

Just returned from a weekend getaway with my wife here and we had a great time. The owners live on 2 acres and have 3 different cabins to choose from depending on how many people your traveling with. But these are so much more than cabins. They are really luxury units, professionally built, tastefully decorated, full of personal touches and completely private. After your personally checked in(complete with a hug), you will feel as though your home. The property is meticulously cared for with walking paths, stunning views and roaming deer each morning. We enjoyed having dinner in, with a nice fire and soothing background music. There is no TV nor Internet here and cell service is spotty, but I think that’s the point. This is the place to unplug from life and just learn to relax. We will be back.

We just returned from the Strawberry Hill Cabin, everything was prefect right from the start. Music playing when you enter the cabin, great selection of cd’s and books to enjoy, loaf of fresh local Julian bread for morning breakfast. The refrigerator is stocked with eggs, cream, butter, jam and there are fresh coffee beans with grinder! Perfect in every way. The kitchen is very well stocked if you care to cook(we did not) including spices and large assortment or utensils. This cabin is one of the most peaceful we have ever stayed in and the view is stupendous — it is a totally relaxing getaway, complete with deer and wild turkeys out the window. The town of Julian is about 10 minutes down the road and there are some good restaurants there. We visited the Candied Apple Bakery(which is where the bread came from that was waiting in the cabin) and had lunch there a few times and bought more bread. Chuck and Nan are warm and welcoming hosts and they have thought of every detail to make your experience magical. We viewed the other two cabins on the property and they are equally wonderful. We are already trying to figure out when we can return, you will not be disappointed if you give this cabin in the woods a visit.

First of all I have over 80 Unilocal reviews and would like to note that this will be my favorite review out of all the 85 reviews on Unilocal. My boy friend and I just got back yesterday from Julian and we stayed at the Strawberry Hill Cabin. I can honestly say I am not sure how to write this review because I had such a magical time and have so much to say!!! First of all I would like to start off by clearing all the negative remarks on this cabin(Which there are not many) To all of you that are offended that the owners wouldn’t let you stay because you are a smoker… I completely understand. Chuck and Nan(The owners) take great pride in their cabins which THEY built. I don’t blame them for wanting their cabins to be CLEAN, beautiful, and smelly free :) Chuck and Nan are very inspirational people and have done many inspirational things in their life time. If you ever decide to stay in their cabins take some time to get to know them! Second of all these cabins are ALL amazing. Chuck showed us all of the cabins and gave us a lot of awesome information about each and every one of them. Let me start off by saying, The artist loft is the biggest and best for 2 couples. This cabin has superb architecture and a beautiful view. This cabin has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and a bed in the loft. AMAZING! The big cat cabin is the second biggest and was built in the 1900’s. This cabin is best for a couple and the room is separate from the living room. This cabin has a wonderful stone fire place and great views of LOTS of deer and trees :) Last but not least The strawberry hill cabin(Where my boy friend and I stayed) is a small but extremely COZY cabin. This cabin is a studio but a very large studio. I HIGHLY recommend this to anyone who wants to be very close to their partner or is traveling alone. This cabin in my opinion has the best view and in my opinion is the most romantic! In the end no matter what cabin you stay in you will be VERYHAPPY! Like I said Chuck and Nan make sure you are very pleased and do everything they can to tell you about the town and all of the awesome places to stay. I looked at other bed in breakfast places but NONE were THIS amazing. I would choose these cabins over anywhere else in Julian by FAR! :) My boy friend and I will be going back in a few months because we had such an amazing time. Please take note and take care of the cabins if you stay in them! The owners take so much pride in their cabins and I can totally see why!!! xoxo
