Wampler and Sons, Inc.

Enjoyed meeting with the owner Charlie Wampler himself on the estimate. From start to finish they did a great job on my Master Bathroom remodel. Excellent company.

We had been looking for a home improvement contractor for about a year. The scope of our work was installation of a new front door assembly, including sidelights; shutter painting; replacement of window headers and door assembly trim with custom-​cut fypon, and carriage light installation. We wanted a firm which at least employed some of its people and had a good relationship with subcontractors. We found Wampler through a friend who also had the company install several doors for them. We were called upon by Charlie Wampler who is the patriarch-​owner of the Company. He was personable and pleasant. His door of choice is one of the better known, «upscale», door companies. Our first meeting went well. At our second meeting we made our selections for door and sidelights and signed our contract. (This is a difficult process because you work with a catalogue and it is tough to see your choices clearly in final form.) Mr. Wampler complied with all paper work requirements of Maryland. After we made our selections we received a call from Anna, the Company’s great «office person», who advised that the order person at the door manufacturer had misgivings about our selections in that she thought we should have polished nickel «highlights» by way of the sidelight window caming, (the framing for the art glass in the sidelights) the threshold and the front door handle/​lock. We had never encountered anything like this before — the manufacturer, in Philadelphia, voicing an opinion to be sure we were happy with our choices. This resulted in a third meeting with Mr. Wampler at which we discussed the manufacturer rep’s observations and asked to make changes. It was no problem to make the change as the door assembly had not gone into production. Installation was performed by Tony and his brother Ron (Tony is employed by Wampler but we were unsure about Ron) who worked on our home as if it was their own. The door assembly was installed at the highest level of workmanship and the fypon for the window headers and door assembly trim was hand cut to perfectly match the wood it replaced. The painters were led by Patrick, a personable and well-​educated craftsman. They did a great job and returned for «touch up» work. Although not employed by Wampler, much of Patrick’s work comes through the Company. Finally, there was Chuck, who had our carriage lights installed in no time. Although he is independent, he said a great deal of his work comes through Wampler & Sons. (As an aside, both Patrick and Chuck indicated that they were doing some restoration work in the city.) Charlie Wampler came by for a visit after all the work was done. He seemed as thrilled as we were with the work that was done and presented us with a small token of appreciation. In conclusion, as I told Charlie Wampler, his is not the cheapest of all the contractors we spoke with but the personality, attention to detail, workmanship and service all combined to make an experience we dreaded just wonderful. We would definitely recommend this firm.
