I’m only giving this one star, because it won’t let me go lower. I brought my husband here for lunch on his 40th birthday. I asked for cream cheese to be added to my roll. After it was brought out, the server disappeared on a smoke break. I realized that it was missing the cream cheese. The server apologized, and said that the sushi chef did it on purpose because he was mad at her. … the manager had stepped out and he didn’t want to remake it correctly. I asked for him to remake it, but how do I know if he wouldn’t spit in it at this point? After thinking about it, I asked if they were going to take it off the bill to make it right. Well, since the manager isn’t here, probably not, and they know from other experience with the manager the answer is probably not. The server was very apologetic, but clearly the chef hadn’t even started to remake it. They would only take it off if I don’t have him remake it correctly. So. … looks like I’ll be leaving without dinner.

Had dinner there this evening. I had a couple of sushi rolls, and they were probably the biggest sushi rolls I have ever had. The texture was a little off, and they did not taste very good. I have a pet peeve about sushi not being able to be eaten in one bite, and one of the rolls I had I had to cut in half to eat. The restaurant was kind of dirty, and the floor in the bar area was very very sticky. The beer was cold, so I gave him two stars instead of one.

Nobody greated my friend and I when we walked in. We tried to ask how long the wait was and the manager who was seating people would not stop to talk to us. After waiting only five minutes we were seated and the manager just dropped the menus and walked away before we got to the table and said nothing to us. Our waitress came over to us and asked what we wanted to drink and then I told her I would need a few minutes to decide what I wanted to eat so she walked off and never came back to the table. We sat there for 15 minutes and finally walked out. The worst customer service I have ever received!

Such a skeptic walking in due to previous reviews. However, once finally seated, service was great and sushi was very good! Pleasantly surprised :) rolls weren’t wrapped tight for the sushi snobs out there, but flavor was good, fish was prepared well and didn’t taste as though it has been refrozen a few times like some places. Missouri made me giggle as there was a ‘sauce’ for everything, not necessary in my world. Initially the miso soup was just broth with some sad swimming scallions and a couple bobbing pieces of tofu. But once the waitress Teresa saw my sour face on the soup, she dished me up a much better bowl! Now I’m happy and the drinks were also tastefully prepared. So if you find yourself in the heartland looking for some wayward fare, stop in and try the sushi:) and ask for Teresa she’ll take care of you.

We have eaten here several times it is always fast friendly and the food is good. There aren’t many sushi places around to eat but we do like this one and ichaban sushi across from Applebee’s.

I have eaten here several times. The food is very tasty but the service leaves something to be desired. There doesn’t seem to be a manager in the restaurant and the tables hadn’t been assigned to servers. People were being seated but no one came to take orders. Then a server would go flying by and say«has anyone helped you yet? I’ll be right back.» Our food came and we didn’t have plates, soy dishes, silverware, napkins or chop sticks. The waitress brought these items at various times during the meal. We got the soy dishes last. I like to eat my sushi roll with chopsticks for the full experience but the rolls weren’t wrapped tightly enough so when you tried to pick them up with the chopsticks they fell apart. This was disappointing. Lastly, the seats of the booths are cracked and the vinyl is peeling off. I had shorts on so it was very uncomfortable. But over all and strangely enough I recommend you try it. Maybe the service will be better.

Second best sushi EVER! I love the food I like the dragon rolls they are so good! Do NOT eat the green stuff(wasabi) if you can’t handle spicy. I ate some(cant do spicy) and my tung had a bump on it. The service is great and the waiters are nice. I like how you can get hibachi OR Sushi. My mom and I love to have sushi Friday and we always go to Wasab every single time. The food is kinda pricey but it is SUSHI! I wouldn’t take kids if the miss behave or don’t like Sushi. They are in the mall parking lot. And have their own separate restaurant and t is just like a regular restaurant.

First time ever being to this place and I loved it! I got the lunchbox combo with spicy crab roll and spicy Korean pork. The salad, miso soup, and fried rice was good pretty decent, but the spicy Korean pork was awesome! It had so much flavor and a perfect kick! The sushi rolls were also very tasty, best sushi I’ve had in this area by far. Get the lunchbox when you visit, it is filling and at a great price.

My family and I came here one night for the hibachi grill. They crammed us at a table with another family. Three of us ended up on the other side of the grill so we had a view of the chef’s back the whole time he was cooking. The food was not bad, same as any other hibachis I’ve ever been to. The chef started putting fried rice on my plate and I said I had asked for steamed. He just shrugged and continued on. Really? Thanks for caring dude. Our chef was not too entertaining. It looked like he was just hurrying to get the night over with. The food, prices, service… basically the whole experience was just ok.

I love this restaurant… I love the lunch box specials where you can choose different items. So delish. The salad dressing they use is really unique and tasty. Not a fan of miso soup though. It’s clean and the food is always good.

I went here while traveling on business. The sushi was excellent! The tiger roll and the red bull roll were our favorites. Service, menu options, quality was outstanding! Definitely coming back again!

I’ve gotta start by saying I didn’t expect to be that into Wasab. The mall location and odd name combined to give me a skeptical start. But I was lucky enough to try it during a work lunch and I’m so glad I did. I ordered the excellent box lunch(it’s cheap, too!) with delicious miso soup, rice, edamame(tasty and NOT salt-covered), spicy crab roll, and the best ginger dressing I’ve had anywhere for the salad. Most in my party opted for various sushi rolls and everything looked amazing. I’d probably order a larger roll(or a few to share) next time, but the box lunch was amazing. I was not let down at all by the service or atmosphere, either. Once inside, Wasab does not feel like a part of the mall at all.

I think Tod got a bad salad! I got the sashimi salad and just had my fingers crossed that it would be decent. OMG, it had so much sashimi that I had about 3 pieces with every bite. Delicious! My daughter and I both got this salad and we had to take some home it was so much! We LOVED it! You have to give it another try Tod! Maybe they saw your review and amp’d it up! We have tried several varieties of sushi here and have been pleased.

I’ve been working in Joplin sporadically for the last 2 months. First thing I did was to try and find a decent sushi place. I went to a total of 5 places and Wasabi is by far the best sushi in Joplin. It’s not amazing but the fish is fresh enough and portion sizes are respectable. Update…unfortunately have to down grade this place because of customer service. I order the sashimi deluxe almost every day and about half the wait staff aren’t that bright or motivated and about 50% of the time I have to remind them to give me my miso soup which is included with the meal. Very frustrating…

Pretty decent sushi. Pretty fresh. Price was a little more than I think it should have been compared to quality(about $ 2 – 3 per roll/entrée). Good service!

I am visiting Joplin on Business to support the Tornado disaster. I am from Memphis and Virginia Beach. I travel quite often and am very fond of Sushi. Just speaking from for their sushi menu I would have to say this place is pricey. The fish are not fresh, their Sashimi is thin sliced, and alot of their tuna sushi are the grounded kind not a cut of tuna. I was very disappointed. I had the 911, Fiesta, Sashimi regular with Spicy Tuna, and Super Tuna. The fiesta was horible(fried tortilla mixed with some nasty creamcheese with some kind of cooked fish), the 911 was horrible(crushed tuna on top of imitation crabmeat), Sashimi with Spicey Tuna(Sashimi was thin sliced and not fresh, I expect that from a land locked area but the thin sliced sashimi is not good busines)(The Spicy Tuna was decent), the Super Tuna was decent. They didnt provide enough ginger per order(like 1 or 3 slices), you should have at least 1 slice per piece of sushi. I do not eat wasabi but typically Sushi restaurants will give you more than enough wasabi and this place gave you a very tiny portion; you would think a place called Wasabi will give you alot of Wasabi. Service was super slow, the Teppenyaki Chef was sloppy and didn’t perform as good as the other chef they had there. Overall I think it was to expensive for mediocore food and slow wait times.

I’ve tried nearly everything on the menu after having worked here for a bit over six months(started about a month after the opening) and it is really very good, even if a lot of it isn’t very authentic. The owners/managers are Korean, and the chefs are of various Hispanic and Indonesian origins and they’ve all contributed to the menu, and in very good ways. You’ll find Korean BBQ ribs that are the best you can get in the fourstates and the guys in back have a great proclivity to mix jalapenos in with sushi. It’s usually a good experiment, and while it isn’t authentic it makes for awesome«fusion.» Try the Jalapeño Bomb or Firecracker(I gotta name that one lol) as an appetizer for good examples. The kitchens are respectably clean, though I personally think some of my former fellow servers should have washed their hands more often. In six months I never saw a single mouse or bug which still leaves me flabbergasted, as anyone who has worked in food service can attest to. Some servers will charge you gratuity when you eat at Hibachi, either in ignorance of how to change the computer’s auto settings for tables over six or because they need the money. Make sure you check your bill.(When a server works Hibachi he or she has to split 50% of all tips with the«House.» In the dining section you give up 30%. This is a common theme in sushi restaurants, even though it isn’t exactly DoL approved.) Steve or Caesar are the best Hibachi chefs in my opinion, though on rare occasions Sang, one of the owners, will down the Hibachi hat and the man can cook like no one’s business. If you go to Hibachi you’ll be dropping money, same with most of the entrees and a full meal of the sushi specialties. I’m not saying it’s over priced, because the quality is good, but if you don’t want to spend a whole lot go at lunch time because the portions are only marginally smaller and much cheaper. Especially during the week it’s fairly slow so you should get good service(Wasabi let go of all foodrunners and bussers so on busy nights the servers can get a bit over extended), and the lunch box specials and the lunch platters are really unbeatable in price and quality. One more thing, the fish is always fresh. I lived on sushi and noodles with white sauce while I worked there and never came close to getting tired of it. However, the redsnapper isn’t redsnapper it’s tilapia. Delicious, and one of my favorites, but sure as hell not redsnapper.(Though every place in Joplin does the same, honestly.) They have a terrific selection of saki that extends past the generic hot machine of it and it really is worth checking it out. They cost a little more, but some of their cold saki is really fabulous. However, the mixed drinks are shit. No way around that. No one mixing drinks ever measures so it’s all pretty slap dash, they use mixes, and I never had anyone order the Lemon Drop Martini who didn’t abhor it and send it back. Just order saki or a Kirin, unless girl drinks are all you can handle. In that case, go for the plum wine over the mixed drinks. Great restaurant. I’d never want to work there again(waitressing isn’t really my thing) but I still enjoy eating there. Just please, please, if you have a young kid? Don’t give them rice. Cleaning in a ten foot radius of your table after you eat really sucks. Seriously. Food Recomendations: Jalapeño Bomb Gyoza Firecracker Hibachi Noodles Seaweed Salad Yellowtail Roll Red Snapper(actually tilapia) BBQ Short Ribs Salmon Skin Hand Roll Tofu Teriyaki(ask them to make it extra crispy) Flying Eel Hog Eye the Hibachi Scallops Also, ask for furikaki on your white rice. Great stuff, and so addictive.

Wasabi Steakhouse and Sushi is located right at NorthPark Mall. For a place that sounds Japanese, it’s more of a fusion of various cuisines, not a terrible thing at all. I went with the lunch box special, which offered several great choices. The Spicy Crab Roll and the Gyoza, were my selections and these came with a salad, edemame and rice. You can also get fried rice instead for an upcharge. The roll was very good, although the Gyozy tasted a little doughy to me. Service was pretty good. Not a bad place to go for a quick lunch.
