Suzanne’s Natural Foods

The majority of the products that they sell you can find online as they’re pre-​packaged. All of their items are being sold at a heavy markup compared to grocery stores in bigger cities. The staff here is helpful and friendly, though, and they carry grandpas pine tar soap.

Great new store with all the necessary staples any health food store should have. Smoothies and salad bar are extra offerings. Pleasant staff and atmosphere.
A little pricey compared to other places, but glad they’re here.

We came here a couple times while visiting Joplin over Christmas. The salad bar when awesome! Very convenient and healthy, which was super important given the massive quantities of junk I had been consuming with my family. They had this turkey noodle soup which was delish. I also got a massage and that was wonderful. I think the best thing is the convenience: I get my massage, get a healthy, fast lunch and pick up some organic groceries before I go. Fantastic place!

This is a review of the café at Suzanne’s. They have a nice salad bar along with soup that’s great for a quick lunch. And since it’s part of a health food store, all the options are organic. I’ve also had the smoothies here when I’m in Joplin, and they’re awesome. Definitely a fan, especially because everyone who works there is super friendly too.

While the parking lot can be a bit tricky,
Suzanne’s has a nice variety of healthy foods and vitamins/​supplements. Though I am only familiar with the grocery aspect of the store and so I will only be commenting on that part. They have a small fresh produce area, canned and dry goods, frozen and refrigerated items, and a drink cooler. They also have a wide range of gluten-​free products such as frozen dinners, pizzas, breads, desserts, etc. One thing I find particularly surprising is their ice cream-​gelato-​sorbet selection! Not something you would expect at a health food store, but gladly embrace! Top-​notch stuff.
And though I am impressed by the products they offer, I am not impressed by the prices.
Too overpriced to be shopping there regularly, but I can say that I will be treating myself to a pint of (organic) mango passionfruit sorbet every once in a while… ;)

I’m not a big fan of organic foods but trying to be healthier. This place has the best smoothies. Better than any non organic smoothie I have had. They just need more choices.

Nice building. They carry some hard to find vegan/​vegetarian foods. They are a bit pricey though.

I’m sometimes shocked by how few places sell healthy foods in Joplin. The grocery stores are big-​box chains, and the restaurants offer more steak and fries than anything else. So going to Suzanne’s always feels a bit like going to an oasis in a desert.
Another reason to like Suzanne’s is that it’s one one of the only, if not *the only*, places in Joplin that sell healthy smoothies. It even has a drive-​through window just for ordering their smoothies.
The downsides for me, and why I give Suzanne’s only three stars, is that most of what’s sold here is corporate product, and most of that is very expensive. I tend to buy those products elsewhere, such as Target, where they’re cheaper. Locally grown products I buy from the farmers market.

I have relatives in Joplin, and every time I go I have to stop in Suzanne’s. I’m always looking for healthy yummy meals and the salad bar is to die for. Everything is so fresh and they do fresh squeezed juice, which is delicious. Also has many local options which is a huge plus. I like to grab some healthy snacks for the road too! Really great store with helpful employees.

When driving across the country, I was hoping for something more natural than shelves and shelves of plastic bottles of supplements. I was drawn in by the name and the fancy architecture.
I walked up and down each non-​supplement aisle, looking for something made locally. I finally found a salad made in house, so I bought that. The rest of the food seemed to come off the United Natural Foods truck from far away, but I was hoping to support the Joplin economy more directly.

I can’t say I love this store. The «new» Suzannes store is probably 12+ years old by now and it’s obviously well maintained, it is really pretty on the outside and the inside is well organized, but the prices are fairly standard and the same products can be found online for slightly less. If you’re a big believer in some sort of fad or limited diet and a heavy user of over the counter dietary supplements, vitamins, etc, you may like Suzannes. I personally think a lot of it is bull and prefer to shop at Fox Farm down the street for a more authentic feeling and wider selection of ethnic groceries. But it’s personal preference I guess. At Suzannes I find it interesting how the staff and owner talk a big talk about the amazing health and beauty benefits of their product lines but they all seem to be kind of wan and lethargic with thinning hair. That just strikes me as ironic.
