As a former Freeman employee, I hate to say this but the folks who answer the phone at Joplin urgent care are of absolutely no help and downright rude as soon as you tell them you are a self pay patient. I called to get a rough idea of the cost to be seen for an exam. I was told there was no way to tell because«it’s just up to the doctor what to charge.» I tried to give her more information and was cut off and told that they are just an extension of the ER and they can’t give any estimates for services. This is a terrible policy because there are some of us who don’t have insurance and we would like access to healthcare too. We had our baby at Freeman and they were great. The L&D staff was wonderful. We prepaid for the delivery expenses and the folks in Patient Accounts were very helpful as well. Almost 3 months before the due date, I knew the total cost for all expenses for a birth and 2-day hospital stay. A delivery and hospital stay can be estimated and prepaid at a flat rate but for some reason, urgent care can’t even give me a rough idea of how much it will be to listen to my heart, look in my ears, and give me an Rx for antibiotics.

The front desk/support staff have always been polite and helpful to me. I have seen two doctor’s who need a bit more people skills to say the least. Sometimes there is a long wait.

When you call to get a cash price on an exam, they tell you that it can be any fee the doctor determines. Excuse me? And if you need further tests they can not tell you the price until the test is done. What?
