Great outdoor store with great selection and excellent service. For the Illinois area they beat Cabelas and Bass Pro shops hands down.

Did you ever notice every weekend when you go to this Gander Mountain there is always someone outside the front door asking you for money handouts or to buy something. I went there last week in the same thing, I saw the little table parents with their kids going to ask me for money so you know what I did. I took a drive to bass pro bought everything I was going to buy a Gander Mountain. so save your money and the guilt trip, go to bass pro for your outdoor needs, and the money that you would’ve spent at the front door spend it at the bar at bass pro and have a few beers.

I really want to like this store but I can’t for a number of reasons heres why #1 I’m a man of size OK I know some of you are saying here’s another fatty crying about how life’s not fair ! But I’m not that huge ! I’ll find something that I like and they won’t have it in my size so I’d ask if they have more in stock and the answer is always nope it only comes in 2 sizes now I know I’m not the only large hunter in America so I pull out my phone and look at bass pro and sure enough they have it in 5 sizes #2 they need more people at the gun counter it’s a awful feeling to wait 45 minutes to look at a gun that’s way over priced and I’m not saying by a little I’m saying like mega sports over priced! I can see 5 or ten dollars over but not 75 to a hundred dollars. #3 I just get a Kmart kinda feeling when I walk through the doors everything has been man handle and half heartedly put back on the shelves and the place needs a good cleaning. I really hate spending my money out of town I like to keep it local it’s just better for everyone but I’m gonna have to make road trip and go to bass pro or Cabela’s

Love the store, hate how understaffed the gun counter is. Please, just tell the long on wishes and short on funds day dreamers not to take a number so you can help people who are really there to buy a firearm. Seriously. Real business is walking out the door as you’re explaining what a $ 15 forend is to a person who still won’t buy it. Please fix this… firearms are a huge draw for this business… geez, read the Unilocal reviews… every one is regarding negative experiences at your firearm counter. please act appropriately.

Had an awful experience at Gander Mountain Joliet. The firearm counter had a single employee working it while 10 customers stood unhelped. Finally when more employees came, I was attended to by a young woman that could not have been more robotic and less helpful about any questions I had. Very unhappy. I’m unlikely to go out of my way to spend money here again. Bass Pro in Bolingbrook is a better bet.

The day I wrote that review, I also emailed GM corporate and told them to read my Unilocal review. No less than 4 hours later I was contacted by «Mike» the General Manager at Gander Mountain in Joliet. To make a long story short, he wanted to make everything right and asked me to come in that evening so we can make a deal. I agreed. That evening, I arrived and Mike couldn’t have been nicer and more helpful if he tried. He’ a great guy and very sincere. He was even willing to personally drive out to Kenosha Wisconsin the next day at their other store if what I wanted was in stock there. It wasn’t. But, I did find another weapon at the store and Mike worked a deal on my trade and the gun I purchased. Again, if you ever have a problem, either ask for«Jake»…a sales guy whom was also helpful, or Mike himself. Because of Mike, Gander Mountain will remain my store of preference!

Customer service in firearms is terrible they send out sale flyers then don’t have the items in stock in fact the guy was dumb enough to say they haven’t had any for a while then tries to sell me something much more expensive nice big box trick! Better off going to gun show find a local dealer you can trust!

If I could give no stars, I would have. Bought a bark collar $ 50 that the associate needed me to pay for right away. Then as I was exiting the store I got my bag and receipt checked by a cashier. Then as I was exiting the store the sensor set the alarm off and once again she checked my bag and receipt. It just surprises me that an honest blue-collar government employee gets treated like a crook. If a real Thief comes through and happens to steal something, they won’t say a thing to him and let him run out the door. Congratulations Gander Mountain you just lost another honest paying customer!

In and out and found what I needed. Nice large store and good selection. Footwear was a far larger selection that I could of imagined. Nice for someone that is looking for a good rugged shoe and needs option on dress level(a comfortable durable show that can be worn outside the trails). The only thing I can recommend is to make sure someone offers the customer some assistance. I was looking for shoes, shirts, and ammunition and wasn’t asked for assistance once. During my search for ammo I spent a good 5 minutes trying to find it and must have had the«where in the world is this stuff» look on my face the whole time.

I’ve never been to a Gander Mountain before, but my nephew is an avid outdoorsman, so I stopped in for a gift card for his birthday. The store is clean and laid out well. The items seem to be reasonably priced and the staff is friendly. Not my bag, but it seems like a nice store.

Poor service would be putting it nicely. I walked up to the gun counter hoping to get some prices on a few firearms. Two guys were behind the counter. One was helping a customer while the other decided to hide in back without even asking if anyone else needed help. The one that hid stared at me and two other customers like we all had three heads and decided to walk away. Because of that, this and any other location for as long as I’m still breathing will never earn my business.

I am truly a fan of this store as I have a natural love for guns. Although during a recent visit to the store the range was unavailable which sucks. I did find a new gun that I’m totally in awe with. I’m also a fan of the smokers they have here. Looking forward to going back be careful I also saw a couple coyotes near by.

The amount of money firearms are marked up is ridiculous here! Looked at a remington 1911 r1 used for 699(which i picked up at bass pro in bolingbrook for 729 new) then I go look at the new firearms then their is the same gun new for 699! Why have a used gun the same price as the same one new? Ammo is extremely high as well. 40 dollars for 100 rounds of 9 mm? No thanks and bass pro has 100 rounds of 9 mm for 26 bucks. No wonder the store is always dead. The entire place is merchandised like a flea market. How hard is it to put like items together? This place is a joke.

I visited this store today and as usual, headed for the gun counter. They always have a nice selection, however their employee to customer ratio was lacking as usual. One thing I noticed that really bothered me was the fact that no gun safety rules were being followed. Yeah, I know, the guns are not loaded etc etc etc. But WAIT! The number 1 rule of gun safety: Treat all firearms as if they were loaded. Well, it’s a gun store so some playing with the guns is bound to happen, right? No problem, let’s not violate any other rules. Let’s see, Rule 2 — never point the firearm at anything you are not willing to destroy. Well, the employees and customers must have been wanting to destroy me because I was swept with barrels of firearms about 4 different times! Let me paint a picture for you. An employee picks up a firearm(handgun). points the barrel at himself, shows the customer the firearm is clear, holds the firearm sideways in both hands with one hand in front of the barrel, gives the firearm to the customer who sweeps me with the barrel and proceeds to hold the firearm with his hand in front of the barrel as well. I feel employees at the gun counter should be following firearm safety rules and encouraging customers to do the same thing. If I’m looking at a firearm, I always re-clear it after it is handed to me, and I always keep the firearm pointed in a safe direction. If someone walks by, I lower the barrel and never point the firearm at anyone, ever. There is a famous(recent) video where a off duty police officer is looking at a firearm to purchase at a gun store. The clerk gets the firearm out of the case and hands it over to the potential buyer. Neither person checks to clear the firearm. The buyer holds the firearm in both hands with one in front of the barrel and has the firearm pointing sideways(potentially sweeping other customers). Wanting to know how the trigger feels, he pulls the trigger and the firearm goes off and takes off most of the potential buyer’s index finger. Had gun safety rules been followed, this wouldn’t have happened. Same thing goes anywhere. It really bothers me when I see such gross and intentional violations of gun safety rules. I shared my concerns with the manager, Ken, who acted like I was wasting his time or I was some kind of anti-gun nut-job. I shared the above story about the off duty police officer(above) and he thought it was funny. There were no promises made to talk to employees, nor did he acknowledge it was a problem. Here’s the video for, Ken the manager, who thought it was a joke.

Adult Disneyland! All Gander Mountain stores get 5 Stars. My wife would give it 0 stars because I spend a fortune every time I go to. I love you Gander Mountain!!!

Went to this location last evening to shop for a new firearm. Although the selections are limited, the sales people are very knowledgable and respectful of their customers needs. I would highly recommend them for all of your Gun Hobby needs.

Gander Mountain is a step up from Eddie Bower, it’s an out door store for people who actually go outdoors. The prices are moderate not Walmart cheap but not so over priced you feel that you will be better off with out it. The store often has a high employee to customer ratio so help shouldn’t be to hard to find. While I have never found that special purchase at Gander Mountain, I do venture out every once in a while to see what they have to offer.
