I’m sad this is closed. We came for the view and were very pleased with our food, especially the Irish beef stew they did for St. Patrick’s Day.

Stopped in the other Friday night with my husband for the first time. I was surprised by how nice the restaurant is(and the beautiful views) — and by how cool and aloof the staff was. We crammed in at the bar and had drinks(all the tables in the bar area were full and we were told we could not sit at the large high-top counter between the bar and dining room, even though it was empty). Though we didn’t order off the menu, it looks like the choices are limited to standard pub fare. I found this a little disappointing for the upscale atmosphere and listed prices. We’ll probably stop in again for drinks, but I wouldn’t rush back to try the food.

Atop Johnstown’s Inclined Plane is the City View Bar & Grill. This is a really cool place to have a meal with friends or family. The view from City View is great and the food is good as well. On our trip we both had the Inclined Reuben and Pub Fries and found the meals pretty tasty. I think the atmosphere at City View is what makes this place so cool. You can make for a pretty cool date or night out by riding the inclined plane to the top and having a good meal at City View. It’s unique and because of this I give it 4 stars.

Stunning! Magnificent! Gorgeous and spectacular! On a beautiful fall day the view from here brings those words to mind.
It doesn’t get much better than sitting outside here. Wait a minute; how about if you add a cold craft beer and decent food. Maybe it can get better! I agree with other reviews. I ordered the Incline Reuben which is made with pastrami and grilled. It comes with fries and goes for $ 9.99. It was fine and probably over priced by a dollar. I’m paying for the view and that’s just fine because it’s worth it. Service was just OK. When the weather is good I’d visit here again in a heartbeat.

Decent food, one of the trendier bars in town, but the real attraction is the atmosphere, which is well worth it.

Great view, prompt and pleasant service. I ordered the soup and salad, which was passable. Escarole was tasty, salad greens very fresh. Not a large selection of items on the salad bar, but all were very fresh, and how often is. a very good blue cheese or grated Parmesan offered? The blue cheese was excellent.. I did I however have to ask that the tomatoes be replenished on the salad bar, and the very young waitress promptly brought out the plastic containers with cherry tomatoes, so I have to assume they were not washed first? Both the panini and the bruschetta were appreciated by my fellow diners. We had a relaxing and enjoyable time.

We visited the City View while visiting Johnstown from out of town. We’re so glad we chose to head downtown instead of settling for some chain place by the mall! The view is spectacular and the food was so delicious. We stuffed ourselves with the delicious wings and nachos and took a piece of carrot cake back to enjoy at the hotel. The service was simply outstanding and it was a great atmosphere. A good mix of some sports fans watching the Pens game, families, tourists, and people celebrating special occasions. Highly recommended!

Love the City View! Nice place to take out of town friends. Not to far to drive, and park at bottom and ride incline up adds to the experience. There isn’t a bad place to be seated for the view. As far as food one time it’s fantastic, the next it’s ok. Not sure why? Salads are alway great! Good beers on tap! Maybe that helps. We will keep going back! The 4 stars includes the view!!!

Since my last review, I have given City View another chance. Boy am I glad! The food was amazing– I wouldn’t have changed a thing! There have definitely been improvements as far as food quality goes. I had sun-dried tomato hummus(absolutely to die for), a small house salad, bruschetta chicken, and the most devine slice of carrot cake. City View is my new special occasion«place».

I have eaten here several times trying to give it a fair chance. The food is way over priced for what you get. The quality of the food is not worth the price tag. They have a good selection of beers, but they are also very pricey. The atmosphere is nice.

I used to really like this place before they changed everything. They have a smaller menu which usually implies better items, but unfortunately this is not the case. You can find many other places in town where you can get better food for a better price. The only saving grace is the atmosphere.

Food was gross. I had an open faced turkey sandwich that was all dark meat, not to mention kind of slimy and covered with fat and skin. I literally could not eat it, it turned my stomach. The«smashed potatoes» literally were just that– potatoes that were boiled and smashed… No salt, no pepper, nada. I also had ordered their«soup of the day», a cream of broccoli, which was good, but if it wasn’t campbells I’d be surprised. On a up note, the atmosphere and ambiance can’t be beat. And the drinks were great.

Visited City View bar & Grill a few Years ago, on our first visit to Johnstown, Pa. It on top of the Johnstown Incline. We ended up with an all you can eat soup & Salad Combo for aprox 9.00 each. It was pretty nice. there was plenty of room and great views of the city. Service was fair and prices were on par with other eateries.

Guys in Johnstown are lucked out. They still have a romantic spot to take a girl out on a date, or even, propose. This is a perfect romantic spot that can serve these guys in need. hahaha Usually, when you go to a place that has nice perks like gorgeous views and rides and stuff, the food could get yuck and prices could be way overpriced. That’s just the way it is, most of the time, but not here. The food was very good and also elegant. Their cocktail sauce was had a nice balance to it and it enhanced a lot of the seafood appetizers… I got a crab cake, which was good, but if I go there next time and get the same stuff I will get it with the cocktail sauce instead. Overall, next time I am in town, I hope I can come visit again.

I have to agree with Lane A. Great view, Good Service, Mediocre food. It’s certainly a place I’d recommend if you are in Johnstown. They were accomodating to a large party, and the place is endearing.

More than just someplace to go when you get to the top of the incline, I have never been dissapointed in any dining experience I’ve had here. Service may be a tad on the slow side, but if you expect that going in there really isn’t an issue… sip a drink and enjoy the view! Menu standouts have been the chicken wings, margarita lime chicken, and man… the strawberry shortcake is just devine so save some room.

Great view, good service, mediocre food. For western PA, this restaurant is probably over-priced, but you are paying for the view. I think City View isnt sure what it wants to be: a bar and grill, or more upscale restaurant. It has a number of $ 20 entrees, but doesnt do basic upscale things like bringing bread to the table. It also provides butter and sour cream in pre-packaged containers. If you go, I suggest sticking with more pub grub type of fare.

The City View Bar & Grill is at the top of Johnstown’s historic Inclined Plane.(The World’s steepest vehicular Inclined Plane). Outstanding menu selection, like all Midwestern, grain fed cuts of beef, Osso Bucco, coconut Thai mussels, California wraps, Maryland crab cakes, fisherman’s stew, they have covered all of our favorite cuisines. The menu is selective, but large enough to make it hard to decide. They have some Johnstown favorites as your side selections, like homemade potato pancakes, Halushki(not to be confused with Halupki’s) and perogies! The french fries are in house cut. View’s are as spectacular as the food is and the service is friendly and flows smoothly!
