i’ve driven by here a million times and never stopped in, mostly because they aren’t open for dinner. i saw that they were open for breakfast so i decided to give it a shot. pretty basic menu for both breakfast and lunch, but i gotta say, the pancakes here were great! really good flavor, probably in my top 5 pancakes. their home fries on the other hand were no good, they just dumped a pile of grated potatoes on the griddle and cooked them without seasoning. i decided to return and try their chilli dog and fries. the chilli on the dog was great but the dog itself wasn’t anything special, but for $ 2.90 for a chilli cheese dog, i feel like i got what i paid for. the fries were good too. the place has that worn in feel but it’s still clean. i love the tin ceiling and walls. i never see anyone else in there but i do hope that business picks up for these guys. i would definitely go back next time i’m in the mood for a chilli dog.

If you want a good chili dog, this is the place to go. Not fancy. Just tasty.

I stopped in to try them after mailing my Christmas cards at the JC post office. I never would have gone into this place without the positive reviews on this and other sites; the place looks like a dive from the outside. I ordered two chili cheese dogs to go, which set me back $ 5.40. They were pretty tasty. The chili was spicy without being hot, and the dogs themselves, while not exciting, were just fine — especially for the price. I wouldn’t make a special trip, but if I’m in downtown JC at lunch time, I’d stop in again.

Great local diner, the outside intrigued me the first time I passed by,(gotta love a hot dog wearing a cowboy hat) with a sign advertising their classic ‘chili dogs’. The next time I was in the area, I made sure I took a trip inside. It was empty at the time, late afternoon, but I was greeted by the owner, who took my order. I got the chili cheese dog, which came with a grilled dog, cheese, mustard, onions(the kicker), and classic beanless chili. On the side I got a coke and fries, all for around 6 – 7 bucks(can’t beat that). The dog was classic, served on a fresh bun, excellent chili, not too much where it would be too sloopy to eat without a fork/spoon but not too little. The onion takes it to another level though, giving it that extra crunch and flavor. Really great hot dog, got to talk to the owner, ended up staying for almost an hour, chatting with him and some other patrons who walked in. Great ambiance, feels like going back in time. Will definitely stop by for breakfast or lunch next time I am in the area. Try it, you won’t be disappointed.

After spending the last 4 days eating hospital food while waiting for my new born son and wife to be released from the hospital, I decided to take alittle walk to Tony’s Texas Reds. I’ve been wanting to stop here for some time now but parking around this place is kind of difficult. Needless to say I’m happy that I made the decision to go. From the outside Tony’s looks like it needs some updating but that is the charm of this dinner style lunch spot noted for its chili dogs. Inside I have to it was alot cleaner than I thought. Lunch today was pretty straight forward, a Coke and 2 hot dogs with chili, mustard and raw onions. The onions were nice and fresh. The rolls were also fresh. The chili sauce was excellent, slightly sweet, just ground meat and gravy no beans or filler, just the the way hot dog chili should be. The hot dog itself was tasty and firm not soft like some dogs get. I would however suggest keeping them on the grill alittle longer as mine were warm dogs not hot dogs.

Tony’s Texas Hots is located across from the JC Post Office on Main Street near Wilson Hospital. It’s a tiny diner with no ambiance to speak of… some small tables in the back and a long counter in the front with 8 – 10 stools. I went in to satisfy an odd craving I had for chili dogs and Tony’s thankfully provided exactly what I was looking for: good hot dogs with a smear of mustard, chopped raw onion, and topped with chili. At $ 2.45 each, these aren’t breaking the bank, either. The extremely phallic hot-dog-with-cowboy-hat logo on the sign out front is also pretty hilarious if you’re as juvenile as I am. Nothing amazing, but I’d stop in again for a «Texas Hot» or two every now and again.
