Good, simply tasty fare at below — average prices, served in a historic diner with excellent staff. Orders aren’t filled really fast, but quality takes time. I’d put them up against any diner in town.

a 2 star rating for these guys may be a little harsh, but i have my reasons. first i’ll start off with the good. this is a pretty solid spot for breakfast. pancakes had average texture but the taste was a little above average in my opinon. their french toast had a good flavor as well and their scrambled eggs were also very good. bacon was average. a friend of mine told me that they had great home fries. the first time i had them i thought they were good, but then the 2nd time i had them they were really good, so it varies i guess. as for their lunch, generic and mediocre. the fries are good, and the hot dogs they have here are good but the chili that they put on them didn’t have much flavor and didn’t even really seem to be a sauce, it was chopped up dried up seasoned ground beef. i had a burger here a year or so back and remember it being ok, but the burger i had here recently was way overdone and dried up. i got the bbq burger so luckily the fried onions added some moisture to it, but there was a hair in my take out box. when it comes to dessert, you can expect some ok pies but they don’t seem like they are made in house. i had a slice of lemon meringue a while back and it was good, and recently i had a slice of chocolate pie. i was expecting it to be chocolate pudding in a nice flaky pie crust but it was chocolate mousse on a chocolate cookie crust. as for the service, the waitresses have always been nice, but not on top of clearing plates and refilling drinks. it’s not the most clean place but it’s also not incredibly dirty, i guess it just has a really worn in feel because it’s been around forever. the décor is really cool actually, probably some of the best around when it comes to vintage diners, but as much as i and others appreciate that stuff, they need to bring this place into the 21st century. they don’t accept credit cards and nothing really seems homemade, except for the breakfast. i really wanted to try an open face sandwich with gravy with mashed potatoes, which is classic diner fare, but when i was there on a saturday afternoon they said their steamer was off, so those items weren’t available. it says online that they are open until 7 on weeknights, so i stopped in yesterday around 5 and they were not open. when it comes down to it, yes, stop here for breakfast, but bring cash. anything other than that is a gamble. i really wonder how long a place like this will be around, but i guess the cheap prices cater to a broke clientele, which is not shocking given the area it’s in, but it’d be cool to see a little life breathed into this place with more homemade food.

The taste is good, especially price is very cheap. My first choice to have a casual diner.

I like this place. The food is good all of the time and the price is right. People are down-to-earth and very accommodating…
