Freshfields Village

This place is great! A great selection of stores and restaurants. They are expanding as well so I can’t wait to see what they add!

Just eh. Similar to our Market Commons in Myrtle Beach, but boring. Not even outdoor speakers playing music. Some expensive «look at the label im wearing» stores, but not many restaurants. The King Street Grille here is insect infested, dirty and terrible. The pizzeria is really good however.

Really cool place to shop, have coffee, catch a concert in the park… nightly events such as wine tastings and movie events are great!

The epicenter for retail and restaurant’s around the Kiawah area. Freshfields is a beautiful commercial development with tons to offer. Here you will find shopping, restaurants, boutiques and bistro’s and even groceries all in a beautiful and meticulously maintained area. It’s so relaxing and everything you would expect from the Kiawah community. In the center of the «village» is a beautiful green where they host events year round. There is a weekly farmers market, music on the green on the weekends, movies on the green seasonally, as well as one off events that include food truck rodeo’s and family fun events. Now get off of your phone and get your butt out there!

Did I mention that they have free music on the green on weekends. At 6:00 pm, different type bans perform. There’s dancing, eating, and fun. The kids have the most fun. Go, bring food, chairs, drink, family. I know you will go back again and again.

Now this is a fun big are with shops around it. Lots to buy and see. but what makes this place the bomb, is when they hold there free concerts on the green. yes free! Some really great bands and when the weather is bad they have a giant tent. Just bring a chair or blanket, plus a cooler or buy something there. Great for kids and adults and visitors to the area. It is nice to enjoy a resort island for free! Just sayin. Check their calendar at

Why, oh why would anyone complain about Freshfields Village? It’s the perfect little shopping area with over the top cuteness. Two solid restaurants, neat little boutiques, a quaint courtyard, even a bookstore!
If you are complaining about this place, there’s little else that can make you happy.
Also don’t miss the old fashioned soda pops and sundaes in the deceivingly named «pharmacy». It’s a full service diner which also sells meds.
Yes, this place lacks the charm of Kings Street, it is not a century old, the walls don’t have paint peeling off but, so what? It is a commercial development that looks pretty, is well maintained and has enough things to do for a couple of hours. Just go!

Oh. My. Gonzagas! Get some cash from the bank, a cup of java from java java and a quiche, walk around a gorgeous lake, eat lunch AND dinner at La Tela, and do all your groceries at Harris Teeter! It’s such a quaint little area, very Hamptons-​like.

Typical retail accommodations for tourist! I found everything to be overpriced and sub-​par. The grocery store is basically a small Whole Foods, but not as nice. Also, I witnessed loud music, pimped out cars, and the usual adolescent fuss during the evening hours. I was nearly hit a couple of times while trying to cross the street. I guess the teens need something to do on the island while dad is playing golf? LOL

You have got to be kidding me. Sharp H is out of line. Let’s talk about what could have been. Whoever gained development rights to Freshfields Village could have made it a typical strip shopping center with a giant parking lot, standard run of the mill boxy architecture and standard national credit tenants. The tenants still would have paid great rent because of the clientele and the developer could have made a lot of money (perhaps more) with much lower up front capital investment.
Instead, Freshfields Village is a quaint, walkable village with careful detail paid to the little details. Each building/​store has a different building material, color, elevation with attention on shutters, brackets, texture, rooflines, etc. But they didn’t stop there– they could have just painted and put cute signs out, but they also commissioned adorably nostalgic murals on some of the sides of the buildings. The sidewalks integrate oyster shells and the landscaping is lush. The majority of tenants are local retailers/​restaurants with some national conveniences (banks).
Thank God that Piggly Wiggly stepped it up with Newton Farms, a fantastic gourmet grocery store at great prices. The offerings are totally different than the Pig down the street. The boutiques are super cute and have the typical «resort» wear you’d expect and jewelry but also a cute toy store, home décor, etc. It’s a perfect place to stroll around when the weather isn’t cooperating and you need another alternative. It was so nice, hubs and I found some extra reasons to go back.
Sure it is a «manufactured» town square, but in a place where there is no town center, sometimes it has to be created. This allows them a place where they can offer a weekly farmers market where you can get awesome bread, pies, burgers, local fish, etc. as well as movie nights and music on the green. Again, it could have just been parking lot and concrete plaza. I’ve worked around real estate for 16 years and I’ve seen examples of poor, mediocre and excellent new development across the world. This is in the top tier of casual, coastal development. Bravo.

Overpriced for what it is. Lots of either old people or just got the drivers license age kids trying to pass the time while on vacation. Just a dressed up Piggly Wiggly.

Freshfields Village makes life easier, plain and simple. Like Regina S. mentioned, gone are the days of driving miles to the nearest Piggly Wiggly for eggs or milk. Just past Rosebank Farms, at the entrance to Kiawah and Seabrook, lies a convenient answer to your last minute shopping needs. Freshfields has a gourmet grocery store (Newton Farms), coffee shops (Java Java and Starbucks), bookstore (Indigo), boutiques, and a handful of restaurants.
Here’s how I would describe the dining options in Freshfields:
La Tela– classic Italian food made by a father/​son team; moderately priced
Ladles– homeade soups, salads, and sandwiches; casual
Hege’s– French fare; upscale
King Street Grille– sports bar; casual
I like Freshfields so much more now that the bike path from Kiawah to Freshfields is complete. It’s so nice to be able to bike over for coffee and a morning of perusing the shops. Or, you can ride over and cool down with some ice cream from Marble Slab. I grew up working in/​visiting the mostly-​defunct Straw Market, so it took me awhile to warm up to the idea of Freshfields, but I can now say that it’s a welcome addition to the area.

Yeah, this makes going to Kiawah more convenient. Yeah, it’s a well-​laid out place. Yeah, it’s nice-​looking.
But guess what; it’s still just another way of fixing something that ain’t broke.
I understand that a lot of the people who come to Kiawah are not from South Carolina. They’re from places like Ohio, or Indiana, or Nebraska, or other places whose names are pronounced more through your nose than your mouth. I get that Kiawah is a place where rich people go because they hear about the golf courses from the golf tournaments they watch in between mergers and acquisitions meetings. So I understand at an intellectual level why this thing was built, just like I understand why Kiawah was developed in the first place, and why its development continues down the course it has followed for the past several years.
But at a more visceral (and more perceptive?) level, it just seems like a lot of corporate crap designed in a boardroom that was slapped down in the middle of a marsh because hell, why not wring a few more clams outta those suckers? The idea that town squares can be pre-​planned by some developer and presented as if, simply by existing, they have some charm or authenticity is repellent to me. What’s more, it fragments Kiawah as a vacation community — albeit itself the product of a comprehensive development plan — even more. Now whatever community events there are either exist behind the gates of Kiawah’s new resort, or fifteen miles away on another island entirely. Even if Kiawah was the invention of Kuwaiti financiers, at least it’s been around enough to pick up a little sense of permanence and community. What Freshfields shows is how easily decades of almost implausible accretion can be cast aside in exchange for the convenience of buying kettle cooked chips, seeing a Jimmy Buffet cover band and reading
by wireless in the same shopping center.

This small village is centrally located between the resort islands of Seabrook and Kiawah. There is something for everyone here, and all your basic shopping needs are taken care of. There is a candy store, ice cream shop, grocery store, liquor store, all sorts of small shopping venues, and outdoor store, various eateries, a pharmacy/​old school drug store, and much more. It has a nice quaint feel to it. We were jokingly comparing it to the town in the movie The Truman Show, and the traffic circle just outside confirms that even more. There is plenty of parking and access to the different shops. My only complaint is price. Everything was a tad on the high side, but seems about right for the area we were in. I was glad this was there, because the closest shopping/​grocery is about 10 miles outside the islands.

First time to either Kiawah or Seabrook. (We drove over to Kiawah and decided that Seabrook seemed a bit more laid back, less planned and Disney-​like.) So we were surprised when we checked in to see this very planned little village awaiting us. While I waited in line to check in, the family wandered the village. There’s a nice array of stores. A cute bookstore, a Marble Slab creamery, a candy store, some restaurants. A coffee joint, a surf shop. But by far, the crown jewel of the place is the grocery store. Prices are all over the place … some prices are the same as home, others much higher. But the meat, wow! The MEAT! We made a low country boil one night, enjoying the turkey sausage and the local shrimp and clams. The last night, we did a mixed grill and enjoyed the sirloin, the organic chicken and again the turkey sausage. If you like to cook, you’re in luck at Seabrook as you’ve got tons of good ingredients at your fingertips.

20 years ago when my family started going to Kiawah, forgetting milk was a big deal. After winding down Bohicket Road and then Betsy Kerrison Parkway to get to the island, we would be several miles from the Piggly Wiggly on Main Road. Going back to the store was an ordeal and certainly a bummer since it would take away beach and bike ride time.
That’s why Freshfields Village is a vacation saver. It was sad to see the marsh at the island’s entrance get covered with a parking lot but the shops at Freshfields, especially Newton Farms, the huge grocery store, are wonderful. Atlantic Partners, LLC, has truly created a village, minus residential space. There’s a Half Moon Outfitters, a pharmacy with a soda fountain, little art galleries and boutiques, a bank, a book store, restaurants, and a salon. It looks great and is very accessible. If only there were a bike path from the island to the village…
