Glen Onoko Falls

What a beautiful view! Unfortunately the trail is not marked well… which resulted in me getting lost for two hours. Otherwise I would have given 5 stars.
It’s definitely not a beginner hike. It’s steep and slippery at spots. I wore hiking shoes but wish I had boots on for more support. I think I spent more time looking at the ground than enjoying the scenery… I was worried about tripping. And with all the WARNING signs posted, I wanted to be careful!

A very fun hike. but definitely heed all of the reviews and warnings. It’s tough. Definitely not a beginner hike. Although there are people of all levels. If you can’t make it up. You could possibly hold up people on a very difficult and dangerous part of its busy. There is a lot of climbing and you definitely want to wear hiking shoes. I saw a lot of people without them. But that is the cause of many injuries on this hike. The death and injury warnings are serious. You can google the stories and see how easily it is to fall if you are not careful.
Be very careful on this hike but enjoy the experience. I took my time. and wore appropriate shoes. I found it challenging yet enjoyable. The waterfalls are extremely beautiful.
Take your time. Enjoy the scenery. And have a blast.

Oh man, what a fun hike! The waterfalls are great. The trail isn’t too bad, but their are some steep/​slippery/​muddy parts. The bad spots are not too large, so you can get past them. near the top the trail seems to disappear, but we followed some people that have been here before. There are a lot of people on the trail, so no need to worry about getting lost.
Best advise: go UP the falls route and come down the ‘switchback’. Going down the falls trail, is tough because you slip a lot. The switchback is pretty easy, just watch for all the rocks. Both trails are as about as steep as you can get (if water is chose this way, it is probably the most direct route). Just take your time and take in all the beauty this place has to offer.

One of the best waterfalls in PA.
1) This waterfalls has two tiers. First major tier is a cascading waterfalls, while the second tier was a big drop.
2) The trail is a dream for hikers. It was not too long, but somewhat of a push to get up.
3) It was an excellent falls. Will definitely come back.

If you ever make the hike, the signs and markers are not great. At the big, ominous sign on the orange trail that reminds hikers that a ton of people died on this hike, go left. There is a path to the right which also has orange markers (nope, not confusing at at all).
This is the switchback, the «easy» path to get down from the top of the mountain. The problem is that there are no waterfalls nor scenic views on the switchback. We saw quite a few people coming up this trail as we were coming down. They missed a lot.
If you keep the river on your left, you’ll be fine (sorta). It is a lot of scrambling and climbing with a lot of places to slip off and fall into the void if you’re not watching your footing or aren’t wearing good hiking boots. Leave your flip flops, cowboy boots and sneakers at home. I had decent boots and the rocks were still unforgiving.
This isn’t a walk like a lot of other hiking spots. You’re going to work, a lot, because everything here is going up. I don’t think there was any level hiking the whole day. I will say that it was completely worth it.

An amazing hike. They aren’t kidding when they say wear proper shoes… please listen to the posted warnings and if you are not in shape or used to hiking come back to Glen Onoko later. It is a beauty, but very treacherous. There was also a man playing music near the river the day we went and it was very beautiful.
There is much graffiti and some trash along the trail, but otherwise it is gorgeous. There is also a small cave across the river which was cute and fun and had a nice little view at the end. In all, I cannot wait to return here for another challenging hike!

This waterfall is well worth the effort! It is actually a series of gorgeous waterfalls. There was some ice when we went, and the path was treacherous in places. I would not count on being able to do this hike in the winter. Hiking boots are required. It took us about 2 hours to do the loop. I hope to come back in the summer!

Such a fun hike! I can see where it would be challenging for a non-​hiker but the beauty and nature is definitely worth it.

I have to say this would be a 4 – 5 star hike were it not for the HUGE amounts of litter and graffiti. The falls are amazing and make for a challenging hike. Wear hiking boots. Also, be careful bringing dogs. A lot of pupps I saw hiking up were not happy campers. It is an incredibly steep path.
The trail hiking condition is pretty well kept, but the beauty is interrupted by awful graffiti. There were so many places I wanted to take pictures but didn’t because the beautiful rocks were completely defiled.
Next time I go, I’m bringing a large trash bag or two and some gloves. If you know this hike I suggest you do the same. Its beautiful. I wish more of the people that hiked it had more respect.

Glen Onoko is right outside of the cute, historical Jim Thorpe which offers zip lining and white water rafting on top of the beautiful hike! It is a little challenging and requires some experience or athleticism. But that’s just how we like it. It has 3 HUGE falls that are stunning and magnificent. And unlike some places which are commercialized, this one does not charge for parking which is a plus! Because I hate when places put prices on nature. My boyfriend and I now have high standards when hiking and looking for waterfalls. We are both afraid that we will not be able to find one to live up to the beauty of Glen Onoko! This is a place we will return too. And everyone should go to!

1. Google maps took me somewhere weird, the maps app in iphone was more accurate.
2. takes around 3 hours to go up and down. sometimes its hard to figure out where the trail is, but follow the ORANGE arrows/​diamonds that are spraypainted on the tree
3. the peak is really not that eventful, the waterfalls on the way up are the main attraction.
4. enjoy your hike up because on the trail coming down you dont pass by the falls again.
5. some people brought bathing suits and were chilling under the falls.

This is a great hike and you get to see multiple waterfalls until you reach the big one at the top. Wear good hiking shoes. Coming down the mountain can be a lil tricky.

One of the best hikes I’ve been on in a while. Even getting to the trail is cool. You pass over a clanky wood bridge, go underneath some railroad bridges, probably stop to take photos next to the batman symbol (to which somebody lovingly added dangling cack and bawls in bright red spray paint).
There are a number of options up and down and new pathways will emerge and disappear depending on the water level — so it’s like a new hike every time you go. The waterfalls and views at the end are well worth the effort — though much of the fun is in the hike itself.
Like everybody else says — you need good tread on them shoes to do this hike right. If you take the more challenging (or stupid) routes, you will spend a fair amount of time on all fours, crab walking, and sliding down rock faces on your ass.
Empty your bowels before starting — not only are there no bathrooms, but there are few «hidden» places to relieve yourself. They can be reached, but be prepared to climb steep, get your hands dirty, and go through a ton of spider webs to reach them. On a positive note, it’s kind of fun peering through the brush down at the other hikers as you squat and take care of your business. «Ha suckers — I’m doing my duty just meters above you and you have no clue.»
Last note — there may be people pooping just meters above you and you will have no clue.

Great hike. Can be dangerous if it just rained. I don’t recommend it if it just rained. Several trail options going up the waterfall. Worth it when you get to the top. Lots of hikers there on a Saturday.

Glen Onoko is an awesome hike. I would suggest a good pair of shoes, being reasonably in shape, and doing this in dry weather. In the rain it would be downright slippery. The views are nice. Takes 2 – 3 hours to ascend and descend.

Glen Onoko is an awesome hike if you are prepared. Definitely do what the other reviewer suggested and wear sturdy hiking shoes/​boots. Poles can help too if you are unsure of your footing. Be especially careful if it has just rained, as the rocks can get slippery. Don’t forget your backpack with camera and extra water to drink.
As an added bonus, just before you cross over the bridge to the trailhead for the Glen Onoko Falls, on the right-​hand side there is an abandoned railroad tunnel that is fun to walk through. There is a parking lot on the right for this tunnel. Bring a flashlight if you want to walk through, preferably one per person, because it can be wet and slippery inside the tunnel. On the other side of the tunnel is the Lehigh River for some cool views! My kids love this and ask to walk through every time we are there.

It is a rugged hike so watch your step. It’s rather easy to slip and fall so wear good hiking shoes with ankle support. Glen Onoko Falls water is quite chilly but refreshing after a strenous hike. The trails are not clearly marked so remain vigilant during the trail.
It is a great hike with plenty of parking and beautiful views. I definitely recommend if you are in the Jim Thorpe area. Downtown Jim Thorpe is close so you can grab a beer after your hike.
