StarCity Moving

This is the worst moving company I’ve experienced (and I’ve moved 5 times). First, they delayed my move date by two days due to the trucks breaking down. The day of my move the truck broke down again and the men showed up with no tools (I had to run around to find tools for them) and then threw furniture in my neighbors yard which I had to pay for. Upon asking for a discount because of my experience I was told I could only get $ 50 off and the owner never even gave that back to me. Please stay away from these people– they are crooks and completely unprofessional.

WARNING! Stay away from this company. I got a phone call at the last second saying that their truck broke down and that they could not get anyone to come out to move my stuff. I took off of work so that i can move this 1x day and they did not show up and were not considerate at all of how stressful it is to move. Moving is very stressful and i paid good money to a moving company to alleviate some of this stress. Not with Starcity moving! I would look into another moving company. Pass on this one. they are not professional at all and are very happy to breach your contract with little to no compensation, etc.

WARNING: if you contract StarCity for your move, there is a very real chance they will breach contract, last minute, with no warning. They’ll even go as far as lying to you that movers are on they way, costing you valuable time to find competent movers.
Here’s my experience. I contacted StarCity two weeks before my move and signed a «binding legal agreement» stating all the details of the move, including time, price, what was to moved and to where. I ordered a certified check from my bank, made out to StarCity and everything was good to go.
A few days before the move, they call and ask if I’d consider changing my move in date from a Friday to a Saturday to a Sunday. I explained to them that that change will not work for me, as the building I was moving to only allows move ins on Monday — Friday between 9am and 5pm. On top of this, I had already paid a nonrefundable $ 200 deposit for reserving the service elevator in my building. Upon hearing this, StarCity assured me that all was fine and they’d see me on my original scheduled day. The evening before the move, I get a call to confirm the Friday morning move and to again pitch a switch to weekend. Again, I declined the weekend switch and they confirm for Friday morning.
Friday morning rolls around and when it’s an hour past the scheduled arrival time, I call the StarCity and am assured the truck is on the way. «Fifteen minutes,» is what I’m told, «don’t worry.» I call back after another hour and after laying into the guy on the phone for a bit I am told that, «the truck is broken down on the side of the highway.»
Intuition would tell you this is a lie, considering the two attempts to reschedule this moving slot. I talked to them some more and they assured me they would work with me to get another truck to me as soon as it had finished another job that was not too far from my location. They said the eta for the other truck would be no more than an hour and promised to call as soon as they had an update. I NEVER HEARD FROM THEM AGAIN.
This company offers a special combination of incompetence, dishonesty, and zero integrity. They are unethical dirt bags who will ruin your move and cost you money. What they do should be illegal. It is my only wish that their business fails and they go bankrupt. Fuck StarCity Moving.

This was the most dishonest and negligent moving company I’ve ever dealt with.
The last time I moved the moving company sent 4 guys who disassemble everything, wrapped all of it up, then reassembled everything at the new location.
First of all this company sent me two guys that had no experience moving ever. They revealed this to me after buying them some pizza during a break. They also arrived almost two hours late. I had to disassemble most of the furniture since they didn’t have a clue. I wound up physically moving 30 percent of the items myself or it would have taken more than the 6 hours it did to move a sparsely filled 1 bedroom. When I explained to management that these guys couldn’t handle the job, I was told by the manager «Kerry» that they would send two additional guys which they never did.
Here’s the damage that I’ve incurred during the move that I’ve noticed so far:
–They scratched up one of my $ 1400 speaker after repeated pleading that they would be careful
–They damaged numerous other pieces of furniture (chest, headboard, sofa, etc)
–They (Kerry) told me that you would replace my $ 90 mattress cover (since they didn’t wrap it) the next day and I never heard from them after the move.
–I think I incurred a total about $ 800 worth of damage to my stuff.
I have to reiterate that these guys had no idea what they were doing.
I had to help them move and direct them. They also came I’ll-equipped. I had to help them find a dolly at my building or they would have never finished.
This company is definitely not under the same management compared to when I hired them in 2010. Back then they took 2.5 hours to do all the work. They wrapped everything up. They dis-​assembled and re-​assembled all furniture and I was moving from a 3 story walk-​up.
The two guys they sent (definitely not movers) took 5 hours to and from an elevated buildings less than a mile apart.
In conclusion this entire process on 4÷29÷2016 was a «crap-​show».

This is the most unprofessional company I have ever worked with. Not only did they come 4 hours late, but they then left items behind. Then they caused unrepairable damages to every item they moved! When I confronted them they left without a word. This company also has NO customer service department and ignored court requests. See images for an example of their work, there are before pictures and after pictures of my furniture from the same day!

How about you actually address and do some customer service for once to those who were miss treated? You know, at least say I’m sorry, that way people who read that might think you’ve changes??? If you don’t reply I guess anyone who reads this will just assume that you run a scam and not a business.

I was waiting to post this review in order to give Star City Movers a chance to get in contact w/​me before or after my complaint to the BBB. This moving company is a nightmare. In February I booked them for a move from Jersey City to Manhattan. They weren’t my first choice, but had mixed reviews and after speaking with Cynthia (who was very nice) I decided to give them the move. They could’t get their insurance provider to properly fill in a COI even when provided with a template, walked through it by the building managers, and given days to supply it. Cynthia sent incorrect attachments multiple times and left out one of the managers entirely. The movers were 5 hours late to my place and then after packing my things, pretended to be in traffic and out of gas, finally they stopped answering my phone calls leaving me and my brother to sleep on a cold hard floor in our coats at the new apartment as well as having to purchase supplies for my cat. Not to mention we both had to miss another day of work. The movers called in the morning around 9 am saying it’s not their fault, that the dispatcher has a drinking problem and didn’t give them enough gas to make the trip. In the morning again I had to secure a COI with a new date, a task the folks in sales: Kerry & Cynthia could not handle. I ended up calling the insurance provider myself and walking them through it and got it emailed within 10 minutes. Of course the movers lost screws and incorrectly assembled the bed, they weren’t experienced and could hardly use tools. After this fiasco no one apologized. I asked to be contacted by a manager or owner multiple times. Kerry the sales manager assured me he’d forward my request, but of course no one got in touch. The BBB informed that they did not respond to their inquiries either. Cynthia started out as friendly, I will say perhaps it was not her fault, but that of her manager Kerry that they could not communicate properly with the insurance providers. Still, I should have been spoken to by an owner or manager as soon as things were messed up and definitely after! Worst experience ever! The building management companies are even shocked at the ordeal and have sworn to warn tenants. Moving is stressful enough as it is. DO NOT HIRE THESE MOVERS! Not worth it.

Don’t use these people! Nasty ass holes. Scheduled an initial move and never showed. Was originally set for 5pm. At 9 when we kept calling they finally cancelled. Then they tried to reschedule for the same time days later. Said that wasn’t acceptable and they got nasty and encouraged me to find someone else. Ass holes.

My move was completed last Monday. My bed is missing 4 screws, most of my furniture has sustained some damage, my daughters bicycle is damaged, and my TV is missing.
The tv was apparently delivered to Philadelphia (I have serious doubts if it is true). I was supposed to get the tv back today. For the last two hours we have been calling the person I was dealing with, but he is now refusing to take our calls. We’re now contemplating filing a police report and a complaint with the BBB.
Avoid this company like the plague.

PLEASE READ MY FULL REVIEW! I used Starcity moving company on 1÷27÷16 and it was a total DISASTER! Prior to using this company I read the reviews and they were horrible. When I spoke to Kerry he informed me that the reviews for the company didn’t matter and he gave me his word that I would not have any issues with their company. Well, the day came for me to move and that idiot KERRY informed me that the movers were going to get to me between 1−2pm. The movers never showed up until 7:30pm. I was told that they were stuck on the GW bridge which seems to be the lie that they tell everyone if you read all of the reviews written before mine. During the 6.5 hours that I was waiting no one bothered to contact me to say that the moving company would be delayed in their arrival. NOTHING. When I called I received excuse after excuse and Kerry pretended not to know me. When I finally got nasty on the phone with him he said he would call me back and he left the office and I didn’t hear from him after that. I finally got a hold of someone at 5:30pm and I spoke to Cynthia, who was very very very nice and she helped me with getting all of my things moved. Sha and 2 other young gentlemen showed up to my apartment and they moved all of my furniture and they were very courteous and professional. Please listen to me-​DO NOT do any type of business with Kerry or this moving company. He will promise you the world and after it is all said and done he will not help to fix the problem. Starcity moving company needs to get rid of this jerk because they are going to lose a lot of money by keeping him there. USE ANOTHER MOVING COMPANY if you need to. THEY ARE THE WORSE.

I’m not really sure why this company has such bad reviews, I used them last week and had a great experience! Adam and his crew were right on time and super friendly. they wrapped all my furniture and even a few valuable items that I was worried about. they were also very cautious of the things I said were fragile. they had me moved out of my old building and into my new place in ample timing. the guys were so professional and it definitely showed in their quickness and ability to maneuver the biggest dresser down the tiniest staircase. I will defiantly use these guys every time I move! ask for Adam!

Hi — this is my first Unilocal review. We needed some furniture moved from one home to another about 70 miles away.
We were given a quote on the phone with a follow up email.
The quote was significantly lower than other estimates.
There were no issues with the cost in the end as we paid what we were quoted.
I would be careful to be sure to give a good inventory of what is to be moved as well as give the number of steps and any other logistics involved on both ends of the move.
This was not a whole house move, but enough «sentimental» old furniture to be concerned.
I read the poor reviews and was concerned, however, determined it was worth taking a chance based on the price given.
The office followed up frequently, via phone and e-​mail and as a family we decided to take the risk.
The 3 movers arrived in the time window provided and took about an hour to pack and wrap the furniture.
A family member was on the other end of the move and all went well in the appropriate time allotted to get to the other home.
The movers were courteous to me and my family.

Do not… I repeat, do not use this moving company. The sales people in this office are by far the most unprofessional people I have ever encountered. This company was supposed to do a same day moving and showed up a day late. When I called the office they continued to lie about the time of arrival until I finally got ahold of KC the manager who finally told me the owner Lester, had requested that my shipment be done last, when that was not what we were agreed on. Some of my boxes are missing, my beautiful brand new rug never arrived, my chairs, my utensils and 90% of my goods were broken, my chairs did not come on the truck, and the owner hasn’t called me back. Boxes were on my truck that belong to someone else. The sad part of all of this is that many items dear to us are still missing. I will say that Kerry and Vanessa found a bag that had very important items and they held on to it until I drove back to and to get it. Also, most of my boxes are soaking wet… much of my clothing is very wet. This Lester person who owns the company is nowhere to be found… it is just an absolute disaster. I emailed the company this morning again, and I’m waiting to hear back. The way that Star City Movers handled my move was just awful.
They will lie, cheat you and ruin all your stuff. The owner did not allow my delivery to leave NJ until 3 pm and the guys arrived at 10 pm in DC, they didn’t leave my apartment building until 3 am… my couches are soaking wet with a disgusting stench !! They are just horrible!!! Run for your life!!! I want answer regarding my stuff.

This company damaged our property while moving a neighboring house and the employees told my father, a 74 year old man that they would come out with the insurance card for him. they then just up and left. I have reached out to the company and was told to e-​mail the owner and was promised he would be contacting me back. After two weeks I called back and was once again given the run around. I am now looking into pressing charges for hit and run of property as well as legally suing the company-​I only gave one star because I had too. Disgusting-​to take advantage of an old man like that-​I don’t know about you but I would not want to use a company like this!!!

They will break your stuff. The moving guys, they dont speak or read English.
They moved my Pediatric office stuff, and they broke my Babyscale costing $ 2000.
The owner was very non-​chalant about breaking my scale, he said he will refund $ 50.
This moving company was more costly to me due to the damage to my item.

This company is unprofessional, rude, and bullying to any consumers who are unfortunate enough to be tricked into using their «services». Steer clear and hire a more professional organization for a slim bit more money, it’s pretty much guaranteed you will be glad you stayed away from these clowns.

I was a little hesitant about this moving company based on the reviews I read on Unilocal,especially the fact that others said the movers did not come on time and that they damaged furniture. I did not have any problems at all, I was very pleased with the moving services. The movers arrived exactly on time to my apartment (they came at 3pm on the dot). After arriving, they wrapped all the bulky furniture and quickly moved everything into the truck. The unloading process was just as smooth.
I looked into other moving companies after reading the not so great reviews on Unilocal.Other companies charged almost double the prices as Star City. Thus, I am very pleased with the rate they charged me and the service I was provided. I would definitely use them again! I was a little concerned when 10 minutes before 3pm I had not heard from them. I called the foreman to get an update and he told me the movers were on their way — so i had nothing to be concerned about at all!

Can’t say enough about how awesome StarCity is:
1. When I first called, Kerry, one of their sales reps, explained the process clearly and thoroughly, and then was totally friendly and understanding as I called him back 10 times the following week to ask a million and one questions
2. They’ll let you change your inventory until the day before your move, and will adjust their binding quote accordingly
3. The movers they sent were efficient, thorough, and friendly
4. When we arrived at my new apartment, they took the time to carefully reconstruct ever article of furniture they’d moved, asked me if I wanted to rearrange the positioning, and didn’t leave until they’d double-​checked the inventory.
I’d definitely recommend StarCity.

The response by dean the manager to my review is a complete lie. We saw the damage done before our eyes. My husband even called the manager as it happened to see what could be done, which was nothing. And no there was no refund give n or even spoken about. Dean was so rude and uncouth he claimed they had nothing to do with it which is funny since he wasn’t even there. Dean stop lying. You spoke with my husband and you DID NOT OFFER A REFUND.

We were moving within New Jersey. They initially came over to review the items and provided me with the estimate. On the day of the move, they arrived on time and immediately started wrapping the furniture and glass with pads and plastic wrap. All the items were carefully packed and moved to the truck. At the destination — they were quick to unload and unpack. They put all the boxes in the right locations in the house. Furniture was disassembled and put back as it was and in designated area’s as requested. There was not even a single scratch on any of my furniture or walls. They gave extra attention to fragile items and were willing to go the extra mile. Communication was a plus during the whole process. I do recommend Starcity Moving for all your moving needs.
