We know you, weary PATH commuter.

We, too, are downtown Jersey City residents who were lured by the quick and convenient train to and from Manhattan, only to be tortured by push notifications: Estimated time of arrival = UNKNOWN.

Earlier and earlier we left for work, and on those too-​short mornings we had to set our priorities: straightening our hair, yes; herding dust bunnies, no. So the dance with local cleaning services began. One lost our house keys. Another showed up at the doorstep, filthy mops in hand. Our front doors revolved with different crews each week, even after the companies’ owners promised consistent teams, and communication with the staff was always a challenge.

There had to be a better maid service.

Hi, we’re Regina and Amelia, co-​founders of Maid in JC.

It was around July 4th, while taking the PATH into work ~ sweating, seatless, somewhere between Grove and 33rd Street ~ we were struck by Lady Liberty’s plea: «Give us your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.» We had cleaned our way through college to pay the rent, pumping housekeeping pros for their best tips and tricks. We could do it again, right? Only this time we’d operate a full-​time business built on amazing cleaning and superior customer service.

So give us your streaky shower doors, your microwave grime, your luxurious bath towels that smell more funky than fresh. We’ve traded our fashion careers and monthly train passes for shelves full of organic cleaning solutions and a fleet of seriously powerful vacuum cleaners.

As Maid In JC welcomes new clients, we must pay tribute to our inspiration: So long, Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. We’ve finally reached our destination!

AMAZED with the thoroughness of work, from communication to the end result of their cleaning. I was away for the weekend and came home to a, quite literally, sparkling clean apartment. It looked brand new. The Maid in JC team is professional, prompt, and extremely meticulous. I can’t wait for them to come back! As a neat freak myself, it’s hard to impress me when it comes to cleaning but I was in awe once I saw the final result.

The reviews are real. These ladies have figured out the perfect solution for easy access to great cleaning services. Firstly, you can contact them by phone, email, or via Unilocal (woot woot!). Scheduling is a cinch — provide some of availability and receive a quote with dates and a clear description of services you’ll receive. Ask questions and expect a prompt clearly written reply. On the day of services, expect them to contact you to let you know they are on their way. Leave some keys or greet them at the door — your preference, but walk away and return to a sparkling (literally) clean home. Pricing, payment process, and personnel are perfect! Will definitely be scheduling them again and referring them to others. Nicely done, ladies!

First time using a cleaning service and I think I’m hooked!
Regina responded within a few hours to my e-​mail inquiry and was detailed and was able to fit me in quite quickly. Amelia and her crew were very friendly, professional and thorough. They were able to get my wooden blinds to look like new again. I’m still amazed by how sparkling they were able to get everything to look. I highly recommend Maid in JC!

This is our third cleaning service … And they came highly recommended. And I can see why… They are so thorough — so fantastic… And wonderful to work with … They get areas I didn’t even know I had… It is so refreshing to know that they take such tender care of my things … And most importantly — each week my house is immaculately cleaned with expert care … Worth every penny!!!

Had my first cleaning today and all I can say is it’s good to be home! I am a very private person and am extremely hesitant to let people in my home when I am not there. My reservations were immediately squashed when I spoke to the co-​owner Regina on the phone. She was straight forward and warm.
The job itself looks like it was done with the greatest attention to detail. They even wrote me a handwritten note thanking me for my business. This personal touch goes a long way with me.

I love love love love love these ladies. I am admittedly a bit of an OCD /​clean freak and even though I have a small dog, my place is generally pretty clean. In the past I’ve used cleaning services (in New York City and San Francisco) and they’ve been pretty good but I’ve always had to clean a little extra or move things back in place. But after getting to know my place in just a couple of cleanings, the ladies of Maid in JC have blown my mind. I don’t even really write Unilocal reviews. But I felt like I had to because of how awesome the service has been. Everything is perfectly tidy when I get home. My dog loves them (which says a lot since he generally hates cleaning days). They’re excellent with follow-​up and have been super accommodating when I’ve had to reschedule. They always go the extra mile. Excellent service all the way around and I’d highly recommend to anyone!

Gina saved my life. My boyfriend and I just moved into an old brownstone in Hamilton Park. Our landlord told us he would do a «broom cleaning» when we moved in, but for unforeseen circumstances was unable to. Exhausted and defeated after the initial move, I called Maid in JC after reading the wonderful Unilocal reviews. I spoke to Gina and explained to her our situation. She told me the first cleaning is $ 65 an hour which i figured was fair, so I asked when she would be available. Due to a last minute cancellation of another client, she was able to fit me in for that day and was at my door within 45 minutes. Gina and Ana were cleaning and within 5 minutes my house smelt cleaner (it was previously occupied by 2 frat dudes, who were less than tidy).
Gina really saved the day. It took her and Ana about 2.5 hours and they did a tremendous job. Basically I hired them to do all the dirty work that comes after a move, and they got it done. Floors were swept and mopped, the fridge was cleaned out, the cabinets were wiped inside and outside, the stove was cleaned and looks brand new! They even made us ice cubes! The best was the little Meyers hand soap they gave me as a gift. It was so thoughtful and it smells great! I am so thankful to Gina and her crew, and I am excited to have them back.

Maid in JC did an absolutely fantastic job with cleaning my apartment. From top to bottom, it looked like a brand new place when I got home from work. Amelia and her staff were actually a few minutes early for the appointment time and were all incredibly friendly. Amelia was a pro when it came to answering the questions I had about the service, payment, etc. They were all also great with dealing with my more than vocal Chihuahua. They even went above and beyond when one staff member accidentally broke a candle holding, going out and buying a replacement or offering me money off my service.
Bottom line: I will absolutely be using Maid in JC again and would recommend them to anyone.

You know how you hire a cleaning service and the first couple of visits are good, then they get kinda lazy and the service goes down hill? I had used the same cleaning company for years and was too lazy to fire them and start looking for another. On the recommendation of a friend I gave Maid in JC a call and have been using them steadily for 3 months now. They are amazing.
They change my sheets, swap out burned out light bulbs and even replaced my yucky shower curtain liner with a brand new one (free of charge). Who does that? The cleaning is always detailed and my apartment smells amazing every time they visit. They rock my life!

With a dog + a cat + a husband + two full time jobs, who has time to clean?
First we tried to keep up with the mess ourselves. Not so good.
Then we hired a service. They kinda started out good but then deteriorated into not so good.
Then we hired a cleaning lady who showed up once a week, used our products and vacuum and that was really not so good.
So we reached out to Maid in JC a few months ago and our apartment is consistently amazing. They change our bed sheets, scrub our bathtub (seriously, who does that?) and get the whole place squeaky clean using Mrs. Meyer’s products. It keeps getting cleaner and cleaner and they actually love doing it! Now we can focus on living our lives without cleaning up our apartment. Their cost is only slightly higher than the other, bad cleaning companies out there. We have our place cleaned on Friday and then relax and hang out in all of the cleanness all weekend long. Awesome service!

Love Regina and Amelia! Great service, they came in on time and finished within an hour and a half. The apartment was left spotless and the laundry was taken care of which was excellent.
Overall very pleased with what they did, couldn’t have asked for more.

If I could give this place negative stars, I would. After my honest review about the company’s services, I did receive an email that same day from Regina but didn’t have time to respond until 4 days later. The company went ahead and publicly responded to my negative review disclosing my full name and my address a day after my review post. I no longer see the response and am not sure if Regina deleted it after she threatened to report me to the NY State Bar or if Unilocal took it down because I flagged it for disclosing my personal information. In other words, Regina threatened my privacy and my livelihood.
A cleaning company you have to let in your apartment/​home to do its services for you should not take privacy as a joking matter. To elaborate, when I asked her to take down my personal information in her public response, she replied,
«Regarding our reply to your Unilocal review – we’ve had so much positive feedback from neighbors in our building, especially because they now know you by name and floor number. You should consider updating a nice photo of yourself so they can introduce themselves to you at the pool.»
This sounds creepy and threatening, especially because she also claimed that «we own a unit in the same building.» The company has my private information in its records, and how will I know they are not going to use it against me simply because I wrote a negative review?
The company offered complimentary services, but I don’t think that’s a viable option after that above response. Also, the sour relationship isn’t going to help either. Another email I got stated, «You’ve made a mockery of yourself in that review. It is priceless and says so much about you. We’ve reported it to Unilocal already.»
I will take some of the blame for not approaching her first before writing the review, but she has taken this whole situation to a different level. I’m genuinely scared and do not want this to happen:

Regina and Amelia are terrific! They were recommended to me by a friend and I have been very satisfied with their services. They do a great job every time and are always on time, efficient, friendly and the best part — I get to come back to a spotless home! They even shampooed the carpets that were dirty in high traffic areas and the results were unbelievably good! I have a dog that probably follows them around the whole time and they are great with her! Overall, I give them a 5-​star rating and would highly recommend them.

Regina and Amelia are very friendly and nice (5 star) but the cleaning result is 3 star at most. We are going to move into our new apartment soon so we hired Maid in JC to clean it. Basically it is very roughly cleaned, the result is fair, it get cleaned in most part. However, refrigerator and oven still look dirty inside; the floor has visible dust everywhere, I feel that they did not mop the floor. When I first enter our condo to see how clean it is and I took off my shoes and walked around, my black socks get dirty quickly with lots of dusts that is so visible (I have a photo for this but don’t know how to post it here). I’m very disappointed. Did I set my expectation too high that the floor will be spotless? I think I’ll try another company next time.

Gina and Amelia are probably the best maids in in town. Very professional and so easy to communicate with. With my last maid service, I’d have to make all special requests with the owner prior tho the maids coming because of the language barrier. Now with a text or little note I can rest assured everything will be how I want it They leave every single thing spotless. And with smiles like theirs, you HAVE to feel comfortable leaving them your keys. Never a problem. Great job guys!

I’m hesitant to post a review for this company, mostly because I want to keep this my best kept secret. But I was never good at keeping secrets so here goes. My wife is 8 months pregnant, I’m a workaholic and our apartment was getting messy. Not just the toothpaste cap left off of the tube, I mean MESSY. I really did not want to use yet another maid service where the maid barely speaks a lick of English and relies on my household products to clean. Fuggedaboutit. Regina and her co-​maid are amazing together, they come with their own cleaning products which are, by the way, ORGANIC. No, they are not the least expensive rodeo in town, $ 120 for a regular cleaning for a very large 1BR if you mention this Unilocal review, but they are by far, THE BEST. For $ 30 extra than my last maid who didn’t even speak English, my wife and I get taken care of in no other way that we’ve ever had before.
I’ve lived in NYC, Hoboken, you name it and I’ve always hired outside maids to help me maintain a certain level of neatness — so when I say that these beautiful ladies are THE BEST, I truly mean it. They come in with bright, happy energy, ask how we are, talk to us while my wife is getting ready for work, offer a tip or advice about this or that, share a joke or two and then get right down to work. They are true professionals.
I HIGHLY recommend using Maid in JC and make sure to ask for the chocolate chip cookies after they’re done cleaning!

My partner and I are always always working, and rarely have time to tend to the cleaning that really needs to be done having 2 dogs etc. Anyway, Maid In JC just cleaned our home, and it was SPOTLESS. The bathrooms were really impressive. I would highly recommend them for cleaning your home. Great attention to detail, and lovely customer service. We will use them again and again.
