Gold’s Gym

Don’t waste your time and go to this gym. Trust me you can find a better membership elsewhere… anywhere is better than here. I only joined because it was walking distance to my house.
Facility: Its a gym but one of the gyms on the extreme lower end. I was apart of Gold’s at another location and the service and facility was waaaaaay better. The gym smells sweaty. The bathroom smells dirty and stink.
Trainers: Do not pay for the training package. I promise they will be a waste of your time. I purchased a set of 6 to try it out but guess what… I had to keep calling to have someone contact me and guess what… the one time someone did they never confirmed the time with me. I literally stopped by and called for weeks and never met my trainer I was always told someone will contact you they are not here today. It was extremely unprofessional. I have dealt with trainers before at LA Fitness, Bally’s and Gold’s (VA location) and never in my life have I experienced such unprofessionalism. They ripped me off. I guess they decided because I pre-​paid there was no reason to provide me with any service.
I moved and wanted to cancel my membership and spoke with the Manager Alexandria. I was on a month to month contract. She informed me I was going to be charged for 3 months (one payment just came out yesterday and the other 2 would come out when cancellation was processed) and she informed me although the trainers did not provide me with any service she was not going to reimburse me for the difference and would not credit the 2 future payments from the amount I paid for the trainied services this Gold’s gym did not provide.
Gold’s gym Jersey City, you are probaly the worst gym in the entire state of NJ. Your customer service does not exist and you should do something with the facility and employ people who actually want to work here because your current employees clearly dont. This is ruining the Gold’s Gym brand!

I signed up with Gold’s Gym for Personal Training sessions that are twice a week for $ 75.00 a week. I paid Gold’s Gym $ 150.00 every two weeks for the services rendered. I did this for 3 months. Gold’s Gym charge my card on file $ 600.00 on April 7^th. When I called on April 7^th and spoke with Jarret at the front desk he said he will speak with his manager and give me a call back. Jarrett called back and stated Robert his manager would be doing a reversal since the system had automatically renewed my Personal Training session and charged my account $ 600.00. It is now April 14^th and I have not received my $ 600 and my account has become over drafted $ 54.12 because of Gold’s Gym error. Not only are they non-​apologetic about their error they simply think I should just patiently wait for my money to be returned to me. Not even a mention of paying the over draft they made me incur due to their error.

I pretty much liked this gym ! It has Zumba dance and also provides with yoga classes and the women locker rooms are neat ! Also they provide smoothies and shakes which are not free of cost though ! But over all it’s nice and they have all basic equipments for gym!

This is the worst gym, please don’t join. First of all It is impossible to get in contact with the rude staff. It took me over 2 weeks to get in contact with a general manager, and I left over 10 messages. The staff is rude, obnoxious, and they charge you for towels. Equipment is dirty, the showers only have freezing cold or extremely hot water. LA fitness or the wellness center in Hackensack are much better options!!! This gym is completely unprofessional and if you hand in a freeze form they will lose it and still charge you!

Gold’s Gym in Jersey City is the WORST Gold’s Gym I have ever been to. The men’s locker room is dirty, most times there is no hot water. The lightbulbs in the shower stalls are always in need of replacement. The sinks in the private bathrooms are falling off the wall.
The equipment is always out of place and trainers are just hanging out.
Poor maintenance of this facility makes it below average.

Writing this review as an update after moving away.
Much better than the Forum, and surrounding JC clubs. One thing I always ALWAYS appreciate about this gym is the fundamentals. They have four benches, three squat racks, three places to do pull/​chinups. That’s 90% of your needs. All you need for stretching, compound body exercises, the most fundamental machines. The forum has 5x the space but not as many of the compound lift fundamentals.
Another thing that was great about this gym in retrospect was them always re-​racking weights. If you can get parking I would say this Gym would be pretty close to a 5.

If a «no stars» option was available, I’d pick that! This gym is far by one of the worst gyms I’ve ever stepped into. The free weight equipment is worn out, the rubber pieces that support the dumbbells are chipped off or on the verge of being chipped off. The treadmills don’t go over 6 mph– the belts need to be serviced. There’s no gym etiquette at all– the dumbbells, barbells, and more are scattered through out the entire gym! Why do I need to go around the entire gym just to find a 40lb dumbbell?!
Worst yet, there’s hardly any parking during certain hours-​I would have to park at the diner next to it. Did I mention that it’s unsanitary as well? I love to going to a gym that’s clean and organized– not a place that’s been hit by a tornado.
Point being– don’t join! Go somewhere else.

This is a pretty good gym. The workers are pretty patient and helpful when you need it. The people that go are helpful as well, and are usually willing to explain how to properly use a machine if you don’t know how. It’s not a huge gym, but there is a decent amount of space to get around and do whatever it is you have to do.

This gym is in a very convenient location. Sure it’s a smaller gym with its quirks like all gyms have but it’s got some amazing fitness class instructors and trainers. You don’t have to go it alone. They actually care. This gym is also almost always open regardless of weather and most holidays (normal business hours of course). I don’t know where my body would be at without them!

The worst gym in the history of gyms. This place is so stuffy I actually had to step outside once to breath some fresh air. The worst part is management. After signing up for personal training, took exactly 3 sessions, we were informed that the company who was doing the training was no longer working with the gym. When we asked for a refund for the unused sesssions a total of 15, the manager of the gym (biggest douche of all time) told us that we woulf have to wait and begin sessions with the new personal training company. Wtf. I wanna train with the company anf personal trainer i signed uo with not the one you choose. Dont go to this gym. Never parking even at 8 am.

I wish there was a zero star option. They don’t even deserve the 1 star hate button. They will tell you one thing verbally and good faith and then stick you with an unbreakable contract. The gym is small. You will have to wait for machines and parking. childcare is offered at odd times. Customer service is awful. stay away. Please. Try Bally’s in Journal Square area. Go to a well established gym or buy a exercise bike. I have lost more weight with my bike at home than going to the gym.
Please research all of the other clients that are dissatisfied with their business practices. I wish I did.

The most unprofessional and incompetent staff ever !!! The place is horrible, the parking crazy.

Childcare is no longer free. They actually have the nerve to charge you after your first child with that tiny ass room, broken pack and play and dirty toys. The staff will barely get off the couch so wish your kids well when you drop off. This place is a dump. The sadder part is that the owner has another location in Teterboro which is like 5 stars but he won’t budge to fix this place? he should just shut it down or let people out of their contracts when they are extremely disappointed with this dump!

Their machines are always broken but membership is cheap $ 19.99/month but then again, you get what you paid for. Parking is horrible so never come here during peek hours.

No frills gym, but clean facilities and friendly staff. It’s a shame that there’s no towel service available, because it would make my workouts and showering there much more convenient. But a great value.

I hate meathead gyms. I’m a diesel dude but I don’t let everyone working out around me know it by «grunting» at every opportunity in order to garner attention.
When I think of Gold’s, I immediately picture Jersey Shore guidos with monstrous upper bodies and toothpick legs, who neglect a whole side (leg machines) of the gym and only dominate the benches.
This Gold’s gym, is not of that ilk. The dudes actually use the leg machines and wipe down the machines/​benches after use. There are more athletes than body-​builders that belong to this spot.
Its new, its pretty clean, it has a friendly staff and the best part, its cheap.

This Gym was supposed to open it’s doors (from what I was told by one of the sales reps back in August) in November of ’09. Today is January 27^th and it isn’t opened. That’s lame! I wish that location would have remmained a Harley Davidson dealership!
