Just moved in next door. I was looking for a good burger bar really close. Not a fan of a place that won’t let you order out or take leftovers home. Shame on this place for putting their needs before the customer.

Dullboy — Hands down best place to go in Jersey City for drinks and snacks — both are a delicacy of tastiness. Awesome ambience as well.

I like you dullboy. Had this in my bookmarks for awhile, finally came here with a friend who notoriously in our friendhistory always creatively never makes it to our play dates(hi kev). But when it happens, we always eat & drink somewhere pretty solid. I ordered the Scout, which was tasty and strong. I forgot what my friend had but it was a girlier lookin’ drink and was lipped with some kind of fruit. By way of food, we had the wings, tuna tartare and tacos. The wings were surprisingly disappointing, in light of the reviews for them — as in they seemed to be goofily dipped and the sauce tasted one-note. The tacos were alright but the tuna tartare with the chips tap-danced to make up for its fellow dishes. I guess my stars lean on the ambience. I liked the seat-yourself-whenever policy. The typewriters on the wall are cute. Liked all the little touches of the décor. The literary theme could’ve been gimmicky but came off charming. I walked out full to the strains of «lay lady lay», one of my favorites — dullboy was the perfect way to kick off the night.

i like this place and i especially like the bartender we had on a wednesday night. it is refreshing to be in a hipster bar, but not be served drinks from a hipster. i’m not sure where they find their ice cubes, but they aren’t hand chipped off a 100 year old glacier. thumbs up. our bartender was a normal jersey boy who came across as genuinely apologetic when he broke the news that three out of the five draft beers were kicked. this is a bar, correct? the tuna tartar was good as well as the homemade potato chips. i hear the bone marrow burger is on point. good atmosphere and nice service. recommend highly.

Im heavily biased towards dark broody hipster bars so i have to give this place 5 stars. Incredible cocktails in a dark and inviting bar. My friend and i shared the tuna tartare as a snack and it was our of this world. Cool, sweet tuna tartare with hot crispy salty potato chips. My mouth is watering all over again. I will definitely get a drink here whenever i’m in the area

My husband and I came here on a Tuesday right at around 5:30. They open at 5 so we were the first customers of the night. We sat at the bar. The whole restaurant has a very trendy design with book pages and typewriters on the walls, exposed brick and dim lighting. Very cool feel to it. My husband ordered a cocktail and I had their bottled ginger ale. For food we had the corned beef spring rolls, kale salad and bone marrow burger. Everything was delicious and fresh. I was shocked that a kale salad could taste so good. I’m usually not into anything that tastes«green» and this salad was done perfectly. The music was a bit loud for my liking and the crowd/servers/vibe felt very young — but I’m 30 and I get the impression I was the oldest person there.

Pleasantly surprised by this place. The sign is just the of the business that was there before covered in spray paint. The décor inside visually pleasing, there’s something about paper on walls from old books. The bar tender was really nice and helpful with all of my annoying questions. They have a really memorable selection of unique spirits. They don’t just have 1 mezcal or 1 craft gin, they have a bunch, it’s really great. I ordered the Joana, lemon, gin, ginger, egg white; really tart, but soothing at the same time. Food…The Caesar Kale salad, the dressing was perfect, great little croutons, the kale really stood up to the thickness of the dressing. Reuben spring rolls were awesome, comforting, great flavors, and the dipping sauce was great. Marrow burger, juicy even at just above medium, really flavorful, and not small at all. I really love this place, one of my favorite cocktail bars, the fact that their food is good too is a huge plus. Great reason to visit Jersey City!

Small, cozy and beautiful. Local’s secret well kept and perfect with a date. Atmosphere is good and music is loud enough to allow a good conversation. Liked most of their cocktails but my favorite is The Scout. Their fries was also great. Quick service as well.

Huge fan of Dullboy! For its food, drinks, ambiance and service. Recently moved to JC from Manhattan and wasn’t sure what the food/drink scene would like and was pleasantly surprised! It was also nice to have such great service, everyone is friendly which is a nice change from the pretentious vibe of similar places in NYC. The food(tuna tartare, fries, bone marrow burger, the other burger) were all delicious. Check it out, quite a happening spot.

Came back here after a terrible first experience, and I’m happy to say that it was a complete 180. The staff and energy towards us were completely different. I first arrived with my friend and we enjoyed some of their food. Surprised with how good the options were. Tasty, too. The big differentiator was the quality in service. Superior hospitality this time although it was, albeit, significantly less busy than the last time I was here. In particular, one bartender made our night extremely enjoyable; Ryan was extremely helpful in picking out food and was excellent at recommending drinks and even created some custom cocktails. Perhaps the owner booted some of the ever-so irritating cocky/rude/condescending/disrespectful staff members after so many people complained about that. Will deff become more of a regular here… hopefully I’ll be able to get seated on the busier nights.

I’m not really sure what I was expecting for a date night, but I walked out very impressed, extremely satisfied, and wanting to repeat the entire dinner over again. From the outside, you have NO idea what you are walking into since the storefront is covered with floor-to-ceiling drapes inside. Walk in through the door, you peak through the curtain and are immediately transported to modern day speak easy. The clincher here: there is no waitstaff. You seat yourself wherever there is a spot and order drinks and food from the bar. I can’t say that I wasn’t confused by this concept at first because this was very different than most other places but I was feelin’ it after we got the swing of things. We made it just before the rush because we got a good seat right at the window and maybe 20 minutes later people already had to wait for tables. Their specialty is the handcrafted cocktails. This place is definitely unique to the area because I don’t think I’ve seen bartenders put together a drink with such care and precision. The combinations are quirky but if you’re willing to take a risk, you will no doubt see the reward. That being said, be prepared to wait for that drink. Got some Blue Points and the Thai Honey & Salt wings. The oysters were huge, and the wings had such a unique flavor. Both a great start. Then 2 Bone Marrow Burgers on deck. This burger was so decadent and rich, it was almost sinful. Definitely making the top 5 on my list, that’s for sure. Cannot. Wait. to come back here!

Love, love, love. Came here for what was supposed to be one quick drink on an overcast Saturday and ended up staying there for the rest of the afternoon. I did learn that they’re partially owned by park & sixth, which explains some of the similarities in the menu. But I wasn’t here for food, I was here to drink. Their old fashioned cocktails were DELISH — and I’m not normally about that life. My friend who I was with was drinking Manhattan’s and also thought they were good. The place is small and intimate, with the backdrop of a great live band it was the perfect way to spend a rainy Saturday afternoon. I look forward to taking advantage of some of their weekly specials!

Loved this spot when it was the old Park & Sixth. Love it now, as Dullboy. Hit this cozy, chic, sexy, and chill spot up if: — You are a diesel gay man, on a date with another diesel gay man, — You are a diesel straight man, on a date with a cute, thin, white chick, — You are a cute white chick, on a date with another cute white chick. ** Do not hit it up if you are a bunch(3 – 4) of bro’s lookin to score with hotties, this spot ain’t for you ** @Brian, props for keepin that kitchen goin. Love the bone marrow burga’s, yo.

I’m happy to have a cocktail bar in downtown Jersey City, and Dullboy did a good job creating a nice atmosphere with the space. I liked all of the little touches, especially the old school sink in the bathroom. Service was attentive and the drink menu has about 20 cocktails. The cocktails focus mostly on gin, bourbon, rum, and tequila. They have vodka and will make something off menu by request, but they don’t have any vodka based cocktails on the menu. I had the Mina(whiskey and bourbon based) and the Roxy(tequila and watermelon) and liked both, but probably favored the Roxy with its summer flavors. I also tried The Last Word(gin and chartreuse based) which I didn’t like, but I don’t like chartreuse, so no surprises there. The Gibson on the other hand I liked very much, if you’re a traditional martini fan this is a good choice. I will definitely be back to try some of the food and more cocktails. Comparing Dullboy to some other local spots for cocktails, I think it edges other places out in terms of atmosphere and I liked their cocktails more than Porta’s and Union Republic’s cocktails, but I like Third and Vine’s cocktails better. One gripe I have is the receipt list tipping options as 20%-25% which is a little off putting to me. I understand they are probably trying to remind patrons you should tip more than a dollar a drink for fancy cocktails, but I think suggesting $ 3 per drink is a little overboard.

GEM. And right outside of my apt too. Dullboy, you’re a real keeper. Ya know that? This is a literary themed cocktail bar. The walls are lined with old books and the cocktails are named after notorious literary characters. The menu and logo are printed in an old school typing machine sort of font. There’s really just no way that I’m cool enough for a place like this. As I sat in the dimly lit room and sipped on a cocktail, I almost felt as if I was in some rich old guy’s study. You know, the kind that smells of rich mahogany… leather bound books… I hope you’ve seen Anchorman… I’ll stop right now. I almost always go with gin, and this time was no different. I had the last word with gin, lime, chartreuse, and maraschino. The taste of the lime was a bit overpowering and the drink was a little warm for my liking, but overall it was still a solid pick. I’m not a bourbon fan at all, but when I snuck a sip of the the scout I was pleasantly surprised. I really liked it! The bourbon taste took a backseat and was weakened by the strong vanilla and blackberry flavors. We didn’t order food but next time, it’s on Dullboy. More then just a cocktail bar, there is a small but delicious sounding food menu. I’m dying to try the big smack burger(imitation of a big mac) and the pastrami egg rolls.

So I’ve been here before, on a Friday night. It was busy, but the bartenders did a good job of getting through people quickly, and making sure nobody waited too long. Cocktails were great, too. But then, I came on a not-so-busy day and it changed my opinion completely. The bartenders not just made great drinks, but also had the time to talk with us about spirits we liked, discuss what’s new and interesting, and even give us a few samples(which inevitably led to further drinks ordered, haha). The décor is super fun with books on one side of the hallway, and old typewriters on the other. Makes me wonder if Jack Nicholson is going to hack through the door in the back marked«Not a restroom» with an axe, yelling«Heeere’s Johnny!», lol. The important thing, obviously though, for a cocktail bar is the cocktails they make. I have to say that the more exclusive cocktail bars in Manhattan have nothing on what these guys put out. The specialty drinks are delicious, as well as them doing a perfect job on more classic cocktails. As for going above and beyond, I watched a bartender slice a banana into a ¼″ sliver, top it with raw sugar, and caramelize it with a kitchen torch, before elegantly placing it atop the lacy foam of a shaken drink. COMEON. You can’t beat that!

I have to admit that Dullboy and I are in a bit of a love-hate relationship. Located in the former Park & Sixth, Dullboy proudly takes the title of Jersey City’s first cocktail bar. The interior is best described as «cozy», with a modest bar counter and a narrow space that has seating for pairs or groups. The entire space is an homage to the written word, with a typewriter hanging over each table and an entire wall covered by books. Earlier in the day, there are still a few remnants of sunlight that filter through the two windows at the front, but the ambiance transforms into something a little more sultry once evening takes over. The drinks are the focus of the menu, and while Dullboy does offer a number of classics, their Signature Cocktails are well worth a mention. They’re named after a number of female literary figures — the Mina, for example, is a nod to Mina Harker from Bram Stoker’s «Dracula»; the Holly takes its name from Holly Golightly of «Breakfast at Tiffany’s»; and the Dolores is inspired by Dolores Haze, or the real name of Nabokov’s «Lolita». Yes, this is a venue for the avid readers to delight in. I sampled the Paloma on my visit here, a classic cocktail that starts with a base of tequila and layers in grapefruit and lime juice as well as a dash of salted orange. Served tall with a rim of salt, it’s a refreshing and lightly sweetened cocktail, perfect for the warmer days. Those looking for something stronger can enjoy a solid Old Fashioned(bourbon, demerara, angostura bitters) or the equally potent Sazerac(rye, gomme syrup, creole syrup). And while I have yet to try the food menu, the feedback I’ve heard on the edibles has all been positive, especially given the tempting sounding B.L.T. tacos, Corned Beef Reuben Spring Rolls, and a decadent Butcher’s Cut Burger. It’s best to arrive early, as Dullboy is getting more and more well-known; several instances I’ve stopped by, the entire space and standing room have been packed. With an excellent menu and well crafted cocktails, it’s not hard to see why. Take a hint from Jack Nicholson(re: Stanley Kubrick’s «The Shining») as, after all, «All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy».

Yaaaass It was ridiculous how excited I was to finally give this place a try. We popped in for after-dinner cocktails on a Friday night. I know, I was expecting it to be super packed too. It was busy but there was plenty of turnover and our drinks were all well-made. Our bartender did a fantastic job and was very personable. I highly recommend the Delores and the Holly. both very different but so, so good. The Delores was clear and strong, and the Holly was still strong but nicely balanced by the cherry and lime flavors and the frothy egg white. Didn’t get to try any of the food menu, but there will be a next time!

DULLBOY had me at first sip! Cocktails range around $ 11 – 12FYI but they are worth it. Decided to stop here before dinner but it was a packed house so I decided to go back after dinner. Still packed but I was able to snag one of the window seats that’s good for groups. We watched the bartender work his magic to create The Gimlet(Gin, simple, lime) and my friend had the Lady Brett(rhum agricole, grapefruit, fernet, lime) These guys have the skills to make sure you get your money’s worth for these cocktails. Two of these bad boys would be enough for me. I took a sip of my friend’s drink and it was definitely much stronger so I was perfectly fine with my drink. The Last Word was super good but I loved when I asked the bartender for something refreshing(and not on the drink list). he mixed up pineapple juice/rum and some other stuff to my liking. I love the vibe of this place… you’re just there to mingle. No distractions with loud music or the TVs as others have mentioned. And with the crowd .you might just bump into the person next to you and they’ll recommend your next drink(it happened to me :) As far as the food menu* it’s limited but I tried the butcher & the dullboy burgers and def favored the butcher because of the flavors & bacon ! I was bummed when they came out with no fries! I just found their Instagram page @Dullboybar …for sure i agree with their slogan — «Boozing done better»

I’m going to go ahead and give Dullboy the 5 stars that it deserves. It is, hands down, one of the coolest cocktail bars in the Jersey City area by Grove Street. I’ve been here a handful of times now, and whether it’s at the bar, or sitting at one of the intimate two tops towards the back of the room, or in the fancy plush sofa meant for groups in the main room, it’s always been fun. The bartenders are super cool, they really know their drinks — and you can either get something from the menu(High recommend Between the Sheets) or you can tell them what you like and they can make you something to your fancy.(Nick, I owe you a picture, so if you’re reading this, click through the pics) I also really like the bar food here — I recommend the homemade rosemary chips with bechamel dipping sauce or the pretzel knots with the mustard mayonnaise. It’s dangerous how good they are. Highly recommend checking this place out if you’re in the area. Tips: 1) Monday nights they know have $ 1 oysters 2) It’s busy on the weekend. LES busy.
