Autosmith

I had a mishap which got me stuck in a ditch. Simple tow out backwards on my frame hitch would have sufficed.

I have been to the Autosmith many times with assorted vehicles. My visits have primarily been for annual inspections or tire changeovers but we have also had the occasional oil change or minor repair.
I have always found them to be easy to work with, I have never had any «surprises» or felt as though I was being taken advantage of.

I went to get my car inspected at the Autosmith the other day. Not because I heard good things (just the opposite), but because I was feeling lazy and the Autosmith is close. They inspected it right away, and found that I needed new springs in the front – they said mine were broken. Their two options to fix the issue would have cost me approximately $ 615 (the «cheap» option) to $ 665.
Well, folks, Tracey Phelps doesn’t have $ 700 kickin’ around, so I got a second opinion. My boyfriend, Jake, took a gander at the springs and being a car guy, noticed that the springs WEREN’T BROKEN AT ALL. The paint was peeling off, but otherwise totally fine! He then told me that the Autosmith tried to rip him off in the past and that I should head over to Bob’s Auto in Essex.
All in all, it cost me $ 65 for an oil change and inspection at Bob’s Auto, as opposed to ten times that at Autosmith for work that I didn’t even need. I know Autosmith is trying to expand and pay for their new stuff, but can they give their neighbors a break? I can’t afford to pay for your new shop, and neither can most of us in this cruddy recession.

My family and I recently moved to Essex and received a coupon for a free oil change to Autosmith. Normally I do my own oil changes and wouldn’t bother, but I figured why not. I was glad to see they found an issue in my front end (go figure with the wonderful roads in VT) while doing the oil change. It cost a bit more than a free oil change, but was certainly reasonable and the service was very prompt.
