Schramm Farms & Orchards

We just transplanted to Pittsburgh from Southern CA and went to Schramms so that I could check out the pumpkin patch. I LOVE pumpkin patches… more than your 4-​year-​old loves them (which may actually be a bit too much)!
I had to have the full experience, so first we wandered into the bakery. I loved that they had some vintage trinkets for sale (need an old fashioned milk urn, anyone?), but I loved it even more that they had lots of delicious pastries to purchase. They had savory options and sweet options, which is unique for bakeries. At least it is unique to anything I have experienced.
We bought a few pastries and then headed into the market. After I looked at every jar of pickled veggie, every salsa, and every jam type they sell, we ended up in the wine cellar. The woman giving the tastes of wine was so nice! She let us try out a few and we couldn’t help but buy a bottle of each that we tried. It isn’t the best wine that I have had, but they have great fruit wine (read: sweet wines) for anyone who loves wine on the sweeter side.
After the market, we wandered into the pumpkin patch. Oh my goodness, did I have fun! We purchased three pumpkins, took pictures in every cut-​out, and walked up and down the few different aisles of pumpkins that they had.
My ONLY complaint was that there was one check-​out to purchase the pumpkins. We waited in line for probably 30 minutes, and I felt that this was highly unnecessary. Two cashiers could have been sharing that scale for weighting the pumpkins… at least. Maybe next year they will add another check-​out our two. That would make this whole experience fantastic!

It’s a little expensive but a great place to go. It does get crazy around Halloween on the weekends, but they do have people directing you where to park. The bakery is delicious, and I am in love with their apple cider and apple butter. Some of the produce is reasonably priced, so I always check that out as well.

Meh. I like heading out to Schramm’s on occasions. They have a nice variety of produce, breads, and bakery items. Not having any kids of my own, I try to avoid going here in the fall, because it is packed, especially on the weekends, due to pumpkin buying, hay rides, just something for families to do, etc.
Why I can’t give Schramm’s 3 stars: The prices are simply too expensive, especially their canned items like jams, salad dressings, etc. I wouldn’t pay what big grocery store chains charge for most items and Schramm’s is more money. Also, I can’t say I’ve ever had a great experience here. No outstanding customer service. It’s just all right. I’ll stop if I’m in the area, but I wouldn’t go out of my way.

Schramm Farm is awesome. I grew up going to this place during Halloween time to pick pumpkins and buy cider and such. They are always friendly and have great things for the kids to do like mazes, pony rides and hayrides.
Their produce is a little on the pricy side but I promise you it’s worth it. Their bakery is phenomenal as well. They made a cake (see pictures) for my son’s 5^th birthday party and it was a big hit. I go as much as possible.

Only been here a couple times. Prices are decent and so is the selection. It’s nice to have a hometown farm. Didn’t earn five stars because I think they could have more variety. don’t know if that’s because I went on a slow week night or what. I would go again I suppose …

Horrible customer service and no compassion for pregnant moms with young children. I actually left in tears today. I spoke to a woman in the bakery and expressed that I planned to buy a variety of things but I had just made an hour drive and was pregnant (while holding my 21 month old son in my arms) and asked if I could please use their bathroom first. The girl gave me a sheepish smile and said she’d have to ask. She asked a woman sitting at a computer 5 feet away. She came back and said that no, they didn’t have a bathroom but suggested a port-​a-​potty across the parking lot. I questioned whether they had a bathroom for employees inside that I could please use. She turned me down. Mind you, it was not busy. I was the only person there. I come from a small, family– run business and I can tell you we’ve never turned someone away asking to use the bathroom – let alone a desperate pregnant mom with a toddler. I am throughly disgusted and will never returned to this place. I’ll be sure to share my review with my many moms groups and friends. You lost a customer and a large sale today, Schramm’s family.

We decided to go pumpkin picking on a Sunday morning. Schramm is not too far from my in laws and my wife had gone there when young. We arrived at about 10:30. They have plenty of parking I believe. Just remember you might have a bit of a hike back to the car if you are getting a pumpkin and then getting things at the bakery, market or wine shop.
One of the things I really liked was how they had many photo setup spots on the pumpkin patch. Great spots to take some family fall shots. Lots of pumpkins (lots of bigger ones if thats your style). Plenty of room so you don’t feel too crowded. They have a few mazes and I believe pony rides (we didn’t do either one). They have these carts too if you want to push around your pumpkins (although I prefer wagons). Oh and maybe NY prices are jacked up, but I thought they were failry cheap. They take cash, credit and yes for you weirdos they take checks too.
One miss was the hay ride. At $ 4 per adult it is a bit too steep in my opinion. You make a cirecle loop around the corn maze (maybe 5 minutes total). I would skip this and maybe use your money on some of the treats in the bakery.
On to the bakery & market… Lots of really good stuff in the bakery. I ended up getting some caramel apples, a mini apple tart, a cookie and some pepperoni bread. We were skeptical about the bread, but they do put in lots of pepperoni so that turned out well. In the market they have lots of fresh produce, apple cider and some ice cream. We wanted to take home some of the pumpkin ice cream but our schedule would have had that melted before we got home. We did check out the wine shop and bought two bottles. I wish I could remember the winery they had, but in the back they had FREE tastings! Can’t beat that.
Overall I was happy with the farm. I would definitely go back, but would avoid the hay ride and maybe checkout the mazes.

Nice good product, fresh, homegrown, but the most expensive farmers market in western Pa. You can get awesome corn vegetables on the side of the road for half the price, and you know it’s HOMEGROWN !!

So far I have only visited 2 farm & orchard type places, but apparently it’s a thing. So, I don’t have a lot to compare on, but I thought it was definitely worth the drive out to Wexford for produce!
The place is pretty big and has lots of different things. There’s baked goods, there’s a small café, there’s all types of fruits and veggies, and even a small section of canned and packaged items.
We mainly went to get some apples because the fiancé LOVES apples, and he was definitely pleased with the quality of the apples. We almost went again the next day because he was so eager to get more!
While we were there, I also picked up a butternut squash, zucchini, thyme and an onion. All were pretty fresh and tasted yummy in my dishes!

We love Schramm’s Farm! We usually go here every year to get our pumpkins and other fall decorations. They have a really nice store, lots of great produce and other specialty items. There are TONS of pumpkins to choose from, fun things for the kids to do, and it has a great, festive atmosphere!

I honestly only go to Schamms for two reasons: 1) to get pumpkins like everybody else around Halloween time. Believe me; it is crazy there at that time of year. However, I swear the pumpkins get more and more expensive every year. And 2) when my family and I need good vegetables. They have the best and freshest in the area.

I came here in search for a couple pumpkins to carve and I not only wound up leaving with FOUR pumpkins (hand-​picked, thankyouverymuch), but also picked up a ton of home-​grown Cortland apples, fresh cider, MAPLE CANDY, popcorn, and several Polaroids of myself posing with pumpkins dressed as athletes (yes, you read that right). Do not be fooled. This place is not so much an orchard, but more of an orchard THEME PARK. It might very well be the best place to visit for fall festivities around Pittsburgh.
When you first get to the grounds, you notice a GIGANTIC corn maize (ha! See what I did there?), rows and rows of pumpkins still on the vine, and a ton of ecstatic children running around. Outside, there are also several food stands for freshly popped popcorn, cider, and a wealth of other county fair-​esque snacks. The store itself is more like a grocery store with fresh in-​season produce, a few pre-​packaged goods, and a little bakery off to the side. While I didn’t get a chance to indulge myself in the bakery section, rest assured it smelled ah-​may-​zing!
While I wish I could’ve visited on a slightly less crowded day, I had a great time prepping myself for a cozy Halloween and fall season!

Okay, so I’m new to the north and this whole apple orchard thing. At first, I imagined i had to walk through all this farmland to pick my own apples off the trees, you mean WORK? Just for some apples?!
In actuality, all the fresh fruit they have is in a indoor market. Everything is about 20 to 50 crents cheaper per lb compare to the grocery store. I came on a Sunday and there was so many events to do for kids. It’s truly a Fun filled family outing if you are planning something to take your kids. Well, im not a kid but I loved it nevertheless! There were games, rides, mazes, etc! the food stands only take cash, but the grocer and bakery does take credit cards at a ten dollar minimum.
Now the best part! THE BAKERY! I spent just as much in there as I did on groceries. All pies were fresh, cookies were soft and chewy, fudge, and one of my fav things I picked up was the pumpkin roll. It was rolled with marshmallow cream so it’s just the perfect level of sweetness (mind you I just picked one up at giant eagle and it was waaaaaaaaay too sweet).
So, keep in mind, this is my first farm EVER. So my plan is to visit more in the area so I have more to compare to. All I know is, I left this one giggling like a little girl :)

Now that I’m a momma — I’m all about healthy eating and trying new things! Since this is my new profession I’ve become fully invested in my new title and thanks to my awesome gramma reinvested in homemaking skills like canning, cooking, crocheting and sewing!
So now that I do these activities I seem to hang out at farms a lot! I just love the idea of getting fresh food local! I come here for produce to can, great baked goods and pumpkin season.
So on canning — this is the first year I’ve canned and I went big: peaches, tomatoes, salsa, chutney, preserves! I used a combo of organic and non organic produce — I get my non organic produce at Schramms. You can’t beat the prices! Great quality and you know it’s fresh — that I like the best!
Now let’s just hope I did everything right and don’t poison people for Christmas!
OK onto their bakery!!! Once a year (during pumpkin session) I allow the ultra fatty in me to partake in a mini tart from their bakery. Needless to say they are amazing and rich and buttery — ie. You can only eat this once a year! Rhubarb FOREVER!
Finally, Pumpkin Season! I’ve come here for pumpkin season since I was a kid cause it’s a real working farm — you pick pumpkins right off the vine in the fields, not just in a pile! They have homemade candied apples and a giant corn maze — it just feels so real and such a celebration of autumn!
I love it all — go here to give your kid a taste of home grown greatness and have a real adventure on a real farm!
