Description

Specialties

Bushy Run Battlefield preserves and interprets for citizens and visitors the site of this pivotal battle fought between British and Native Americans during the conflict known as Pontiac’s War (1763 – 64). Highlights of the site include the interpretive exhibit, «The March to Bushy Run» at the site’s visitor center, as well as guided and self-guided tours, special events and educational programs.

History

Established in 1980.

For more than a century and a half following the Battle of Bushy Run, the site of this 1763 military engagement between the British and the Native Americans yielded natural resources for farmers, lumbermen, coalminers and stone quarrymen. Throughout the years, however, local residents never forgot the historical significance of the site. In 1918, the Bushy Run Memorial Association was formed and purchased the first 17.5 acres. Over the years an additional 200 acres of the battlefield have been purchased and a Visitor’s Center with an exhibit on the battle were built. The Visitor’s Center is currently run by the Bushy Run BAttlefield Heritage Society in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission.
