You’ll see an Amish 1 room school, Amish saw mill, deer farms, Amish Cemetery, visit an Amish Bakery and more. Jim was born in Jamesport before the Amish settled here so he went to school with and grew up with the Amish. He shares his lifetime of knowledge from living among the Amish with personal stories, customs, facts from fiction, and information not found in books in an entertaining and enlightening way. Tour guide Jim Smith was born is Jamesport before the Amish settled the Jamesport area. He went to school with the Amish and grew up with the Amish so Jim has many littler known facts and personal stories not found in books or anywhere else. Jim knows the Amish way of life and customs better than any other tour guide could possibly know because he has lived his entire life among the Amish.

Jim owned a restaurant in Jamesport for 16 years (JJ’S Restaurant) and gave his first tour working for another tour operator in 1985.

Jim averages about 100 charter bus tours a year and about as many smaller groups. Jim has been featured in Missouri Life magazine who called him (an Amish insider) as well as many other periodicals. He has also helped several Amish Booked writers with their books.

Business Owner

Born and raised in Jamesport where he farmed until drafted in 1971. Jim served 7 years in the U. S. Army until he was honorably discharged and is a disabled Veteran.

Jim and his wife owned «JJ’S Restaurant» in Jamesport for 16 years and fed charter buses coming to see the Amish Settlement outside Jamesport. In 1985 Jim gave his first tour and has loved showing off his hometown and all it has to offer ever since his first tour.

Jim says «I feel so blessed to be working in a job that I love! I love meeting new people from all over the U.S. as well as people I’ve met from foreign countries. Jim says, «It’s kind of funny you know, I was the boy in school that always sat in the back of the classroom and got into trouble for talking and now I get paid to talk!» I just love it!
