Richmond Hill Lumber & SUPL Corporation

I used Richmond Hill Lumber when I did a renovation of my apartment.
They ended up being more reasonable compared to the big box stores but more importantly they were beyond helpful.
We got our doors, floors, and crown moldings from them and couldn’t be happier. They had options for every price range.
When you shop at a big box store you are lucky if you find someone who can answer a question. That is not the case here.
Remember Richmond hill lumber will deliver too!

Okay… I am a strong rooter for small business and I certainly want to see smaller hardware and lumber shops see more success than Home Depot… But, funny story today.
We got to the lumber yard at 4:45pm today to pick up some moldings that I needed for a window. They were obviously in a big rush to get us out as fast as possible so that they could close at 5pm.
I gave the clerk the measurements and moulding types. He typed it into the register and everything was correct on the receipt. I then went to wait outside for one of the workers to bring out the lumber. He handed me the order and walked away and closed the pull down metal gate right in front of me.
The car was parked right in front of the store and as I went to put the lumber in the car, Marie noticed that one of the pieces that was supposed to be 3 feet was actually only 2 feet. Then after a closer inspection the 16 feet of quarter rounds were actually 16 feet of half rounds.
We turned around from the car and the gates were down, padlocks were locked, and no one was in sight… it was 5:01pm…
So, I can not complete my project tonight… and I am not driving back there for three pieces of lumber that cost less than $ 8. It is not worth the gas…
So… they get three stars for not being Home Depot… but rushing the customer out and giving the customer the wrong items keeps them from getting higher marks.
I’ll let you know how it goes tomorrow when I call them and see if they will make a free delivery to swap it out… If they fix the error, that would give them at least four stars.
UPDATE 8÷21÷12
Called them on the phone and asked if when they are out for delivery today, if they could swap the incorrect material. The answer was no. They would replace it if I brought it back.
However, this could have been avoided if they didn’t close the gate in my face right after they handed me the wood. It should not be my inconvenience, I did not make the mistake. They were in a rush to close at 5pm on the dot. I’ll have to bring it back next time I am in the area and ask for a refund. I pass Home Depot more often and will just get the three pieces I need from there…
So much for this local business, I felt I had to lower their rating to two stars for poor customer service in fixing errors that they made and for rushing us out in the first place. They deliver lumber every day to homes and could fit a few pieces of wood on the truck when they go out and go a little out of the way when they are heading back to the store. After all, I have to go out of my way to go to them… But, no more… It’s not worth my time. At least at Home Depot, no one picks out the lumber for you, so it can only be my mistake.
