Beky Bakery and Coffee Shop is a Latin bakery located on Jamaica Avenue with Dunkin’ Donuts on the corner and various other shops in between. There is a 99 cents store among the assortment of shops and for knitters, across the street is Smiley’s Yarn. If you cross Woodhaven Blvd, you can visit Schmidt’s candy store. Beky’s is pretty new, it may have been an Italian bakery before it. They have various breads, rolls with cheese, donuts, cookies, croissants, rolls, and cakes and even a savory area where you can get food to eat in or take out. I spied 2 tables with some diners eating. My eyes rolled around trying to capture all the baked goods. I spied a counter full of cheesecakes, there were also sliced cakes in rectangles, bunuelos, arepas, pies and many other items. I went over to the hot food area and saw shredded pork, baked chicken, rice, yellow rice, boiled red potatoes, and crispy pork rind. Food looked good and I would definitely sit down and enjoy some when I get a chance to visit again. I had the guava filled puff pastry claw and square to go and a baked chicken empanada to go. The puff pastries were extremely fresh and light. The flaky layers were crisp, I like mine with a little more guava filling, but the pastries were very good. My favorite of the bunch was the empanada. This one is baked. The skin is thin and you can see the large pieces of chicken. There are really good spices and flavor in this chicken mixture is absolutely delicious. I really, really enjoyed it and would come back to get some more. The lady behind the counter told me they also have a beef empanada and a fried empanada that has beef and potatoes. On hurt me! Workers here friendly and warm! They joked with me and were amused by my picture taking. I took a shot of one of the workers in the picture who really wanted to be in the picture! He’s holding up an absolutely delicious looking pie that has savory fillings. I have seen these in other Latin bakeries. Way ta go! Come and visit for some delectable baked items, as well as breakfast or lunch.
