Jackson Square Laundromat

I’ve had to go here for a while now due to my regular laundry place being renovated, and since then I’ve hated doing laundry more than usual.
First off, this place uses a system that makes you buy a card to use the machines. Even though it’s only a dollar, having to spend money to be able to do business with this place is ridiculous.
The website is either not up to date or just lying. As of today the site says that dryers are free on Wednesdays, but when I asked the person at the front desk about it he looked at me like I was crazy and said «no, half off.» When a website says «For a limited time — FREE DRYERS ON WEDNESDAYS!» I assume they mean free.
The hours are listed as 7 am-​10 pm, but today I came back at 9:30 pm to pick up my clothes and the lights were off and the doors were locked. So I guess I’ll have to pick my stuff up in the morning.
Seriously, avoid this place. It makes laundry even less fun.

This is the only laundromat that I have ever frequented, so I can honestly say, it has been a great resource for my laundry needs. That being said, the place has seen better days. I was attracted to JP Laundro by a Unilocal deal and never looked back. Payment is through store issued cards (which came with my deal 2 years ago, now they cost around $ 1). If you load the card with $ 20, Cash, you’ll receive $ 2 extra. It is said that the prices are higher than surrounding laundromats, but the cleanliness and new machines are what kept my patronage, and those two qualities have been lacking as of late. If the managers would pay more attention to the cleanliness of the building, as well as, the maintenance of the washer and dryers, another star added to my review would be in order.

Once again… It’s 7:20am on Sunday ⁷⁄₁₁ and there is no answer at the phone or doors! You guys are killing me

Got an angry message after my last review, and while I understand why, perhaps I need to clarify some things:
1. If there was an attendant that night, they had either stepped out for the hour+ I was there or they were taking a spin in one of the dryers.
2. The owner insists that you don’t need to purchase cards in pre-​established increments. If this is the case, than the card machine I used was either malfunctioning or had become the money generating arm of «Skynet.» Maybe if an attendant had been there to explain it to me… (see #1)
3. I guess the owner had a problem with the «math» in the hypothetical situation I had proposed. Perhaps I wasn’t clear. The short of it is, I don’t want to pay $ 1 for a card that will always have $ 1.23 (hypothetical number) or $ 2.16 (hypothetical number) left over on it because the wash and dry cycles aren’t calculated in round numbers. I get it. A lot of modern laundromats do this. They do it because just like in «Office Space» or «Superman III» it generates additional income — psychologically it also gives an illusion of value while encouraging return trips. It’s also a crummy business practice. Just because everyone does it, doesn’t make it good. I like to pay for what I get, and cut ties. I just want to wash my clothes — not get involved in a long term relationship.
4. To quote the owner, «The definitiion of Free means NO COST it does not mean the dryers are available. Becuase so many people come to use machines on Wednesday so dryers become less available.»
Of course if the owner had read the review, they would have noticed that the dryers were in fact AVAILABLE. There was no one there. They just COST me money to USE, although there were SIGNS all over that told me they were going to be FREE (no cost). If there was a secret to accessing the dryers for NO COST, it would have been handy to see an attendant, but alas (see #1).
Frankly, even if there HAD been an attendant there, the fact that I’d need to talk to them every time I wanted to conduct a transaction or use the equipment it kind of defeats the purpose of a «do it yourself» laundry.
Luckily JP has a number of «old» laundromats where I can pay less, use quarters, and I don’t have to talk to anyone. Serenity now.

When this place first opened, I loved it. The machines were great, staff was friendly, and most importantly (to me at least) the place was very clean. Now that it’s under new management, it’s a disaster! The fabric softener/​detergent dispensers are always clogged, half of the machines are out of service, and everything is so dirty. Today was my last visit; it took 2 hours for my clothes to dry & the attendant working today does not have a clue about customer service.

When this laundromat first opened, it was great: clean, well-​managed, free wifi. Now it is poorly managed, at least 3 – 4 washer machines and 2 – 3 dryers are consistently out of order and the bathroom is poorly maintained with no soap or paper towels to wash your hands. I will try another laundromat.

The place was fine but service was terrible. I recently moved to JP and the first time I went to the laundromat was on a Saturday morning. I asked about their wash, fold, and dry service. I was told the earliest I could pick my clothes up would be the following Monday given how busy the place was. Fair enough I thought and decided to do the laundry myself. The place was crowded as was to be expected for a Saturday and other than a 5-​minute wait for the dryers I did not have much to complain about. I would give that experience 3 – 4 stars. I went back two weeks later and wish I hadn’t. I dropped my clothes off on a Saturday, picked it up the next day (which I thought was an improvement) and headed back home one stop away on the Orange line. I was a bit surprised to find my clothes returned in a tall white-​trash bag with red strings. When I started to unpack, I found several of my socks were wet and looked like they had not been properly washed. From the looks of it, they had not been sorted through and unfolded — but just dumped — into the washer. The laundry had the opportunity to unfold before washing *and* drying. And they should have noticed how wet the socks were when folding and packing the clothes. I called up the laundry and spoke to the attendant. I asked to speak to the owner and was told he was not in that evening but would be there the next day till noon. I called again the next day, the owner was not in, and I left my mobile number asking for a call back. I never heard back. The experience left a bad aftertaste and I hope they mend their ways or they will risk losing more customers.

Clean and centrally located. Doing laundry is less of a hassle due to having multiple size washers and dryers. Pricing is not super cheap but the clean atmosphere and convenience make up for that.

Well designed, powerful (and therefore fast) machines with huge capacity. A bit pricey, wash is something in the neighborhood of $ 4 – 6 $ depending on which size machine you use. The $ 6.50 machines are truly massive, though. The dryers (also massive) are 25 cents per 5 minutes, and depending on load size 20 – 30 minutes seems to do the trick. Plenty of room, plenty of carts, they could use some more folding tables, they take credit cards, clean, well-​lit, friendly atmosphere, seats and tables and with well-​priced and stocked snack and drink machines.
I’m only giving three stars because I was lured here by a Unilocal deal, when it seems the management didn’t bother to equip their employees to actually be able to make good on it. I purchased the $ 20 for $ 10 deal, and the lady at the desk had no idea what it was. She was very nice and helpful but it was clear management hadn’t communicated at all. She even called her manager for me, but the manager didn’t answer the phone. I ended up buying a card and starting my (several) loads. When it came time to dry them (I thought I’d use the money from the Unilocal deal to do that part) she called the manager again, still no answer. I paid for more money on the card and set my stuff to drying. After that, the manager finally called her back, and had to give her some codes to put an extra $ 20 on my card, which she wasn’t authorized or trained to do, normally. This was a little late, it’ll have to go towards my next trip there.

It’s 7:21am and I’m outside waiting for it to be open no one Inside at all great!!! The website and postings Saids 7am opens! And it’s closed!!! WTF

This business kinda sorta meets my needs when I don’t need much, I guess. I’ll keep going, until someone else comes along that is even more convenient, and less pricey. It’s conveniently located, it’s VERY clean, and the staff is pleasant. My clothes are done nicely, and their SHOE REPAIR IS GREAT.
How are you a cleaners in 2013, and I bring you shirts on a Tuesday, and you CAN’T, not no way, not no how, have them back to me until Friday??! That’s crazy, nowadays! I wasn’t asking you to design and make shirts, just clean them. Dang. What kind of operation…
The equally HUGE issue for me is that there is a SERIOUS language barrier in the evenings when I go. Each time I have gone, and it is now several times, I have had to explain myself repeatedly, in different ways, to the attendant lady (the one with the cute little girl who is sometimes there doing her homework), what I wanted regarding my cleaning. One time, we spent about 10 minutes going back and forth with me trying to explain that I did NOT want creases in my pants. Of course, the pants came back with creases. She gave that blank spacey look (with a smile), nodded, and said «ohhhhhh», then I got the Kanye shrug, with a huge toothy smile.
Also, this same lady has a problem finding the clothes. She looks at the ticket number you hand her, goes to racks, comes back looks again, goes back, says something in Spanish to herself, then asks YOU to come behind the counter and see if YOU see YOUR clothes!!! This has happened on THREE occasions. What if someone else was asked to do that and they just «decided» they wanted to pick MY clothes to take home? Really. Blank stare.
Prices are also a bit high. However, they usually have a nice little coupon on the back of the Stop & Shop receipt from across the street. Helps with the bill.

This is the nicest laundromat I’ve ever seen. Clean, modern, quiet, pleasant. I often see people waiting for their laundry while sipping coffee and using their laptops. I’ve always wanted to come in, but I have a washer and dryer in my building.
When I saw they had a Unilocal deal, I jumped on it and brought in some dry cleaning that’s been waiting for a while. The customer service was great, and the person working wasn’t annoyed or insulted that I used a coupon, which is always nice.

While this is indeed the nicest and cleanest laundromat I’ve ever stepped into, is this place joking with these prices?! I have *never* paid more than a $ 1.50/load and the lowest price for a wash here is $ 3. And of course, there are only four which are always taken, so you have to bump up to the $ 3.89, $ 4.99, and $ 6.99 washers even if you don’t have that much clothes to wash.
And then for dryers, it’s $.24/​6 minutes. Who decided such a random price for a random amount of minutes? Nothing can dry in 6 minutes — nothing. Is this a Boston thing? Jesus Christ.

This laundromat opened up earlier this year, and it’s probably the nicest laundromat I’ve ever been to (seriously!) They use this card system (no coins required) and the staf is really friendly/​helpful. There’s always 1 – 2 people on duty so it’s never empty. There is wifi and a couple TVs, and a lot of places to sit and wait (also there’s a café next door if you’re hungry).
The only problem is that there aren’t a whole lot of folding tables/​carts/​etc (I only really do my laundry on the weekends) and it gets a bit cramped in there on the weekends.
They also offer drop off laundry services (I haven’t used this) and there’s parking on the street in front.
