Vanity Furs

We have been using vanity furs for our 3 pups for 2 years now. One dog is constantly there as she needs regular grooming. The other two don’t need as much so are irregular visitors. But no matter what, they always leave there looking their best. They remember exactly how I need Sasha cut and Jonathan is super friendly. They love my pups. We don’t need any «seasonal bandanas» to make it special — that’s wasteful. The prices are about average for a groomer. We are getting ready to move from the neighborhood and one thought we had was, what about the groomer? I am not gonna go looking for a new one! We just agreed we would just drive all the way from Manderin to Avondale to have the doggies groomed. Long haul but worth it.

I truly dislike writing negative reviews, especially about a local business. But, Vanity Furs completely let us down.
We moved and I was so excited when I found a neighborhood groomer.
When I initially called for the appointment, I asked how much we might anticipate spending for my dog’s breed & weight. The person who answered (AJ) quoted the price I had normally paid for our boy. I happily booked an appointment.
Then the day came when I dropped him off. When I returned for him that afternoon, I was told he had «a lot of matting,» so it would be an additional $ 10. (Hm. Maybe. But we keep our boy’s coat quite tidy.) In addition, I made sure to ask if his ears had been cleaned & his nails trimmed. AJ didn’t give me a straight yes or no, but rather skirted around the question & said that our dog’s nails «really weren’t that long.» Ok…
I paid & took our dog home. When my husband arrived home is when we really looked him over.
1. A choppy overall haircut, with some sloppy patches of hair missing from his legs
2. Dirty, untrimmed ears – something I had specifically asked AJ about
3. No seasonal neck bandana (don’t get me wrong here – not required, but we have always been treated with a cute takeaway bandana from our previous groomers
My husband was furious & asked how much we had paid. I was embarrassed to say that we were actually charged extra for the apparent matting on our dog’s legs.
I phoned Vanity Furs the next day…3 separate times. I left a voicemail with the third call & briefly mentioned our dissatisfaction & requested a call back to rectify the situation. No call back that day. I tried again the following morning &, again, no answer. It was as if they were screening their calls. So I asked my husband to try from his phone. And when he did – alas! – Jonathan answered! When my husband asked about our dog’s cut, he offered a somewhat better explanation about the matting, having to use a different tool, etc. and mentioned he wasn’t «in the business to give bad haircuts.» Jonathan offered no apology nor a desire to make it up to us at our next visit.
My husband and I are simply disappointed with how we were treated at Vanity Furs. As a potential new consistent client, I’d have thought they would have wanted to go above and beyond to please us. But the combination of lack of communication (we needed a much better explanation about the choppy haircut right when I picked him up), not returning (and possibly screening) my phone calls afterwards and «forgetting» to tidy his ears (standard practice with any full groom) made for quite the negative experience.

This was my first experience at Vanity Furs and it was excellent. I took my long haired dachshund Cooper there and he got a full groom and a haircut. He looked great and he was happy upon my arrival. The price was an added bonus. The staff was great and kind and Cooper will definitely be going back!

Jonathon is a wonderful groomer and I am so happy to have found such a great grooming service in Avondale. My dogs are large and extremely hairy, but he handles them with ease. Both of my dogs always get compliments from strangers after their haircut and grooming. I had one person mention to me they thought my dog, Rex, had the best grooming job he had ever seen. The shop is clean and smells nice, and they are quick to return voicemails and have my dogs ready at the time that they quote me. I highly recommend this groomer and will continue to have my dogs groomed at this salon.
