Hawthorn Salon

Believe the hype. I moved to Jacksonville earlier this week and called Hawthorn because I had not had a haircut since February. With extremely thick hair that was not being shaped, I was beginning to look like a creature from another world. I called and thankfully had an appointment open up for me to go today.
The salon is extremely clean and the staff is welcoming. They sell Bumble and Bumble products, which I’m a huge fan of so that was an added perk! I was taken back in a reasonable amount of time and had Gayla as my stylist. She listened to my preferences and truly worked hard to make my hair-​wishes come true! I even booked my next appointment before leaving which is a rarity for me even at my previously regular salon.
I am extremely picky about my hair and can say that I had a high level of nervousness before my appointment. Afterwards, I was nothing but smiles, confidence, and happy!

I’m so glad I was introduced to Hawthorn, and am very sad that I moved to Tampa. I adore this place. I have curly hair and most stylists will cut my layers as if they’re cutting straight hair. It leaves me with no dimension and it just doesn’t look good. If I were religious, I’d say Bryce was sent from heaven. I’m always happy with how my hair turns out after seeing him. Not only does he give an incredible cut, but I love his laid back personality. There isn’t any forced conversation, which is great for me since I’m not a fan of talking the entire time I’m in the chair. He understands that all curls are different… something I wish more people would understand. Now I have to schedule my cuts during my trips to Jacksonville.

I’m not a huge hair enthusiast and do the bare minimum to maintain mine (oops) but I’ll always be willing to spend a little bit extra to ensure a great quality experience, and I’m a really big fan of Hawthorn. First off: the atmosphere is *to die for* — and I don’t use that phrase lightly.
The space is incredibly well-​decorated and spotless, and the staff is attentive. Complimentary beer or wine is offered upon arrival, and they always offer to take my coat. For me, it’s the little things like that, that make such a big difference.
As for the hairdressers, they are always kind and helpful, and willing to work with whatever you’re looking for! Another thing I’ve always appreciated is that there is pretty much always someone walking through the aisle to sweep up any stray hair left on the floor.
Booking an appointment online is a really handy tool they offer, and it’s always been a quick and painless experience for me. Hawthorn has got it goin’ on.

Hawthorne is the best salon in Jax! I have never gotten more compliments on my hair than when I started coming here.

I absolutely love hawthorn! Even more after the renovation. I see Martha here and be warned she’s FABULOUS so you must book month (s) in advance. They have stylist here for anyone from men to kids!

I just moved to Jacksonville so the thought of finding a new hair stylist was daunting. Long Haired Ladies, you know how scary it can be to change stylists– It’s happened on more than several occasions in my past where I tell the stylist «just a trim» and she hacks off multiple inches and I’m set back four months in terms of hair growth. It’s the worst.
Anyways– I set up an appointment with Wendy, who was very friendly and engaging. She looked at the texture of my hair and talked to me about the style I wanted, my typical daily routine with how I tend to style, etc, before she even brought me over to the sink for the hair wash.
I told her I wanted a trim because I’m still growing it out, my layers needed a little cleaning up as well, but really I was open to whatever she felt my hair needed in terms of shaping. She took her time with cutting my hair, didn’t do a quick snip-​snip-​brush-​snip like most do. Then she gave me the most gorgeous blow-​out I’ve ever received before handing me a mirror and showing me the back. It was exactly what I was looking for in a haircut! She did a phenomenal job! So happy I can cross «find a hair stylist» off my list. Thanks again Wendy, see you in a couple months!
Oh side note: I found the price for a cut and blow to be extremely affordable. This is the least expensive haircut I’ve ever had, in the Ft. Lauderdale/​Miami area a hair cut and blow of this quality averages about $ 120. This only set me back $ 45 before tip. Can we just talk about how amazing that price is?

You really can’t go wrong with a stylist at Hawthrorn! Wonderful experiences for cut, color and men’s cuts. I’m sad that we had to move away, because they were by far the best salon we’ve ever used. I personally loved Tiffany, but all of the stylists are wonderful. By the way– make an appointment online. So much easier than the phone.

Today was the first time I went to Hawthorne and it’s truly the best salon experience I’ve ever had. My stylist, Kaylee, was very sweet, professional, and well informed, she assessed my hair after I sat down and recommended a deep condition/​strengthening treatment, which I was surprised to find out was only $ 25. It made my hair feel like silk! I can’t stop touching it, it’s so smooth and soft.
Now I clearly have very processed hair and was a little shaken at the amount that needed to be cut off due to various kinds of damage, but Kaylee was very helpful with recommending products and styling methods to help me adjust and take care of my hair better in the future.
The salon itself is truly gorgeous. Hard wood floors, free drinks, beautiful lighting, pretty b&b and kerastase products lining the walls, ample seating, it’s definitely the prettiest salon I’ve seen in jax. Everyone I talked to there was polite and friendly and I’m going to make sure to schedule an appointment for when I’m back from school over Thanksgiving. I’d give this place ⁶⁄₅ if I could!

I just moved here from Colorado and had the dreaded task of finding a new hair stylist. I am completely blown away by my experience at Hawthorn and with Tiffany. The salon is beautiful, people are friendly, and they have great beverages for you to enjoy. By far the best thing are their stylists. Mine was Tiffany and she is amazing! She totally understands my fine, volume-​lacking hair and showed me different ways to get more body. Looking forward to seeing my gal Tiffany for my next appt!

This was my 5^th time here but this is the first review I have wrote for this place. I’m glad I brought my children here because they did a marvelous job, and everyone was so nice too. I really like everything about 5 point.

I so badly wanted to make this salon my go-​to, but after letting my curly cut settle in for a couple weeks, I realized it’s not a great cut. This place has stellar customer service, an amazing vibe, and great products, but I can’t recommend it for naturally curly girls!

Jacksonville is a better place because of this salon. For me, it is a family affair. My brother, mother, niece, and my 8-​year-​old daughter all go here to get our hair cut! They are not pushy with their products and are always professional. I love love love Jim– he is amazing!
The first time I went there– I had a cut and color by another stylist that was not done to my liking. They instantly set up an appointment with Jim to fix it. He absolutely fixed it– I love my hair! I have never gotten so many compliments since Jim has cut and colored my hair– and let’s be honest ladies: hair is important!
You will not be disappointed in this salon! If I could give it ten stars I would!

I hadn’t done my hair in a really long time and was wanting something different. I saw this place was close to my house and the reviews were great. I’m so glad I went. Tiffany is absolutely amazing when it comes to color. She took my rough looking hair and made it beautiful so happy to have finally found an amazing hairdresser.

I adore Hawthorn and am so glad I was introduced to it. I’ve watched the salon grow over the years and I have a genuinely awesome experience every time.
I have long hair and I’ve always had a hard time finding a hairdresser I trust. Martha is the bomb and my favorite. I’m sure anyone here is just so great, though. I have friends that go to many other stylists and I have never had a bad word uttered about their experiences here.
It is on the pricy side but you’re d finitely getting what you pay for, hands down.

This salon is pricey, but they do a great job. I have had my hair cut by both Jim and Martha, and they are both incredibly skilled. Jim gave me a haircut that looked perfectly styled even when it air dried. Martha tends more towards a casual and youthful cut, and she explains what she is doing as she goes. Also, everyone there has always been exceptionally nice and friendly to me. I highly recommend this salon if you are looking for a trendy place to get a good haircut.

I first went to Hawthorn maybe 2 years ago after moving away from my stylist of 4 years. The girl who cut my hair that very first time was the dullest stylist I ever had. She made no effort at conversation, but managed a good haircut… Nothing stellar. I decided she wasn’t for me and wandered aimlessly through several other Riverside/​Avondale salons.
I never really found a good fit and some friends really liked the service they were getting at Hawthorn, so I decided it was time for round two. I didn’t choose anyone, just took what happened to be available and I am so glad I did, because that’s how I found Martha.
Martha is a wonderful stylist who clearly enjoys her job and does it so well. My first time in, she listened to what I had to say about my typical cut/​routine and could sense my apprehension at a new salon. She talked me through what she would be doing and I left one happy camper. Just went in a few days ago and had tell her I’d be moving away and I nearly cried. Martha gave me a «good luck» cut and some recommendations for my new city, but I made an appointment with her for the holiday season anyway, just in case. She’s so knowledgable at her craft and very easy to talk to, a perfect combination in a stylist.

I felt like I needed a more «adult» place to get my hair cut and since I knew my friend loved her hairdresser at Hawthorn, I decided to make an appointment. When I checked their website I saw that curly hair is one of Martha’s specialities, I was set.
I was able to make an appointment online, which is a big plus for me. I always think about these type of things at odd times so it’s nice to be able to make my appointment whenever the mood strikes.
Anyhoo, I had a 10am appointment and while we got started a few minutes late, I could not have been happier with the experience! I have hair that is not totally curly but definitely not straight. Anyone with similar hair knows how easy it is to get a bad haircut when your hair isn’t the most predictable. I told Martha about my hair and how I usually get it cut and she got it right away. She explained exactly how she was going to put in the layers so that my hair is easy to style and low maintenance (just wanted what I wanted).
It wasn’t one of those awkward hair cut conversations that are weird and uncomfortable, Martha and I just chatted away and before I knew it, we were done. She blew my hair out really nicely, explained the products she was using, etc. I absolutely love the cut and also loved that Martha did it in a way that doesn’t mean my hair will go nuts if I don’t make it back in in exactly 8 weeks.
The price, of course, is higher than a lot of places around town but I am really happy with the whole experience. Everyone was super friendly, the place is really cute, and Martha was just awesome.

I have nothing but good things to say about Hawthorn. Martha has been cutting my hair for a year or two at this point and I wouldn’t dream of going elsewhere and betraying her hairsmanship. She also cuts my toddler’s hair and does a wonderful job of giving him a great haircut and settling him down — I’m sure the lollipop she gives him does most of the work there, but still.
The salon itself is pleasant, stylish, and provides free Bold Bean coffee, beer, cucumber water, etc. — I live out on the beach but Hawthorn is worth the drive every time.

I started frequenting Hawthorn when my long time stylist, Christina, started working there. It’s a hip, modern salon located in Five Points. The place is always clean and the employees are always friendly and helpful. I LOVE that I can make an appointment online and get an email reminder a few days before my appointment. Prices are pretty standard — my normal cut runs $ 40.
But more on Christina and why she is awesome. I was blessed (cursed?) with naturally curly hair. Now, not everyone knows how to cut curly hair appropriately. If you want bangs and the stylist doesn’t leave length for curl shrinkage, you will look like an idiot. If you want layers and the stylist doesn’t know how to work your curl pattern, you get steps in your hair. Curly hair has a mind of it’s own and you have to learn how to tame it appropriately. My cut looks like I’m headbanging at a concert — hair is flipped left, then right, then forward, then back, then twisted all over all while little snippets come off. She’s quick, efficient, and when I’m done the uncontrolled mess I walked in with will be nicely layered and shaped so I no longer look like Medusa.
Also — Christina and another stylist recently did my and my mom’s hair for a wedding last month. 25 bobby pins and a lot of hairspray kept me looking fabulous for 13 hours!
