Love love love this record store. Went on Sunday for the first time. Drove from the beaches due to the lack of good stores out there. Went in with my son and his girlfriend and just had fun looking through all the new and used records. Much bigger supply of Punk and Hardcore than I would have thought. I urge everyone to support this store as much as possible. It is a dying breed and I would hate to lose it. Ended up buying a Joy Division record and a Bad Religion Record. Watched my son and his girlfriend play some pool, but really just had a great time being in the store with all those great records. Great vibe. Nice, helpful staff. I will be frequenting this store as much as possible. Reminded me of my favorite record store of all time when I was in college — Hyde & Zeke’s, Gainesville, Florida. This store is just much bigger.

Deep Search treated me kindly as I briefly dropped in the other day. I’m from out of town and I needed a quick vinyl fix before I headed to a wedding.
I read mixed reviews of Deep Search, but I think it’s a very unique record store. I ended up buying a Japandroids double compilation LP that I’ve never seen before. So that was abundantly cool!
The guy behind the counter seemed like a genuine fellow, as an Old Crow Medicine Show type of music filled the speakers. I found an interesting selection during my thorough searching (a live Dylan album from 1963, Dinosaur Jr.‘s complete discography, and a few Funkadelic records I rarely come across).
Deep Search also has a sit down bar, a pool table and a large selection of used books. Lastly, they possess many used jazz records and even a local section (which I always appreciate). Kudos, Deep Search!

A record store with a pool table … how wonderful is that?

Amazing record store! Found a few I was in search for and a few surprised me. The new guy who works behind the counter during the day is extremely patient, kind and helpful. He has great knowledgeof the store and where the records I was looking for was. Altogether best record shop I’ve been to. They have a great selection of the oldies and a little collection of the new stuff. I will be going back!

I really enjoyed this place! I went through some reviews before driving all the way out Downtown (as I am from the Beaches) and saw both positive and negative. I decided to drive out there anyway as I am always interested in browsing through vinyl. I personally don’t like being bothered while I am shopping, i like to keep to myself and the fact that nobody went out of their way to talk to me was alright for me.
There were so many great records, it was hard to choose which ones I could leave with– I ended up spending $ 60 on three new vinyl which I am happily playing as we speak :)
I wanted a specific vinyl, but they didn’t have it for me at the moment. The sales associate was nice enough to order me one when they get their next shipment, I would say it can’t get any better than that :) Love this little place, will definitely be back!

Cool little record spot in 5 Points!
New and old records and even local bands have their records there! It’s a cool place to stop in and browse around especially if you have friends from out of town.
However, the other reviews are correct. Guy who owns the place doesn’t really get personable with you. Doesn’t really seem to be having a good time however, the place has been there for almost a year and the doors haven’t shut yet so even though he’s not smiling he must be making a profit.
So be warned you’ll have to make yourself feel welcome but still a cool spot especially when they host events.

not great but ok overall. selection of used was better than expected but prices were 2 bucks higher than you would hope for. there is a staff person there … that is all I can say about them. overall ok store to look through for a lil while and they did have a turntable set up to try out selections.

I have quite the love/​hate relationship with Deep Search. I love my vinyl and I want to buy my vinyl locally. I don’t want to travel out to the Beaches or order it online; I just want to buy it less than 5 min from where I live. This feat is rather difficult when Deep Search’s inventory is so small. I try to come by here every few weeks to see if I can find something to add to my collection and I usually leave empty handed. I was here just a few days ago on Record Store Day in hopes that they would have some kind of limited release that I’d love, but unfortunately, that was not the case.
On Record Store Day, I spent about an hour browsing to only end up buying a Beach Boys album with the majority of my favorite songs by them on it. I also grabbed some cd samplers (the new Amplified Vol 1 put together by The Elbow and a few just for Record Store Day) as well as the newest album from one of our local bands. I felt kinda ashamed with how inexpensive my total came to be after spending so much time in the store.
I like the layout of the store with newer albums are near the front of the store and used albums are toward the back. There’s also a pretty great classic book collection in the middle that is definitely worth perusal. I do love seeing a few listening stations about as well. I know that Deep Search will regularly feature local bands in store, but have yet to make it to one of these events. They have a great space for that kind of thing too. I’m still holding on hope that Deep Search continues to grow and that I will be able to walk in and find exactly what I’m looking for.

If you’re looking for soul and hiphop records they have a nice collection of soul records and some hip hop. They have most of Tribe Called Quests records if not all. I’ve bought a couple James Brown records and he sold me his James Brown Sex Machine 45 right off his turntable as he was playing it. I like their prices here the best, I went to DJs record shop and while it had a lot of records the prices there were too high. Prices here are a lot more fair. Don’t expect any jolly customer service when you go. The guy that works there is quiet and doesnt bother you at all. Nice guy though, and nice record shop.

I’ve only been in here three or four times, but I’ve always kinda felt like I didn’t belong – my pants weren’t tight enough, I don’t own enough apple products, my bike has gears, etc. I felt like I was imposing – like I was browsing stuff in the living room of some hipster’s loft while he drank his tea and surfed the web (at least, I think that’s what he was doing).
The collection is okay if your into it – a little bit of this, etc. The book collection looks like that of some English Major, selling all his books to afford a place in Paris to be with his girlfriend while she studies art there over the summer – it is a mixed bag of modern and classic, er, classics. What you’re supposed to have read (or be reading or carry around with you like you’re going to read) between the ages of 15 and 24. STILL, TO ME, UNLESS you’re going to distribute books you can’t get in town (like AK PRESS and zines and radical stuff), why sell used books and compete with Roosevelt Chamblin’s, the best bookstore within 500 miles?!
NOTE: I like that he had the new zine on RADON (an old gainesville band). He has a bin full of Dead Tank Records’ stuff – which is probably the best reason to go into the place!
I hope he can turn this into a real record store, but sadly, having seen 5 of them come and go over 23 years, I don’t know if it’s possible. The most successful places in 5-​Points have always been the places that sell escapism – costume-​fashion or alcohol.

I really wanted to like this place. First time stopping in was about 6 months ago, and again today. Both times the person running the store completely ignored us, barely looking up when we came through the door. Ok– maybe he’ll acknowledge us when we go to pay? Nope. The only time he looked up was to tell us how much we owed for the records. No thanks, hello, smile. both times I felt like we were inconveniencing them by shopping there. We like to shop local but definitely won’t be back to a place that can’t even be bothered w/​basic customer service.

What’s old is new again. Five Points used to be a funky mix of hip (and cheap) clothing stores, music stores, coffee shops, antique shops and places to catch live music nightly. It was this edgy milieu that fueled my love of a neighborhood that was a refuge among the sea of chain stores and lifeless surface parking lots that engulfed the rest of the city. The mix of stores in Five Points has been trending decidedly more upscale in recent years. A once thriving music scene has slowly disappeared from the landscape. Even the eclectic thrift stores have closed in favor of more high end boutiques. But, Deep Search Records proves that what’s old is new again and is once again contributing to what made Five Points such an interesting place to spend my formative years.
First off the, Wes Anderson-​esque logo is reminiscent of my favorite movie of all time… The Life Aquatic. If they sold t-​shirts, I’d buy one just for the logo.
Inside there is a small selection of books, a coffee bar and a selection of vinyl. The record selection ranges from jazz, hip hop, rock and old classics (everything from MoTown to Neil Diamond). They do sell a small selection of needles, but no record players from what I saw. The record selection is small, but well sourced. I particularly liked that they had every Tribe Called Quest album in stock.
The space could use some additional inventory and perhaps a few chairs that double as listening stations while one sips on some coffee. But overall, this looks to be a step in the right direction for the neighborhood… back to the future.

This little book/​records store is just what 5 Points needed. Simplistic, hip décor mirrors the small but pointed collection in this quiet, quaint hangout. The collection of books here is by no means extensive, but it’s well thought-​out. Palahnuik, Kerouac, Dostoevksy, Rand, Dickinson, Faulkner, Hemingway, etc. If you went through every book in the store you could hold your own at any dinner discussion or English lecture without burning up too much time on obscure literature. The records are similarly chosen with an equal balance of modern and classic — think Kanye West meets Gordon Lightfoot. With a smattering of café tables and a cozy, comfy couch, I could absolutely see myself wiling away an afternoon at Deep Search. I think I saw some coffee makers behind the main counter too! I’d highly recommend nosing around here during your next outing in 5 Points.
