I hate writing this. We have been going there for years and have loved it. Over the past several months the food has been terrible, cold food and burnt sauces to name a few. I won’t go back until I hear it has been fixed.

Excellent Hot Wings at a reasonable price. We used the outdoor seating area and my two little boys made a mess around our table and our server was so sweet about it. Great service and the beer came fast. I highly recommend the Bayou!

I rolled up today on my BMWG650GS, my wife had never been to The Bayou. I told her it was a nice little out of the way joint where you could get a decent lunch. It’s the kind of place that when you crack the door on a sunny day the dark, coolness of this dive bar will make you feel like you are putting on your old favorite pair of shoes. Once you eyes adjust to the light, you notice a quiet comfortable environment and find a place to sit. The staff and crowd are all local people. The wait staff take care of you with precision and the food is delivered on time and direct from the kitchen. I noticed right away that even though this is called a Bar and Grill, the care taken with the food is very evident when you get your plate. I ordered the Chicken Leg Quarter, green, it came with green beans and cornbread dressing. I love the kind of place that chooses the sides for you. I’m not a picky eater and they know what they do well. My wife ordered the Catfish Filet, Fried Okra with sweet potato fries. My chicken was baked to complete perfection, It had a lightly smoked flavor and literally fell off the bone. The skin was perfectly browned with added spices for flavor. I loved the dressing, a dish that is usually served at Thanksgiving(which I love) was a nice surprised addition to the plate. Green beans that I swear someone’s Grandma could have canned last summer were a welcome addition as well. I tried my wife’s Catfish, Okra and Sweet Potato fries. All were tasty. It’s amazing how many places seem to screw up Catfish. This was served piping hot, golden brown and very tasty. It’s one of those times that you burn your mouth just trying to enjoy your food. It’s that good. All in all a great meal at a great price. I pride myself on finding places that are out of the way but very accommodating and delicious. The Bayou has been in Pocahontas for a long time. It is well worth the trip.

Worth sidetracking a little off of Interstate 55 or highway 61. A small town bar and restaurant just east of downtown Pocahontas, MO. Great food, fun and off the wall atmosphere occasionally. Been there several times and always received good friendly service, hot food and a good menu selection. Best tasting catfish ever! Cajun dishes that make you feel like you’re in the middle of the Bayou. Keep and eye out for the alligators they might be looking for a free meal. After enjoying a great meal take time to drive around the area, some of the most beautiful countryside in southeast Missouri!

Okay for small-town USA. My husband had the catfish and enjoyed it. He had the baked beans with ground beef as a side. He said they were strange. I ordered the beans and rice. The menu said there was sausage in it. I looked hard but only found two very small slices. It was good but if we ever go back I’d just order a sandwich. Restaurant and bathroom appeared very clean but there were A LOT a flies

The food was good. and served at the correct temperature – nice and hot. There’s lots of menu items to choose from(love the desserts, ie blackberry cobbler and a chocolate something or another). The patio seating is lovely. Employees are super friendly and very helpful. There are lots of motorcycles parked out front whenever I pass by. It didn’t feel like a «tough guy» kinda place; I was very confortable there.

This place is a quaint little place that I know I would regular if I lived near here. We came here on a Saturday night with 9 people. We did call ahead and the service was awful. I think they just didn’t have the staff for as busy as they were. The prices were great. The food was good and I loved being able to have a low key place to eat at. I wouldn’t go out of my way to go here, but it’s close to my sister’s so I’m sure we will be back.

I went here for dinner with a group of co-workers. The restaurant was recently re-done and the atmosphere was nice, but the tables and chairs were a bit too institutional. Otherwise, I really liked this place. Definitely, a hometown watering hole for the locals. There was a pretty good crowd there that night and everyone seemed to know each other. The servers were very friendly and the service was prompt. The food was real good too, the wings were better than any other I’ve had in the area to date. The owner heard from the waitress that we were from of town and stopped by our table to say hello and bought us a round of drinks… Very nice gesture. In an area that seems to be littered with fast food and chain restaurants this place was a welcomed change. I’ll be back!

The Bayou Special doesnt sound great but every time i go i order this sandwich and force whoever is with me to try it… and from then on they go back just for that. its about a ½ in thick piece of smoked bologna, then pan seared, dipped in bbq sauce, topped with slaw on tx toast, yum!

Good food… Cold beverages… Laid back. The only mild issue was it’s a little smokey. :)
