County Line Hardware

I was recently interested in getting a push blower for our leaves. I have a back pack blower but it isn’t enough for the size yard we have. I looked at the 2 big stores, really didn’t like my selection and I was told that they sell a lesser quality of the name brands so I was forced to look else where. County line hardware is a Stihl dealer and Stihl refuses to sell thru the big guys like some other brands like little wonder and billy goat. They had a sale on the Billy goats. The owner suggested I take the cheaper Subaru version to the Honda. He promised me the Subaru is bullet proof. The owner then brought it to my house about an hour later. He was very knowledgeable and down to earth just a regular guy. The rest of the people there are his kids and all were helpful as well. Since then I have been back several times for different things and they always have what I want. This is the kind of place we need to keep around. Quality and American made stuff is hard to find.

Nasty owner! He wouldn’t help me pick out a sheen for a gallon of paint I was buying. Was rude to everyone in the store. He was so awful I left and drove elsewhere to find Benjamin Moore paint. Do not spend your money here!

This place is the reason I prefer to buy my parts online, either on eBay or other outlets. I recently went to buy a part. I didn’t have the model number but I did have the dimensions. The poor excuse for a salesman had to get off his ass to ‘help’ me (there were no other customers in the store). After a quick search on eBay I found the part and bought five for the price I would likely have paid here. Not only did I waste a half hour each way driving to support a local business, I went home empty handed because they’re too lazy to even try. There are other options for the consumer, sadly, based on other reviews, they haven’t learned what it takes to remain in business… not only first time purchases but repeat business as well. I probably won’t be back.

My experience is as follows: The owners consisting of the father, son and Daughter are nothing more than complete bigots who discriminate against people other than their own heritage (Irish). This is based on complete empirical observation through palpable interaction with the owners. The father, a very acrimonious store owner is not supererogatory in his tasks to assist consumers. I encountered from the onset, a complete hostile attention to my request for assistance with outright arrogance, particularly by the son and father who indeed emulate each other’s personalities. The father huffed and puffed while doing my project and then was confrontational with his speech dialect when informing me he can complete the task while informing me minutes prior that he could not do what I requested. The son who I requested assistance more than three times, thought it was professional to ignore me, solely due to my non Irish heritage, and assist those that resembled himself. This was so outright evident as I was amazingly watching this downplay of events!!! IF I were not in the midst of having my project in completion stage, I would have left. My mother too encountered the same experience prior to my visit which resulted in complete utter disdain. These owners are arrogant, bigoted Irish Americans that truly resemble what my professor Nolan once explained in our Social psychology class, that Irish people are the most bigoted people towards others. Straight from an American Irish professor!!! It appeared that the threesome, more pertinent, the son and father, are systematically hateful towards Italians and other people of the same external appearances (Greek, Spanish, South american descent) that I advise all people of non Irish descent to avoid patronizing these bigoted and incendiary personalities. They have not been taught true manners and learn the obligatory requirements for proper management and interpersonal skills. I and my family will never spend our money at this store. There are more than ample hardware stores in the vicinity that appreciate the true nature of camaraderie.

If I could give this merchant a zero, I would. I’ve taken my chainsaw to this place a couple of times to have the blades sharpened and then later my rider mower believing it was an honest place. I should have not given them anymore business. I paid a lot of money for the rider mower job that didn’t fix the problem — a friend ultimately fixed it and was simply because they didn’t put any thought into what was really wrong. They told me a possible new engine down the line and it was a solenoid that needed replacing.
Today I came to pick up my push mower. When I dropped it off I specifically asked for the carburetor to be cleaned ONLY. My jaw dropped when he (the owner) told me the amount. The bill was more than the mower… heck I could added a couple more bucks and bought a new one! Before I gave it to them, I changed the oil and filter myself. Accidentally, I poured questionable fuel into the tank and that screwed up the carb. But their repair bill included a new air filter (because it was so mashed up with dirt!) and a new blade (did I ask for a tune-​up??). Oddly, their affiliated store in Howell did the same to me a couple of years ago. Maybe they figure I’m a stupid helpless woman because I’m the one bringing in the machines.

I dealt with this owner a lot through the years both before and after my time in the Army. He has ALWAYS been a frigging prick. I like to support local businesses as much as the next guy, but I started going to big box hardware stores because of him. I’ve personally witnessed him yell at customers on numerous occasions as well as send women crying from his store. He will NEVER have my business.
In addition, I don’t put any trust in the only 5 star review being written by the owner’s son. What a joke.

If you love a local hardware store that can repair anything they sell, give excellent experience based advice, and recommend great local contractors this is your place. Sure dad can be grumpy but he’s a smart guy and there’s lots if people that will help you.

When I heard of a local place that services/​sells lawn equipment, I was excited to give it a shot (as I much prefer to buy local and touch/​feel what I am purchasing). However, that good feel quickly escaped when dealing with the folk (s) at this place. When I questioned a price being higher there, as compared to a reputable online retailer, they (both) quickly told me that I should go purchase it elsewhere and that I would get what I pay for, in so many words.
Bottom line: limited equipment, higher prices than you can find online, and very poor customer service. Don’t expect to feel welcome here … It’s unfortunate.
