Amador Ledger Dispatch

I love newspapers, well until I moved to Amador County. The reporters don’t seem to know the basics of journalistic writing: Who, what, when, where, why, and how. Don’t get me started on Jack Mitchell’s editorials. He is the worst, no integrity, no insight, just the ramblings of an alcoholic. Not worth the paper its printed on.

Unfortunately 2015 is starting off very poorly at the Ledger with a weak excuse and apology from publisher Mitchell for an inexcusable picture posting from facebook, comparing Hitler to Hillary, plus an Opinion page that is a disgrace once again. Hysterical Hillary haters are not rare here, sad to say, but that’s no excuse for plucking inappropriate nonsense off of facebook and printing it in the paper.
With no editor, since the one they had quit (in disgust I imagine) and with virtually no reporters to speak of and an advisory board that has quit also, it’s hard to see how it can improve. If you’re looking for a job in journalism and can work under a right wing tyrant, this could be your big chance! The staff is more skull than skeleton at this point, and is NOT as reflected on their web page.
It’s really very sad for Amador County. We want and we deserve so much better. There are a great many really good, smart, right thinking people over here, Amigos, no matter what impression you may glean from reading the Ledger. The image it projects is very concerning and detrimental I believe to the whole community.

Well typical of the brain dead, liberal bashing editor Jack Mitchell, who never ever fact checks, the 7÷26÷2013 edition contains another commentary by a right wing extremist. So simple to copy and print the current email circulating without fact checking. Below is link refuting current misinformation. Why do I even look at the paper? Because my old codger of a husband likes to look for local gossip inaccurate or not.

A friend posted a link to a Ledger Dispatch article about a missing woman and asked everyone to spread the word. I couldn’t even read the article without registering, which wouldn’t be a problem… although it’s a bit invasive to require a home address and phone number. I tried anyway, then received an email saying my registration would be reviewed before sending me a password. I gave up.
I get requiring registration with real information before posting comments, but to READ an article?
Guess what, jerks… the woman is dead. Not sure of the circumstances yet, but maybe you should let everyone read the important news, no? Maybe this sort of tragedy might be prevented in the future?

This newspaper is absolutely atrocious. I posted a comment on one of their stories regarding something that should not have even been news. They blasted a local law enforcement officer with his full name in the article. My comment was in good taste and I was removed from accessing the website, apparently for expressing my opinion. This is some hillbilly, small business garbage.

Every time I criticize the Ledger Dispatch on-​line by posting comments about one of their stories, they prevent me from logging on to their site. This has happened to me four times.
I find it hard to believe that a newspaper would respond to negative comments by preventing those comments from appearing on their web site.
I guess First Amendment rights have little meaning for the morons that run that rag.
As for the stories they publish, they lack detail and let the most obvious questions go unanswered (I call this the Ledger Dispatch’s Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy of news reporting).
