Arepa Franklin is my fave singer so it’s no surprise I love the Arepa Lady. I have a lot of R-E-S-P-E-C-T for her as you found out in my «Arepas Café» review. But I’m more into Venezuelan and Colombian women. They are able to «shake it like a salt shakira» and that really makes me corn. Speaking of corn. This place has some of the best Arepas you will ever eat! It tastes sweet, so be prepared for a sweet-savory meal. It totally works though. This is the original street cart. For the restaurant, please see the listing of «Arepa Lady 2» which is every bit as delicious, close to Jackson Heights Subway station, on Roosevelt. And if you hear the sound of Lil’ Kim or Nikki Minaj or Salt N Pepa, you’re in the wrong place. That’s «Arapper Lady.» What to get: Choclo Arepa with Chorizo What else: What I just said. Get it. Eat it Is it cheap: Mid-price street arepas, but so good. Is it healthy: Not at all, it’s a street Arepa, it’s greasy as f*** Is it worth it: It’s one of the best things I’ve ever put in my mouth, so yes What is Chorizo: It’s spicy Latin sausage, and this is one of the best latin sausages I’ve ever put in my mouth, like I said Did you swallow it: Yes obviously I did How was it: Well when I bit into it, it squirted hot juice into my mouth which made my eyes roll back because it was so warm and salty and gooey and amazing. I swallowed every drop Are you supposed to bite it: Yes, what else would you do with a sausage in your mouth? Swallow it whole? I dunno. That sounds painful: It wasn’t painful. Maybe it was painful for the sausage Maybe: Maybe Did you know that«Death» was actually female? I found out when I went to «Areaper Lady.» So I’ve been hearing about the Arepa Lady of Queens for many years. And I’m totally in love with Caracas Arepas(Manhattan and Brooklyn locations — La Surena), as well as Barocco(Cleveland — ropa vieja arepa), and the amazing Pabellon at Arepas Café, as well as Guacuco in Brooklyn too. I was delighted to learn that this Arepa Lady cart(which was a street cart, and one that was very hard to locate), now haw an actual store. This place is nothing like the other arepas at all. Those are healthy, manageable, moderately-sized Arepas which can be eaten without getting crazy-messy and wet and sticky and gooey(so to speak). Ebert’s partner in movie criticism is apparently a Playboy. I have met at least 100 women that claim to be a former flame of his. Just last night I was on a date with a girl that said she was«Aroeper Lady.» These Arepas, on the other hand, are more like Patacon Pisao, but better… as gooey and messy as Aretha herself, when she worked with George Michael on «I Knew You Were Waiting(For Me).» The chorizo is juicy and hot and crunchy and spicy and cooked to perfection. The gooey white cheese inside the arepa is heavenly. The corn is a little sweet and extremely sexy. It’s so good, that no words I could possibly write on this page would do justice to it. So simply get over here and try one. Order what I ordered. I kinda like girls that are serial killers. On dating websites it’s like«what kind of girl do you want» and I’m like«Aripper Lady.» And Garland added that if they served Army food, dished out by the aforementioned ripper lady, she’d be «Aration Lady» Be warned, it’s extremely greasy, messy, and hard to eat. It’s also enormously hugistical. Which means, bigger than Hugh Grand and Hugh Jackman combined. It’s as big as Hugh Jass. Well almost as big as Hugh Jass. And eating it will help you become more like Hugh Jass. I want to date one of Kelly Ripa’s sisters. I’ve always wanted«Aripa Lady.» Especially if she holds up banks. In which case she’ll also be «Arobber Lady.» And if she likes to holiday in the Caribbean. Then she can be my «Aruba Lady.» I’ll buy her a pair of sunglasses so she can be «Arayban Lady.» But no matter what, she can never make Choclo Arepas as delicious as these. Queens is full of absolutely incredible foods, from Jugos Prontito to Sammy’s Halal, from Ganesh Canteen to Xi’an in Flushing. But Arepa Lady is right up there. Top 10 in the borough. Top 20 in all of NYC. It’s just… that… delicious. It’s a little hard to find but it’s so worth it when you get there. Which is exactly what she said. And I didn’t have any trouble finding it by the way. Not this place, and not the other thing either. I can’t get a real girlfriend anyway. Hence I had to buy this polyurethane reinforced latex doll. I may not have a real lady. But at least I have«Arubber Lady.» And I’m finally getting married… to a girl from the Italian capital, who is also a gypsy. Which is awesome, because I always wanted to marry«A-roma lady.» She smells nice too, hence«Aroma.»

I will be back. Enjoyed the Chorizo Patacones. Might be hard to not order them again even though I haven’t tasted the namesake Arepas yet. The green garlic mayo is fantastic. Highly recommend!

We were glad to see the cart still going strong given the expansion to a B&M location(which we shamefully tried earlier), and ordered up every part of the menu they could understand, and loved every bite of it.

Whoa, definitely lives up to the hype and more. Thank goodness i run. Because now that I’ve discovered the joy of eating arepas made by this lady who looks like an auntie, I will need to run a lot more. You have to wait til after 10, but it is most definitely worth the wait. Hot, crispy, sweet, gooey melted cheese in the middle. Wayyyy better than the mozzarepas you get at street fairs. Those are the poor mans arepas. This is dining like a Columbian king(on the streets of jack heights. For $ 4, you will experience a foodgasm, compliments of the arepa lady.

I can’t believe I’ve waited this long to write a review. The food is a must. I’m from Colombian background and I must say they make BEST arepas I’ve tasted thus far. It reminds me of arepas from Cali, Colombia. The service is great and the staff is very professional and welcoming. I would recommend everyone to try the Arepa Lady.

Stopped in for a quick arepa on a food tour with Eat Your World! Decadent, buttery, cheesy simple goodness. Absolutely worth a stop when you’re in the neighborhood!

Awesomely delicious. If you’re a big fan of cheese, get the arepa con queso. It’s sweet from the pancakey arepa and salty from the perfectly cooked chicken I got. I had a piece of the arepa chocolo from my friends plate… she order it with sausage-Very happy! They offer 4 different sauces– personal faves: combining the hot sauce with the garlic sauce. Coming back for the patacones… real soon! Pros: food is yummy and the staff are super nice! Con: the portion sizes– even though I did get full off of one arepa, I’d still like to see a bigger portion, so I can grow more ya know.

Its nestled at 77th st closer to Roosevelt Ave heading north. I am Colombian and have very high expectations when it comes to fast food. We are known to mix and make some of the craziest combinations out there. The history lives on at Arepalady. Juices and arepas very well priced, quantity is on point, taste is on point. I will become a regular for lunch and snacks at this spot. You will not regret it. Oh and they take cards too, a lot of these places are cash only, not here!!!

OMG go here and get the arepa de choclo. Yummy, buttery ground-up corn topped with melted cheese… Slightly sweet, slightly salty, velvety texture in my mouth. For those uninitiated with the choclo: think of a very hearty stone-ground cornbread pancake(a lot to take in) topped with a mild cheese. They’re served with sauces, either a creamy orange one or a green salsa. You want the green salsa. Clearly I’m obsessed. I live 3 blocks away and it’s dangerous. They’re open super late in the evening and they’re always packed. It’s the original location, and call me biased but I think the arepas are better here. They have regular arepas here, but why would you want to have those when you could have choclo? Another crowd favorite are the chuzos, but that’s essentially a kebab with meat of your choice. Good, but better with choclo. If you live in the NY area(I’m looking at you, manhattanites) and you claim to love good and haven’t been here yet… Tsk tsk! I’ll give you subway fare. I’ll meet you here. Just do it, I doubt you’ll be disappointed!

You have not tasted arepas until you have eaten Arepa Lady’s arepas! Her Colombian arepas are extraordinary. If you are in Jackson Heights, definitely look for her cart or head to the restaurant. Actually if you aren’t in Jackson Heights, you should go there now just to eat one of these arepas! They are so very delicious, with melt-in-your-mouth buttery, cheesy goodness. She also has meat(on a stick) and potatoes if you are extra hungry.

The arepa con queso is really good when eaten fresh. However once all that cheese melts I think it loses some of its flavor, it’s still good, just not great. Glad to hear they opened a restaurant, now we don’t have to go searching for the cart.

I was a bit nervous because the Arepa Lady gets so much love that I was scared it was all just gonna be hype. I love arepas — those Venezuelan crunchy little filled pockets or even the Mozzarepas you find at every street fair in the city. But these arepas are like nothing else I’ve ever eaten! I was lucky enough to get to try her at her original cart in the daytime thanks to Jeff O’s Viva la Comida event. I got there early and as soon as I saw her cart, I got on line. Good thing too because when I turned around, the line was 15 deep! I ordered an arepa con queso and then stepped aside to patiently wait for it to be griddled to perfection. The ground white corn is griddled with shredded white cheese inside and basted with butter. When it’s done, it’s topped with a generous helping of crumbly cheese. I was going to add some hot sauce, but wanted to try it plain for my first time. It was delicious! I loved the crunchy exterior with the soft corn masa and cheesey insides. I can see how this would be perfect drunk food, since she’s normally only out on Fridays & Saturdays beginning at 10pm. But, I would want this whenever.(So glad that she now has a storefront!) Thanks, Arepa Lady! Best damn arepa I’ve ever had!

I finally was in the area after 10pm so was definitely looking to get the famous arepas. It took me awhile in the dark with couple of other food trucks in the area, but found the arepa lady. She is seemed very sweet and greeted me and my friend and we ordered the chocolos con queso. Even though her English and my Spanish wasn’t perfect, she understood our order. And once she began grilling up those chocolos and smothering them with some mantequilla and queso… the aroma was amazing! Sweet corn soaking up that butter and cheese… just plain goodness. I took a small bite and took the rest to go and ate it and was still delicious. This place is worth a visit if you are in the area. Great arepa fix!

Arepas like I not quite like I have ever had them. They are soft and supple with a neutral cheese and a slight sweetness. There is not a crust as I would expect from a savory arepa. The cheese on top adds a balancing of savory. A really delicious and different snack.

I am gonna go ahead and say it, she is a Jackson Heights icon! In the warmer months, on Fri and Sat, she sets up shop around 10pm till the early morning. Her cart really doesn’t have much, it’s 2 types of arepas and some chuzos aka shish kabobs. Rumor has it that she will open up a restaurant sometime in 2014. The food: arepa de choclo– These arepas are grilddled corn cakes cooked in margarine. They are kind like chewier pancakes folded in half with salty cheese in between. I prefer this arepa slightly over the arepa de queso. The arepa de choclo has a great texture and the salty cheese goes great. It’s a perfect late night munch. arepa de queso– this arepa is a thicker but smaller arepa. The chew on this arepa is different from the choclo. This arepa is a little denser and they add a salty crumbled cheese on top. Both are excellent, but I like the choclo a little more.

I had tried an arepa at the summer street fair in the city once and it wasn’t a good experience. The bf discovered Arepa Lady through Unilocal and had suggested that we should try. I hesitated at first, but I’m like you know what one more time wouldn’t hurt, I have nothing to lose. Long story short … been here countless times. Their arepas are to die for … I am hooked! I’ve tried both arepa con queso and arepa de choclo — I prefer arepa de choclo yet sometimes I order both to go. They are not here during the winter season, but definitely check out their Twitter page for updates.

I’ve been to Arepa Lady a good handful of times, at least 4 or 5. I didn’t know she had a Unilocal check-in. I feel as if street carts don’t get the same amount of respect, especially one out in Queens in a non-hipster neighborhood like Jackson Heights — much less when she’s located by a major Queens train-hub(74th and Roosevelt) and in a location next to several other trucks all pretty much serving any variation of Colombian, Ecuadorian or Mexican sweet and savory treats. When commuting here in the morning(or at night) the smells that waft and linger through the air are enough to make even some string-out, emaciated model waif want to scarf down everything in sight. This brings me back to Arepa Lady… a name she more than likely wouldn’t respond to as Spanish is her main language… Spanish and the language of delicious food making. I don’t even like Arepas that much… or I didn’t until I moved to Jackson Heights and met Roosevelt’s very own Arepa angel. Thank goodness that I don’t spend much time in this neighborhood or I’d look like a cow. A happy cheesey filled cow :). Gonna stop here and define what an arepa IS for those of you not in the know: An arepa is a flatbread made of ground corn dough or cooked flour, very prominent in the cuisine of Colombia and Venezuela. They usually contain cheese, vegetables or meats — but essentially you can put whatever you like in this amazing pickets of joy. I personally prefer the flour kind — but tradition calls for corn dough — both are delicious and not high on the nutritional or diet scale, but high on flavor and on my guilty pleasure list :). Arepa Lady makes two different types of arepas, cheese and chorizo(which is Colombian sausage and freakin’ DELICIOUS). She also sells chuzoz which are like a shish-kebab only more delish cuz they have more meat… most of the time I mean who DOESN’T like meat on a stick? Vegetarians, that’s who — but no worries! You can have amazingly gooey, buttery, cheese-filled arepas with crumbled tart cheese on top! Vegans not apply, you won’t be happy here. Tis’ what it tis’. Arepa Lady can’t make everyone happy. Cheap, delicious, well-made and authentic Latin treats. That’s what you can expect from Arepa Lady. Cinco estrellas!!! *****(5 stars).

Oh hot damn. So my boyfriend has been going here forever, apparently, and has been talking this place up for as long as I’ve known him. And you know what I’m thinking? This guy is nuts. A thing being sold off a cart in the middle of the night can’t be that good. Why do people make the trip? I’m sure you could find something just as good, closer to home, at a more reasonable time of the day. I know when to admit when I’m wrong, and this is one of those times. My god. These arepas are amazing. Crunchy on the outside, smooth and creamy on the inside, and topped with a heaping pile of cheese. It’s better than it sounds, even. I’m drooling… The only sad part is that I didn’t get to meet the arepa lady herself. She had gotten hurt and her kids were taking over. Get well soon, arepa lady! I’ll be back to meet you!

I wandered here in a sea of Unilocalers and chest hair after the Play Lounge event. As a person who would happily eat three meals a day off the street, I had heard of the arepa lady, but I had not met her, nor did I know what an arepa was. «Tengo que cambiar eso,» I thought to myself. There was already a small line when we got there. The arepa lady spoke to none of them. We showed up in a group of five. The arepa lady did not turn around. Finally, when about 30 people were surrounding the cart, asking no one in particular how one would order, we heard a shout from within the masses — ¿qué quieren? I felt like I was on a trading floor as I yelled out my order. The arepa de queso is small, thick pancake, covered in semi-melted cheese. The arepa de choclo is made with choclo(an Andean corn) and folded over like a crêpe with salty cheese. They also have kebabs and some small, dumpling-like things. I went with the arepa de queso. Arepa was banging. There’s a saltiness to the cheese, but the dough is sweet. It’s thick, but airy. It was awesome and totally unexpected. Why not five stars? It was fun ordering in Spanish, but a little English would help, especially with a huge crowd. Similarly, the women there that night were not people-people in the way that many other cart vendors are. All that said, these were definitely amazing. Everyone says she’s on Twitter, but she actually updates her MySpace often also. Her MySpace! I’m going to start tracking the waffle truck on Prodigy.
