Description

Specialties

We feature local sustainably raised old-world style charcuterie made from pigs from our own farm in Trumansburg NY. With a production facility right on the farm, we can offer the absolute freshest meat at our shop — everything we sell is fresh and never frozen. We also now have chicken, duck, beef, and other meats from fellow local farmers.

History

Established in 2010.

The owners of The Piggery, a sustainable pastured pig farm, Heather Sandford and Brad Marshall, purchased the drive thru coffee shop, Buzz Coffee, in the Franklin Marketplace across from The Ithaca Farmers’ Market on Route 13 in May 2010. As weekly vendors of The Ithaca Farmer’s Market, it seemed that opening a small retail presence in that part of Ithaca would make the most sense. Not finding any rentable space, they noticed that Buzz Coffee was for sale. Sandford and Marshall looked at the business and thought it would be a good fit for their local meats counter and deli idea. Having lived in New York City, they knew that meat, deli & coffee combination shops worked there, so they hoped to make it work in Ithaca too. After a few years running everything at once, they finally are only concentrating on being a source of local meats butchery, charcuterie, and locally made goods like jams, apple butters, and mustards.
