Crystal’s Spa & Salon

Crystal is the best with my curly hair! Highly recommend! I brought her pictures and she replicated the cut I wanted while adjusting it to match the reality of what my hair does. I always come to her when I visit ithaca.

I have gotten my hair cut a few times here is the past year because I go to school in Ithaca and can’t get to my regular salon frequently enough. Overall, I am satisfied with my experience with the salon. I have a very basic haircut, I have long straight hair and just some layers at the end, so I can’t speak about the full range of skills they have.
I like the location, it’s in a converted house which is cute and the interior is well kept. A huge bonus after my first appointment was that the part time massage therapist offered me a free five minute shoulder rub after my appointment!
I kept this to three stars because they charge for blow drying, a practice I have only ever seen in Spain. I also tried to get my eyelash extensions filled once and was initially really excited about the low cost of fills. They turned out to be very chunky, gross looking clumps of lashes that were loosely glued in groups of three that fell off within just a few days. It was much cheaper for a reason and I would not recommend that service.
However, my friend and I both had our eyebrows waxed there and we were satisfied with the results. The clinicians paid attention to our specifications and were detail oriented. I will continue going to Crystal’s while I’m in Ithaca.

I go to Crystal because she’s Deva curl trained and does a really nice job with my corkscrew curls. She knows to cut it dry, doesn’t use a blowdryer, etc. I really appreciate that she takes the time to learn all the latest on curly hair because I really think it makes a difference. It always ends up just a little bit shorter than I want it though. Once time they tried to push some kind of treatment and that made me uncomfortable. I also appreciate that they stock Deva curl products, but everytime I go out there it seems like they are out of what I need. I had a mani-​pedi once and it was ok but not fantastic and it took forever.

I’m feeling a bit generous with 3 stars – but two felt a little harsh! I got my wedding hair done here and honestly LOVED it – got so many compliments on it and it stayed all night and so I couldn’t be more happy about my personal hair experience. I think I had Jessica. My bridal party however had mixed reviews… a couple of the girls at the salon didn’t seem to listen to what they wanted really, or didn’t seem to have the skills to make the requests happen. My MOH had Jessica too, and loved her hair. So I guess Jessica is really the plus of the place. and the prices… that’s why I went there. For a large group it is more affordable if you’re paying for them, but you sacrifice the feeling of a nicer salon and you can tell that a lot of the people aren’t as experienced.
