Eaglewood Resort and Spa

This place was and is a huge disappointment; one that requires a lengthy description of just how bad it was. I bought a Groupon for a winter spa getaway. Even upgraded to the Junior Suite. The room was nice with two exceptions — first and foremost, the bed was horrible; hard as a rock. We both left after two nights with sore backs, which is ironic since we went there to soothe aching muscles, not make them worse. Second, the heat was erratic; some spots in the 2 room suite were warm while others were ice cold. The temperature in the room was nowhere close to what the thermostat said.
Now the bigger problem; there were no available spa appointments besides a facial. NO MASSAGE! They only had 2 or 3 massage therapists working in a 3 day weekend (MLK day) and even closed at 2 on Sunday. The entire purpose for our trip was eliminated. So we figured we’d work out in their highly touted workout facilities. While they have lots of treadmills and a few other cardio type machines, they had no weights aside from a set of Dumbbells and one sorry looking multi-​machine that was located in another building alone with a few treadmills. Granted, they have a nice pool and even a bowling alley, but that was so packed with families with kids that we passed.
In addition, aside from the «spa» disappointment, the «resort» disappointment was equally bad. They had only one of two restaurants open, and the food was what it was — golf course bar food. Terrible. The nicer restaurant was closed. WTF??? The bar may have been open for an hour or two. The staff was lackluster and appeared bored to death (except for the bellman who was always nice).
In summary, this place was terrible. I wasted roughly $ 450 for a spa weekend treat for a friend and was not only disappointed, but embarrassed by the epic failure it turned out to be. I gave it one star because the option for zero stars doesn’t exist.

So 3 of my girlfriends and I decided we needed a one night get a way. We found a groupon for $ 100.00 and figured what the hell. Give it a try. When we walked in this place was amazing! The young lady at the counter was extremely kind and on top of her game and we were greeted immediately upon walking in. I seriously felt as though we were in an upscale environment. We decided to have an early dinner at 3pm. The bar was dead but perfect for us. The bartender was legit amazing! Every drink came out perfect and the 36.00 steak I ordered was insanely delicious! My lunch meal ended up being around 70.00 after tip and drinks. I was quite fine with this as service was outstanding. Greeted right away and never an empty cup. We then enjoyed the hot tub/​pool area. Not bad either. Cold to walk to it but worth it! Very clean. Also another very nice employee working the desk over there. Later in the evening we decided to try the bowling alley. When we walked in some type of party must have been going on because no one was at the bar for us to order a drink and all of the lanes were taken. We were not greeted at all. Awkwardly we decided to go back to the restaurant bar we had lunch dinner at. This is where things became disappointing. As we walked in now with a group of 6 girls we were not greeted or seated. This place was empty other then 3 tables seated and one table seated in the bar. So we chose a spot. The bartender didn’t seem to care we were there and actually seemed more annoyed as he was walking around. He never came to our table. I went to the bar to ask for a menu. Seeing our table of 6 he gave me 1 menu. We decided on some drinks and snacks. We had to walk to the bar to order. Once again seemed more of a bother then anything to him. He was actually rude to the other girls upon ordering. Needless to say I made sure that drink was all I had.
This hotel is amazing! The staff minus the evening restaurant bar staff are all up to par on their game and impressive! We will definitely be back. We will just avoid the bar/​restaurant in the evening and eat out or drink else where instead.

We used Eaglewood as our venue for both our wedding ceremony and reception and couldn’t be happier with the result. Michelle Mazza who is the wedding coordinator there went above and beyond. She was always prompt with replies, very thorough, and thought of absolutely everything. She really is who someone hopes to have when it comes to planning their wedding. Mike, who was there the day of was incredible as well. There was no detail too small that they didn’t perfect. Our guests raved about the food, the room (we had our wedding in the Red Oak Ballroom), and the entire resort. If you want a wedding venue where your guests feel comfortable and you truly feel like the most important person on your wedding day then you should definitely look at Eaglewood.

We stayed here for a corporate family team event, meant for the employees to relax, and enjoy a night away. Well, the following morning my husband and I went out to our cars, which had both been broken into, and the thieves stole about $ 600 worth of stuff. The front desk staff lied to us and told us that this sort of thing hadn’t happened in 2 years, even though a fellow employee, heard another guest complaining they too had been broken into. Plus, they have a sign, at the front of the lobby, which warns the hotel aren’t responsible for stolen merchandise taken from your car. Also, the Itasca police told us they believed the hotel was upgrading their security system… How would a police officer know this, unless more thefts hadn’t already taken place? The front desk staff were completely unconcerned, offered no assistance, other than to call the Itasca police, and had NO idea whether there were security cameras or not. I work in customer service, and it is customary to compensate your patrons when you are grossly inconvenienced, not to mention robbed, and they offered to do NOTHING! Do not stay here… we have stayed many times at Grand Geneva, in Lake Geneva… nicer hotel, better staff, and guess what… NO THIEVES!!! I guess we’re lucky nobody was attacked, or harmed. But, I would never consider bringing my family to this hotel ever again.

I have stayed here and enjoyed my stay here before however this review is for all the brides looking to have your wedding here. I would not recommend it. My best friend and I have been shopping for venues together because we both have a significant amount of guests coming in from out of town so we’re both looking for the same thing. Somewhere to have the ceremony and reception all in one place and for a nice hotel for our guests to stay. When we stopped by to see the wedding spaces the man giving us the tour clearly did not take us serious. We never gave him a number but for some reason he knew the grand ballroom was out of our price point and would not show it to us. Just the walk with him left such bad taste in our mouths we will not be back. Such a pity because the place is beautiful but you don’t want a rude coordinator dealing with your wedding.

Conference Venue — 4.5 stars
The setting is just lovely — nestled in the near O’Hare — Who knew? I don’t golf, but the course was beautiful and those heading out to play seemed excited. I did not get to try the spa during my business stay, but again those who did seemed happy.
The venue is terrific for a conference or company meeting of say 200 – 500 people (they can maybe handle more — I don’t pretend to know capacity!) There are a wide variety of rooms from boardroom style to classroom to full ballroom. There are also little «snack nooks» (they probably have a better name for them) where participants can get beverages and snacks throughout the day. The staff (catering, janitorial, IT, etc) were very accommodating. They did run out of TP in ladies room in the stalls nearest the door. It was a HUGE ladies room, but we all know the stalls don’t get used evenly. Sorry if that’s TMI for anyone
The restaurant did a pretty good job of moving a LOT of people quickly through buffets, and there were many options at every meal. Personally I wish the beverages were also self-​serve, because the waitstaff was not able to keep everyone’s glasses full in my experience.
The resort was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, I understand, and the «bones» are beautiful. They were doing some major renovations/​renewal while I was there— so I’m hoping they restore it to Frank’s vision.
The hotel itself— meh. Pretty ordinary, a little damp/​mildew-​ish. My AC unit had an enthusiastic fan, but seemed unable to remove the humidity from the air. The rooms have great balconies — you cannot see the adjoining guest rooms because of angles — but while some had chairs on them, mine did not. So not as nice as it could have been to enjoy the view.
A personal pet peeve — craptastic hair dryer. We all assume hotels will have dryers these days — but if I wanted a crappy, 1500W travel dryer, I would have brought my own. It was one of those that’s designed like a jet engine for massive AIR but no focus or heat. yeah — spend the $ 20 a room and put a nice blow dryer in the bathroom, please.
So not much to differentiate as a hotel per se… but as a destination for business meeting and/​or a little spa and golf action, it’s a win.

My husband and I had a lovely stay at this resort. The rooms were updated, clean, and nicely designed (as were the common areas). The staff was very helpful and friendly. We had a pretty standard breakfast buffet and a lot of fun with friends downstairs at the bar. We had a lovely gold course view from our room.
The only drawback is that the layout of the resort is a bit confusing. We didn’t get lost ourselves, but some of our friends did complain.
Highly recommend for a quiet and relaxing stay.

I had one day off of work this week and kids are on Spring break. Decided on going to a hotel since weather is horrible. I was attracted to the family package: cosmic bowling, pizza, pitcher of pop, dive in movie all included.
Pop experience: tried pepsi, Sierra mist, lemonade. All had no taste. Must have been out of syrup.
Unclear on times things were open. I had conflicting answers on when the pool closed so we went with bowling first. Pool closed at 9:00 pm. Never got to go last night, decided to go this morning. Finally made our way over there: swam for 20 minutes. Pool closed because of lightening. Why do you have a detached pool with a metal roof ???
Only other complaint was how very far it was to walk everywhere.
Staff was exceptional, breakfast was amazing.

We chose Eaglewood for our wedding preparation and post-​reception destination. I came here as a kid when it was called Nordic Hills. Judging by the tower exterior (the façade is being repaired), it appears as though major renovations are afoot. Our penthouse suite was surrounded by cables and pulleys. That being said, the interior of the penthouse was comfortable, however, the kitchenette/​bar area needs a sink. We also had rooms in the first tower which are in need of major updates. Wallpaper is peeling at the top of the wall and the outdoor decks are crumbling. Spectacular views of the golf course make up for it. The lobby and conference rooms appear to be of newer construction compared to the towers where the rooms are located.
As far as amenities, you have to walk outside to access the fitness center, pool and bowling alley. The pool/​steam/​sauna/​hot tub is terrific. The fitness center is 90% cardio. There is an unused «walleyball» room next door which appears to be a perfect candidate for a weight room. The bowling alley/​bar is also part of this complex. Very nice, but bowling should be complimentary or at least discounted during non-​peak hours/​days. I have yet to see anyone using it. There is a rather small main lobby bar which was not open during our stay and another bar in the basement which is somewhat hidden if you didn’t think to ask. There is no restaurant on premises other than casual dining in the basement.
For the price ($ 99 on Kayak) you can’t ask for much more than this. Parking is ample and it is conveniently located off I-​290. Not a bad option for a cheap family getaway in the winter months.

We stayed for New Year’s Eve and paid for the adult package. The cost was reasonable for the area although the amenity fee is a joke for services that should be provided when you stay in a resort. When checking in the lines were short and after hearing a mother screaming at her children in the lobby about walking from the pool to the hotel in the cold with wet hair (you have to walk outside across the parking lot to the pool and fitness area) we jokingly asked the very friendly front desk attendant if we could have a room away from children. He actually tried to accommodate us and gave us a room on the top floor of the South Tower although the children next door were up at 8:00 AM the next morning. Good things about our stay: The room was fairly nice and very clean, the bed was firm but comfortable, the bath was acceptable, lots of towels, liked the robe. We bought two beers sitting at the bar in the lobby, $ 5.50 each, reasonable. The open bar began at 6:30 and included higher end beers not just cheap ones. The appetizers were sparse but ok. Dancing was fun and the band was excellent.
Cons: No heat in the hallways from the lobby to the towers and outside of the rooms meant freezing while walking to and fro in evening dress (can’t imagine being wet after swimming). The food during the New Years Dinner was dry and tasteless hotel banquet food. After a nice night we went at 11:30 AM for the breakfast included in the package only to find they couldn’t seat us for at least 45 minutes to an hour. Now in emails I had asked if we should have a reservation for breakfast and was told they don’t take reservations. So in one restaurant they tried to squeeze in all adult package guests along with the family package guests with no assigned times to space them out. Dining stopped at 1:00 and we would have had no time to eat. The front desk attendant assured me after checking with a manager that we would be refunded $ 41.00 for the cost of the breakfast so we checked out and ate elsewhere. We have been instead charged that amount in an additional unauthorized charge after we left.
This is a nice place but not a place for a busy New Year’s stay.

New years eve party for families was a joke. Instead of a New years eve party in a ballroom, the hotel put families with children in their pub. Very disappointed with their family new years. Definitely will not be back even for a round of golf!

One of the best venues I have worked with for formal events in their ballroom. Large tall space, well lit, power everywhere which is perfect for uplighting, and great people. I have never been given ribs to try as a vendor before a wedding and they were fantastic.
If you want a good time with a good DJ service that works with the venue and gives your guests a good time, this is the perfect place everyone will enjoy.
The chef is amazing.

Incredibly outdated rooms for an «upscale» hotel. Same beds/​décor you might find in a extended stay. Rooms smell like cheap cleaning solutions. Very unimpressed. Room service foods are all very heavy options. Pics attached.

To start my review, I must note that I was here for a student council conference, which changes many parts of the review.
The staff is always incredibly friendly and welcoming, even to our kids which is very important to me. The room we had was spacious and clean, and the other rooms I saw were as well. We also used a hospitality suite for a advisor meeting, and it was the perfect size.
We also ate several meals at the convention, served in the banquet hall. All of the dishes were delicious, we had plenty of food, and plenty of options. The kids were all very happy– even though they can sometimes be a tough crowd.
I’m not sure I would choose this resort for a personal trip, but it was a great facility for a business or school based convention.

I’ve stayed here now and I’ll be back again late Spring (friends in the area makes this a central location for all), although if I was the decision maker I would not return.
This is a very odd property. You check in in a very nice way and it was pretty easy, although I saw some lines at other times. From the check in they take you to your room, which is in one of the towers. There are two, but you have to go through the first to get to the second. And then take an elevator. All with your luggage. And this is not nearby. No area to park closer to the rooms so that could be a hassle if you have a lot to carry. Or children.
The rooms are pretty spacious. And they have a robe in the room which is supertastic. The bathrooms are nice and have good water pressure. The tubs are a little slick so be careful. Reasonable towels supplied. Small safe in the room was nice.
The balcony is a nice touch but the views I saw (3 rooms) were yucky. Which is too bad. The heating is not equally effective or predictable so the room went from too hot to too cold an back again.
The beds are AWFUL. The staff/​mgmt need to spend a night in one of the rooms and they will understand. Mattresses are from the 1970 I think with no mattress covers. So hard and uncomfortable.
The spa /​gym is nice. New. Sleek. Great equipment. The pool is ok, no deep end but easy in and out stairs. Nice hot tub, sauna and steam room. The locker rooms there were nice as well. Plenty of towels.
I did not use the massage services here, see below reviews for why. The feedback on them varied from other guests I spoke to. Some very happy, others not as thrilled.
Parking lot is good, and very well plowed this very snowy winter. The whole area is well lit.

4 stars for location, they are a secluded property just a stones throw from real shopping and other places to eat. Very well done there.

3 stars overall (rounded up), but I cannot understand how the AAA gives this place 4 stars. I don’t know what they are rating on.

In search of a luxury resort to stay at for my honeymoon, I stopped by Eaglewood for a peek at their suites. I can’t say there is anything special about this hotel and for the cost, there should be. If you are going to spend upwards of $ 300 a night for a deluxe room, Jr suite, or rooftop suite, go to the city (or check out the Herrington like we did in downtown Geneva, IL). I can’t imagine why anyone would spend this kind of money for anything short of excellence.
I must say that the customer service was pleasant enough however; I was promptly helped and taken on a tour. I’ve been to the resort before and so the inside was largely familiar minus the significant renovations made to the lobby since my last visit. Note that the lobby was renovated, everything else looks the same as it ever was. The suites: I’m trying my hardest not to compare to the Herrington… the furnishings seemed anything but warm to me; actually the word stiff comes to mind. The view, meh. I don’t see what’s so enchanting about a golf course but I suppose that can’t be helped. The bed wasn’t even close to as comfortable as the Herrington’s. Oops, sorry there I go. The bathroom was mediocre and the amenities were pretty sad. I mean who considers Wifi to be an amenity? McDonalds has Wifi.
Something worth mentioning is that Eaglewood supports our troops. Discounts! Happy Veterans Day! Anyways, I wouldn’t make any reservations here personally, but if you aren’t a picky jerk like I am, enjoy your stay.

I’ve only been here once, and most likely, never have a reason to be here again. My friend got married here and had her reception here, last week. So, my review is really only for the reception piece of this place.
I had a GREAT time at the reception. It was probably because of the group I was with and the most awesome DJ ever, but I think the food & drink played into it too, which was the brides doing, sort of.
The space for the recepiton was nice. One wall was all glass, with a great view. It helped that it was raining like a mo’fo, so it was super dramatic. I didn’t get to check out their bathrooms, because I refused to wiggle out of my spanx, but I hope they were lovely.
The bride made her food into action cooking stations. One in each corner of the room. There was a pasta station, a shrimp scampi station, a carving station, and a dessert station. The set up was fabulous and the food was awesome. It was way better than family style crap that you usually get at a wedding.
Overall, the place was nice. KInd of tucked in the middle of a suburban neighborhood. Unless someone else decides to get married and have their reception here, I won’t be back. But the place was cool.

This review is only for Mother’s Day Bruncyh.
This was our first time eating here. Mother’s day bunch was $ 32 per person. In the eating area you had the scenary of their golf course which was nice. It was kind of a smaller area, I wished it was in their banquet room since after all it’s Mother’s day not a day at the golf course.
They servered hand carved prime rib which was the best that they served. I liked my medium rare and they provided that. Other items I liked were the buttered asparagus, kiddies mini hamburgers and for dessert, Pecan pie.
Wish they had more seafood like shrimp cocktail, they also needed more selection of fresh fruit, and ice cream.
The service was slow, I hate asking for more water or Oj.
Overall, it was OK. It was nothing special that I would take my mom back here again.
I’ll have to try and spend the day here, maybe their actual menu items might be better than their brunch buffet.

I must say if you are going to be stuck out in the suburbs of Chicago this place is Ok. By ok I mean the sleeping rooms are fine and the meeting rooms serve their purpose. The gym is good but could use some updated equipment and more of it. The hours should be different, say… 24 hours because if folks are here for meetings, it’s hard to work out between the select hours of 6A — 9P and often quite busy right at 6A. My suggestion would be to consider expanding these hours.
The food however was mainly unacceptable on my terms. I’m glad I packed several of my go to trader joes items because this stuff and it’s presentation is just plain awful. A few coworkers of mine had mentioned they hadn’t seen me eat in days, well that’s because I missed breakfast each morning (which may have been ok) and I could only eat the green beans and sauteed spinach on two separate lunch occasions. I’m pretty sure this stuff is pumped with corn starch and it’s served buffet/​cafteria style which is my least fav style of dining.
The snacks provided on a much smaller scale throughout the day, outside of the meeting rooms were ok. The coffee was fine, the fruit was good and they had celery sticks which were also good. Oh! and their mini pretzel bites were sooo fresh and tasty!
But if you are health conscious be advised before attending meetings here that you should pack accordingly because this stuff is not healthy!
The lobby and downstairs bar are both fine.
The bowling alley is small but should be wheelchair accessible in all areas as I noticed one of my colleagues had to hang back a bit.
And the service is very friendly from the front desk, to the bell desk.
Some reviews mention a long walk from sleeping rooms to the conference center — honestly, this is very short and I was in the furthest area — unless you are not used to walking anywhere you should be able to get to any place in this hotel with a couple of minutes and that was me in 4inch heels power walking.

I was here for a vegetarian/​vegan wedding in December 2011 and stayed the night. The price was not bad and their military discounts were better than their seasonal promotions (so use it if you can).
The ambiance of the lobby in the hotel looks like a snow resort with all the wood and brick work. The room was somewhat clean. I washed my feet in the tub and I saw hair or thin floss floating. The tub looked stained as well. A plus about the bathroom though was the vanity mirror.
During cocktail hour the food was not good. In fact, it was nasty. The food at the reception was good though. Their red pepper soup was delicious. There were two options for entrees — one with fish and one without (veggies only), but both dairy free.
With the discount, we got free breakfast in the morning which is a buffet located near the lobby area. There were many options, however the food that should be hot was cold, the eggs were dry, and the french toast was stale. On the plus side, waitress at the buffet was kind and provided satisfactory service.
Also, the hotel’s coffee has a very bitter taste. Do not drink it no matter what time of day it is.
