Port City Moped is a certified Motorcycle dealer selling & servicing 49cc-300cc scooters.

History

Established in 2012.

The idea came to Jordan after learning about his great grandfather who owned the first Schwinn bicycle dealership in the city of Charleston, Brauer’s Bike & Hobby. The shop opened in 1912 and was located where the College of Charleston Bookstore is now. Brauer’s Bike & Hobby rented bicycles to sailors with a motor attached to them. The shop closed but after collaborating with Dave, Port City Moped LLC was formed and will serve the low country as its premier scooter rental and sales company.

Dave and Jordan C.

Business Owner

Jordan Chaplin was born and raised on James Island, SC and has been living in Downtown Charleston for the past 4 years. Being a Lowcountry native and a 2011 graduate from the College of Charleston, Jordan knows the local area like the back of his hand. Jordan first met his business partner, Dave Jarman, while working together at Enterprise Rent-a-Car. He plans on passing on all of his knowledge about the city to his customers and show them why they should always come back to Port City Moped.

Dave Jarman was born in Toronto, Ontario, He made the move to the states in 2006 where he accepted a hockey scholarship to play at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT. After graduating in 2010 he landed a position with Enterprise Rent-a-Car, where he met his business partner, Jordan. In 2011 Dave tied the knot with his wife and currently lives in Mount Pleasant, SC. After a life of living in skates, he always dreamt of starting his own business just like his grandfather and father.

My family rented mopeds to cruise the islands from Port City, we had an awesome time! The owner is super cool, gave us a lesson before we hopped on the bikes to make sure we were comfortable. It was so fun checking out Sullivan’s islands and isle of palms in our moped gang! I’d definitely recommend renting from them.

I had a great experience with both buying my Genuine Roughhouse and any service received through Port City Moped. Jordan is extremely fair and accommodating! I had parts ordered just recently through him and he saved me around $ 100.00 in parts and labor costs. Not only that, he allowed me to use one of his Honda Rukus’s for a week for no cost at all while we waited to receive the parts I needed to complete a project on the bike. His mechanic is hands down the most experienced mechanic in the Low Country. Thanks a lot guys for all your help!

Yes this is THE Place to rent for island fun — But they are so much more!!! Jordan & Dave are knowledge and friendly and their service deptartment is fast and reasonable I plan to upgrade my current moped, which is my sole means of transportation by choice, and I wouldn’t consider a purchase anywhere else!

Amazing experience.
We had a group of 7 people who were all new to mopeds and felt like giving it a try during our vacation. The stores staff were very friendly and inviting. We also did not know the area at all so were told of some places to check out by the staff.
There is a short training available if you have never rode before which was perfect. It wasn’t too long and over-bearing. Just a short 5 minute guide and you’re ready to roll.
I would definitely go here again if I am in the area.

RENT FROM HERE. This place is ridiculously good. The owner is really friendly and helpful. We stopped by on Saturday trying to rent 3 mopeds, but they were expecting a larger group and didn’t have enough available. They got our name and number in case the group didn’t show up, but after talking with the guy for a little, he let us book mopeds for Sunday, even though they’d ordinarily be closed. He let us pick out the mopeds we liked (they have a hot pink one!) and then gave us all a little easy-to-follow training session, and he was very encouraging!
We went out on our two hour ride, and on the last half hour, it started POURING rain. When we got back, he offered us his bathroom to change in, some plastic bags to put our wet clothes, and an umbrella to run back and forth from our cars under. Where else can you get that kind of service for reasonable prices? The ride itself was really awesome, too. The owner gave us some recommendations on places to check out, and the area around the rental place is really moped-friendly. It is definitely a MUST-DO experience in Charleston!

We loved our moped experience! We originally rented two single mopeds but after a trial run, we had to switch out for one double (due to my personal failures maneuvering turns). This was super easy and they were understanding.
It was so fun to go exploring on our «hog»! And as an added bonus I got a coupon through Unilocal **awesome**. This was a great way to spend our last day on the Isle of palms. I highly recommend!!!

The store is nice enough, and I am sure they are great for rentals. However, the parts they have sold us for our moped have repeatedly failed, disintegrated even, and they refuse to help make it right, without price gouging. Don’t ever go here for maintenance issues, unless you enjoy being overcharged and condescended. Very disappointing. We will be taking our business elsewhere from now on.

There are few places that compare with the guys from Port City Moped ability to provide service to their customer’s needs. These guys went well beyond to solve my problems getting my scooter running. I had looked all over the Charleston area for someone who could help me with my Linhai Chinese scooter. Jordan and Dave never even blinked and were able garner the resources needed to get my bike running again. They have the highest recommendation I could give. Love these guys! Jordan is awesome and accommodating, we tried to rent scooters this past weekend and they were slammed but we still got to ride. We’ve rented mopeds here three times this month and each time was a pleasure. The guys are nice, they have helmets for you to wear, the mopeds come gassed up with a full tank which is more than enough for a couple hours. I wish them the best in business, they definitely deserve it! I’m happy to live in Mt P and have Port City available when we have visitors come in town to show them Sullivan’s and IOP from the scoot.

This place is great!!!
One of the best ways to enjoy and sightsee the islands.
The owners are friendly, knowledgable and put safety first. Their line of mopeds are first-class. I have been there several times and always leave with a sense of not being able to wait until the next free afternoon/weekend when I can get back.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS! Awesome new business! It was my first time on a moped and I absolutely loved it! What a fun way to get around!!! I only rented for the afternoon but if I was going to spend more time in the area on vacation, I would highly recommend renting for a week at a time so that I could cruise around the island like a local. It was so easy to park at the beach and at the restaurant we ate at where all the parking was packed.

These guys were fantastic! We each rented a Honda Ruckus, which was an awesome, fun scooter to ride. I emailed them, inquiring about scooter rentals, and they emailed me back immediately. We were able to come down and check out the scooters and be on our way really quickly.
The owners were really great and gave us recommendations for local places to check out.
The scooters were in perfect condition and a blast to ride around the islands. My husband and I were here for a large family event, and we didn’t have our own car, so these were a great option for getting away for a bit to do our own thing. Also, parking on Sullivan Island can be a nightmare with a car, but it was a breeze with the scooters.
Highly recommend these guys; they were extremely friendly and helpful and it made our trip here that much more fun!

Such a great way to travel around IOP and Sullivan’s Island. A friend and I rented two mopeds for 2 – 4 hours (you can also rent for an hour or half a day). The prices were reasonable and both owners were on site. They were professional and friendly, and showed us novices how to properly operate both mopeds. Great fleet of mopeds and they also offer beach games, umbrellas, coolers, etc. I highly recommend using Port City whether you are a local looking for a great time or an out of towner looking for a fun way to tour the islands!

The customer service was amazing both of the owners are young and very kind. They answered all of my questions and my husband and I had a great time cruising around IOP for hours on the mopeds.
