The Produce Place

I hadn’t been there in a while. It seems I got a little attitude because of it. It is a dying business. The place used to be full of stands with fruit and fresh juice and salsa in the refrigerator. Now it has less then have of what they used to offer. That wasn’t what upset me. I order a raspado and a Bag of chips– paid with my atm — a couple of days later while cleaning out my wallet I came across the receipt. They had charged me about double of what I should have paid– according to their price list– check your receipt before leaving this place– they lost me as a customer.

Love this place. The owners are extremely friendly and welcoming. My go to drink is the respado when I’m in need of a refreshment. My flavor of choice is vanilla and strawberry. So yummy!!!

Charlie and Betty are sweet people, and their smoothies are consistently delicious. I watched Charlie give a bowl of fruit to a homeless man today. That sort of thing is a rarity and a beautiful thing.

Love this place been going here a while now, really comes in handy when I need something good to eat or drink. Must try place great fruits and veggies. I love their oj. 10 out of 10 it’s small but they have everything you need and make you feel comfortable.

My friend and I from work have come here a couple times and let me just say NOTHING SHORT OF AMAZING the sandwiches are awesome the chamangos are so delicious and their salsa verde ooooo wow! We love this place can’t wait to try everything

I have been coming to this place for over 25 years, since before there was even a building and it was all an out door market! I keep coming because of the great service the owner provides and his warm welcoming. great family ran business and so happy to see it still going strong (:

I’m not one to complain and give bad reviews but I initially really loved this place… went there quite often, then today I was in a hurry to
Get to work so I called to see if I can order my smoothie to be picked up without having to wait, the lady answers the phone acts like she doesn’t speak English and says there’s no one there that does either so I continue to tell her I just want a large strawberry mango smoothie (surprise surprise she understood that though) then I show up and she’s the same one I see all the time she does speak English and the owner was there as well who speaks English. Then I taste the smoothie and this is the 2^nd time she only put strawberries so with that being said I feel disrespected/​lied to and they won’t be getting any more of my money ever again. Very poor customer service very disappointed.

My mom used to stop here when she’d pick me and my bro up from school. Best after school snack. They have the freshest bionicos, jugos, and raspados. Charlie is so friendly and he has his whole family working there. Gotta love family run businesses.

Nice, clean little store. They make everything fresh! I had a Chamango which was DELICIOUS, hit the spot for sweet and spicy. Would definitely come back and recommend it to everyone.

This owner is one of the most personable and kind hearted man… Great juice, great fruit, great samples, great salsas && most of all reasonably priced

A friend mentioned that this was a good place to get a tamarindo apple, so I stopped by.
Really small place, relatively small area, and expensive for that it was. Customer service was slow, I was in there for almost ten minutes.
The guy there seemed really personable, though. He had us try the white peaches, and a yellow nectarine while we waited. They were some of the most deliciously ripe pieces I’ve ever had, reminded me of the fruit I used to get in central California almost a decade ago.
One odd thing: there where some friends of the shop in, what looked to be transients. One of them made repeated trips to the kitchen area, and to the back. Not really something that I would consider appropriate.
This really seems like I don’t like The Produce Palace, but I truly do; it’s just the boutique prices for what is essentially a DTLA produce shack.

So I work as an EMT and my station is about a 3 minute walk to this place. I have to say the freshly pressed juices are oh so good!
The owner is a delight and he expresses his passion for juicing every time we go in. I also have had the tortas, which can prepared many ways. They are delicious and with a juice on the side makes for a perfect lunch. I had the vampiro juice, which is a deep red due to the beets they use in the mix. Anyway, go there if your trying to get healthy and want to start your day off right!
Con: place is a little unkept.
Pro:fresh veggies and fruits, and the ceviche is also bomb!

We were driving by the shop, when my girlfriend noticed the «Chimango» sign out front. She had long been wanting to find a place that made a good chimoy apple, so I circled the block and in we went.
We looked at the board, were highly impressed and placed our order for the Chimango. As the drink was being prepared, we got to talking with Charlie. He was so nice and really knew his stuff. We talked about the chimoy apple and how it was one of her favorites. He said, no problem, we can do that for you! Really?! Awesome! And it was! The drink and apple were amazing! Charlie obviously takes pride in his shop, heritage and city. We ended up talking to him for about 20 mins! In that amount of time, we discussed many things included other drinks he offered. He even made us a couple of samples of the strawberry and pineapple fruit juices. They were incredible too!
Great guy, great shop! That was last weekend. We’re on our way back today! I highly recommend you swing by too!

Stopped by after seeing this place on Unilocal and it did not disappoint.
In case you don’t know, the chamango ($ 5) has mango, tamarind, lime, chili powder (plus other stuff, I’m sure), and is served with a tamarind candy stick. It’s a blend of sweet, tangy, spicy, and just overall deliciousness. If you like tamarind, you’ll definitely like this. I got a mango and pineapple raspado ($ 3.50), which is basically like rough shaved ice with more liquid. They can do any combination you like. It was a bit too sweet for me, but they make their own syrups from real fruit and they’re really good. I also tried some of a mango strawberry banana pineapple smoothie ($ 6 for large, $ 5 for regular). It was pretty amazing. They are also willing to do combinations that are not on the menu for the smoothies. The owner even gave us all a sample of his fruit cocktail invention, which is orange juice with a whole bunch of different cut up fruit in it. It was really tasty! They also do large batches if you’re having a party or something.
The owner was super friendly. His kids work with him and the place has been in his family for generations. You can tell he’s passionate about his business and that goes a long way.

I came to get a chamango, and the lady did not mention that they were out of the main ingredient, which is mango, so she played me and put cucumber instead of mangoes in my drink, it was after I handed her the cash that she told me they were out of mangoes. I feel cheated.

Always get the vapiro (beets, celery, etc) and the chamango. Great customer service. EVERYTHING IS FRESH AND AFFORDABLE.

Thanks to fellow Unilocaler Kimberly N for bringing this place to my attention! I tried the chamango drink (see other Unilocalers’ pics) and it did not disappoint. I think it’s like a raspado (I’m not an expert) and it was so beautifully made by the sweet gal behind the counter. Red, orange, yellow… so pretty! I don’t even know the ingredients that went into making this drink, but it was a little sweet, sour, and spicy. Very refreshing!
When the gentleman at the cash register rang me up and found out that I had driven a bit to get there, he told me to choose any of their pre-​made drinks on the house! I chose the green drink because other Unilocalers have also raved about it. I’m not the healthiest of eaters and I never would have bought something green to drink, but it’s free so let me try this. To my surprise, it was pretty tasty!
I will definitely return because the taste of the chamango is calling to me. The hospitality of the owner is even more important to me. I still have to try all their other smoothies and healthy drinks recommended by others, but the chamango is a definite winner!

I was really excited to come here and get my green machine. They have the drinks pre-​made and waiting in the fridge. They also have a lot of fresh delicious fruit. I needed some ripe fruit and the lady worker there went and picked out the ripest fruit for me and all I had to do was wait there and pay. I like that kind of customer service. It was my first time here, but I believe it is a first of many. After reading these reviews, it seems I need to try their chamango. Sounds like I have a to do list for the rest of this week: Go back to this place and try more juices. :)

Well for growing up in LA it’s hard to find good little spots for fresh cut fruits with chili or great sandwiches and this is it! They have mixed nuts homemade and seasoned and candied pecans! Along with fresh fruit you can just buy. This place is a little building what sneaks up on u but a little diamond in the rough!
