Smiles of Las Colinas

I went to Smiles of Las Colinas for a tooth that was painful. This was an emergency situation and all I needed that day was treatment of the one tooth.
They insisted on doing X-​rays of my entire mouth. I agreed, but it did not work out as their machine kept stopping before it completely went around my head. Finally they said they would just X-​ray the bad tooth.
The dentist said I needed a root canal and a crown. I asked if we could just fill it as I could not afford a root canal and crown as they said it would be over $ 3,000. The dentist said no, it could not be filled, it had to have a root canal and crown.
They agreed to let me pay the root canal that day and pay for the crown when it was installed. Then they did not want to do the work because they said my blood pressure was up. I had to lie in the dental chair for over an hour to let my blood pressure decrease. Finally, they reluctantly did the root canal and took the impression for the crown.
I went back a week later and the crown did not fit, so I had to do the messy impression again. A week later I went back and even though the crown did not fit perfectly, they did some «adjustments» on it to make it fit.
I still have pain in that tooth from time to time and the crown has never fit correctly.
I will never go back to these people. They have no idea how to do dental work and are rude and unprofessional.

I find it very odd that all of the negative reviews seem to be from women. I had a different Dentist for years but the business was sold and the new dentist seemed like a rich, pretty used car salesman. That office was unable to do most of the normal things any other destist off could do at their location. Almost everything was a referral. I went to Dr Z with an emergency situation my old dentist would not do. Dr. Z removed the tooth the pain when away immediately and I have been going back ever since. I love SMILES and all the staff. My name is Kerry but do not let that fool you. I am a male!

I saw Dr. Dyer on my first visit. I had several questions & he ended up telling me that if i didn’t like what he was saying, i should go somewhere else! WOW! Terrible people skills! DO NOT go here for any dental work! He was rude & even yelling at me!

I’ve been on the search for a dentist in dallas since I moved here. When I stepped into this office I thought I had found the place. It’s a beautiful office which makes a great first impression. But please — do not be fooled.
The lady at the front had me fill out a form as I was a new patient — very standard. However, it included asking for very personal information such as my SSN, Bank information, Credit Card and credit card number! I did not fill out all of this as I did not think it was necessary and good thing. When I gave the form back to the front desk, she just left it on the front counter where anybody could see it. Another thing that bugged me was that when I was sitting in the dentist chair — they brought up their schedule on the screen right in front of me, and it had other patient’s personal information all over the screen! If I had wanted to — I could copy down everyone’s email, phone number, and mailing address. Not very great on privacy if you ask me…
In the beginning, everybody was so nice. They are friendly and definitely work to put you at ease. About 1 ½ hours into my appointment, we had just completed x-​rays only and I was supposed to get a cleaning as well. This seemed like a very, very long time to get things done. At this point, they informed me that I had gum disease and 4 cavities. I asked them a lot of questions which they answered in a very «textbook» way. I figured I might have issues with my gum — although I did not feel any sort of pain — and wanted to keep an open mind that they were telling me the truth.
I got the estimate of work from the front lady and I was astounded. I have insurance and they were quoting me $ 755 out of my pocket for the «deep cleaning» to help the gum disease and remove the hard tartar. I was also quoted over $ 500 to do the fillings on my 4 cavities. I was not prepared to fork up this amount of money at the time which I nicely informed them, but thanked them for all the information. The hygienist and front lady were with me and they both looked blankly at me for an awkward second — as if what I said was completely ridiculous. The front lady said «I will speak with the doctor» and left and the hygienist, who was very nice at first, began ignoring me and was not as friendly anymore.
The doctor came in and was very nice about it, offering to see if we can find a discount or have a payment plan. I mentioned again that I just wasn’t prepared to pay this today and would like to just schedule this work at a later time, but would like to just get the normal cleaning done as planned today. The doctor then informed me that she would be performing «malpractice» on her standards if she did the normal cleaning on me instead of the deep cleaning. I thought this was ridiculous as it’s my decision and they wouldn’t even do the work on me that I had asked for just because I did not want to pay $ 755 on that day. They then had me watch a video about gum disease — which was informational but thinking back, it was more like a scare tactic to get me to foot the money.
The hygienist quickly came over after the video was done and pretty much kicked me out of the chair/​office with a «You’re done for today» in a non-​friendly tone. I was just surprised because they were so nice before, but now were very short and did not even want to deal with me. I left with a bad impression as their friendliness had turned sour and there was no reason for that at all. All in all, my visit was TWO HOURS long and all I got done was get my x-​rays taken.
After that, I went to another dentist (Dental Concepts in the same shopping center) and they were fantastic. They informed me my gums were fine (they did the same test as Smiles did) and I only had 3 cavities in which my quote was only $ 150 to complete the fillings. Are you kidding me?! I did not need a deep cleaning to remove the hard tartar as Dr. Patel at Dental Concepts removed it during my regular cleaning. It was a much better experience and i highly recommend them.
Also — getting my x-​rays from Smiles was a pain. I emailed them and never received a response so I called and had to wait 7 days for the x-​rays to be released. I called again a week later in which I was informed they were emailed to me, which never came. Called again the following day where they emailed them to me again, but they never came. After each of these conversations too, they would abruptly hang up on me with a short «goodbye» and I actually had to call them back to ask another question about payment. Horrible. Finally, I had to stop in to pick up my x-​rays as the email was not working. The lady at the front I had not worked with before and she was very nice, but I saw two of the ladies I had seen during my prior visit and they turned away from me and were not friendly! What a change.
I will definitely not recommend this office. I tried to keep an open mind but in the end, their prices are way too high, their diagnosis extreme and their attitude poor.
