I still remember seeing Empanda Armada in the parking lot and being so excited to try it! I’m all about food trucks! The employee who took my order was very helpful and friendly, my food came out quickly, and the empanada’s I tried were great! However, I felt they were just a little dry. Possibly a sauce of some sort to accompany them would be great! Other than that they were awesome!

My wife is from Argentina, so after travelling to Buenos Aires 5+ times have tried a few empanadas. Empanada Armada has some very good empanadas by Argentine standards. The crust is very flaky and the fillings are great. I really like that the type of empanada is stamped on the crust. Back in Argentina they have different folds and patterns that are supposed to tell you what it is but is sometimes confusing.

Empanada Armada is incredible. The service is as good as it gets, and the empanadas themselves are extremely tasty. Texans are in for a treat and should hunt this truck down in order to taste some excellent, authentic empanadas.

Tasty! Found them at the White Rock local market today, and so glad I did. Empanadas are an ingenious concept for a food truck; since they don’t have to be made to order, your food is ready INSTANTLY, which is fantastic when you’re hungry. Each empanada is $ 3, so the price is right. Even better, they have a deal where you can get 3 empanadas, chips, and a drink for $ 9, which is what I did. The menu is simple: beef, chicken, spinach, bbq pulled pork, or buffalo chicken. I tried a beef, spinach, and bbq pork, and all were flavorful. The crust was perfect. Each one had a unique flavor profile. My favorite was the beef; least was the bbq pulled pork(it was still good, just not the best). If you like empanadas, hunt these guys down.

We’re really fortunate here in Dallas to have such a strong and rapidly expanding food truck scene, and in 2013 we have some new kids on the block. I’ve been tracking Empanada Armada here for the past few weeks, hoping more than anything that they could take me back to the foodie glory days that came in the form of my time in Buenos Aires. Finally, the day arrived, and I opted to give it a go. Star 1: How was the service and atmosphere? I mean, it’s a food truck, so it’s really not as though you’re kicking back in an authentic Argentine atmosphere. However, service is friendly, and with the empanadas being pre-made, it’s lightning fast as well. I’m always at a loss as to what to do when I’m just sitting in front of a food truck waiting for my food, and Empanada Armada saved me the awkwardness. Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? Shockingly, the Armada actually has a competitor in the area in the form of Irving’s Empa Mundo( ), so it’s surprising but I can actually have a benchmark here. Empanada Armada prices their savory goodness at $ 2.50 per, which, coincidently, is exactly the same as Empa Mundo. As an added bonus, the Armada brings to the equation emps that are just a tad bit bigger than Mundo’s: Empanada Armada: Empa Mundo: Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? Empanada Armada is as opposite as you can get when it comes to a comparison with Empa Mundo, and that’s not a bad thing one bit. First off, while Empa Mundo fries their empanadas, EA goes for the flaky baked approach(both are authentic depending on your preference), which I very much prefer. Additionally, while EM has a selection that’s almost too ambitious(goat cheese and fancy ham? why?), EA keeps it as simple as possible by simply offering Beef, Chicken, Ham and Cheese and Spinach. I opted for one of each(no spinach here), and the chicken stood out as my favorite(Ham and Cheese was a bit weak on the filling). The best I’ve ever had? No, but very, very good, and better than EM in my opinion. Single Star Granted. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? You know, there are only two empanada joints in this town of ours, and Empanada Armada is my preferred venue now. I’d gladly come here every day to satisfy my craving, and look forward to an expanded selection! Star Granted.
