I’ve actually been going to this annual festival since it started(in 2007 I believe). I’ve never competed in Dragon Boating but it’s always fun to watch. There are a lot of food booths and things for kids, rows of vendors selling toys and fake Hello Kitty. The first year there was a stand that sold zongzi but I haven’t seen it since(I think it’s because each year I wake up later and later… they sell out quickly). There is a table for children though doing demonstrations on how to create dumplings. There is also a stage in the middle that holds cultural performances varying from Chinese, Indian, to even Hawaiian. It’s a similar lineup to the performances at WorldFest in Addison. One of the best things about this festival is the kite flying. I tried flying a kite once and got owned by some 6 year old kid. Nothing like some maniac running down the field with a kite dragging behind her… So instead I just sit and watch, patiently waiting for the giant octopus kite to hit the sky.
