I am retiring today and my employer brought in a mango cake from Viktor Bene’s Bakery. Everyone in the office raved about it. Very light, awesome creamy filling with mango purée on top and a very rich dark chocolate around the outside. Highly recommend it!

The bakery is located in Gelson’s, which means it’s clearly going to be pricey. However, the quality doesn’t match the cost. I have purchased a few items here. Most recently I purchased a mini Carrot cupcake for my sons to share. I paid $ 2.25. The cupcake was very dense and dry. It was a little hard as well, which makes me wonder how long it had actually been sitting in the pastry case. The cream cheese frosting was tasty, but a bit too sweet.
The two stars are for the customer service. The employees at the counter are generally helpful, courteous, and efficient.
I also inquired about the cost of a small sheet cake for a shower I’m throwing soon. The basic iced sheet cake with no decoration feeds 15 people and starts at $ 60. Really?!
I’d pass on this place and check out 7 layer bakery, 85 c, or whole foods.

Very Bad Customer Service!
Posted Price on Cake was different when boxed and given to me to take to front counter. No professional response to adjust the price to the price tag on the front of the cake. The counter person simply turned her back and continued counting her drawer since they were closing in 20 minutes. Wow, never going back there again.

I thoroughly enjoy the Alligator coffee cake from Viktor Bene. Even though it’s pre-​boxed and not served from the window display of goodies, it still deserves praise. I hear the other locations may be different and that the square footage of the bakeries in the other locations may have a wider selection.
The Viktor Bene bakery in Irvine is quite small, inside Gelson’s Markets, an upscale supermarket reminiscent of Vons and Whole Foods. Viktor Bene is a great bakery. May want to try a different location next time for a different experience, but in the mean time it’s the closest one to San Diego.

My favorite bakery! My family and I have been coming here for years for every birthday, anniversary, celebration event. The cakes are very well made and delicious. My sister even had her wedding cake done here, which I plan on doing the same. However, I haven’t decided if I should order the cake from this location, or from one of their main LA bakeries. I read Jamie’s review below me, and one time I did order an individual cake slice that tasted dried out and a day old. I do recommend buying their fresh, whole cakes which they have plenty of in various sizes.

So I forgot to add this in.. . I called the bakery right after this happened to speak to a manager and the jerk said to me «I don’t know what you want me to do about it» I then told him «Uh try your pastries and when you get sick since they’re stale maybe you won’t sell them anymore» I went into Gelson’s the other day and I was disgusted as some of the pastries even looked old. Glad I’m going to good ol’ French’s still for my sweets. Gelsons I still have a bad taste in my mouth (and it’s not your black forest cake) and your manager who picked up the phone should be ashamed of himself.
