History

Established in 1986.

Since 1986, Sonnet Technologies has provided computer hardware upgrade solutions for consumers and professionals. Sonnet’s first product was a fonts-​based upgrade card for Apple® LaserWriter® printers that allowed the burgeoning computer desktop publishing market to capitalize on hardware-​based Postscript® technology.

In the 1990s, Sonnet expanded into proccessor and cache card upgrades for Macintosh® desktop computers ranging from Power Mac®, Quadra®, Centris® and Mac® II series of professional computers to consumer-​based LC, Performa® and compact Mac computers. In addition, Sonnet found innovative upgrade solutions for PowerBooks®, iMacs®, Mac-​based clones, and Mac computers not considered possible to upgrade via a standard processor upgrade slot.

In the 2000s, Sonnet transitioned into new markets with pro storage solutions, unique media readers, a full line of Thunderbolt™ expansion and connectivity products, and a diverse range of performance extending desktop and notebook cards.
