Kumon Math and Reading Center of Irvine-south

We have been sending our two kids — ages 6 and 8 — at this Kumon location for the past four years.
From the academic standpoint, our kids have excelled in math beyond their potential, thanks to its curriculum, great teachers and the dedication and competence of Mrs. Choi and Ms. Michelle. The staff knows each and every student by their names and understand their strengths and weaknesses. The staff also tailor the in-​class curriculum and homework based on each student’s needs and conduct a regular assessment throughout the year to monitor student’s progress.
And from the personal standpoint, we consider Mrs. Choi and Ms. Michelle not only as our children’s education advisors but also as our friends who truly care about our children’s future.
We highly recommend this place!

This center is gorgeously remodeled and in a convenient first floor location in the same plaza as Trader Joe’s! Once saw Kobe Bryant bring his daughters here (long live The Mamba). More importantly though, this Kumon does truly cater to students and their parents to achieve their highest academic potential – you get an amazing result if you just do what they say and stick with it. It’s family-​owned and operated by dynamic duo Michelle and Janie, same owners and instructors at the other Irvine location on Barranca in Woodbridge! They are awesome because they have so much combined experience and know exactly how to tailor to each student’s level and unique ability. Very highly recommend!

We haven’t worked with this Kumon center for very long, but I just can’t say enough good things about them.
My son is one month shy of three, and he absolutely adores Miss Michelle. Everything from the initial assessment to homework given to do at home has been an organized smooth process. From a management perspective, you can tell they know what they are doing.
In his sessions, my son has learned to sit (mostly) still with other students his age, develop control of his fine motor skills (even his pre-​school has commented on how good they are in comparison with his peers), and how to associate words and meanings. It’s truly astonishing how much a three year old is capable of!
The teachers are kind, patient, and at the same time very strict — demanding focus and attention from my son. I remember after his first «class» (all of fifteen minutes!), my son put his head down on the table and said «I’m tired. I need to rest» haha. His stamina has since improved :)
I also felt they did a good job of coaching ME on how to «help» my son with his homework at home. There were a lot of tips and tricks on how to make my son an independent «student» from using time to differentiate «homework time» and «playtime» at home to helping him make a habit of holding his own paper with his left hand so that he can circle words without the paper moving. Just little things that as a mom I would naturally help him with and not think of encouraging him to do on his own.
I can’t compare this center with any of the other Kumon centers in Irvine as I haven’t been to them, but I couldn’t be happier with with service and results we have gotten here. It is well worth my money and my son’s time. We will be here for a long while. :)

Tbh its just like other kumon place, but Janie and Michelle make this place special.
They know each of their students’ names and very accommodating on their student need.
